HAPPY PRE-THANKSGIVING!! We'll be on vacation tomorrow, but in the spirit of giving thanks - and more importantly inhaling carbohydrates with reckless abandon - we give you a food-themed metal Kirby ReMix from newcomer GaMetal:

"Hello, and thank you for taking the time to review my submission amongst the several others I'm sure you receive daily. My name is Jonny Atma and I have a VGM project called GaMetal that I've been doing for about 5 years now, but I feel like my quality hasn't been up to par until recently, so now I'm giving OCR my first shot!

I took a trip back 5 years and revisited one of my first game covers, the almighty "Gourmet Race." The old GaMetal version of this song was a lot simpler compared to this new and improved version, and it also sounded pretty bad... you know, the whole compression thing. Despite it being bad, it was one of my most popular 2009 songs alongside Pokémon RBY Trainer Battle.

Since my return last year, I've been redoing some songs I did before, and pretty much every time I do, I get a few people asking me to redo "Gourmet Race." It's been 3 songs since my last remake, and I had "Gourmet Race" stuck in my head one day, so I decided it was time. I kept a lot of the rhythm, mainly in the beginning minute or so, similar to my old remix. I did some different stuff with the lead (like the fast thing around 0:30) to make it sound more exciting. The first major change comes at about the 1-minute mark, where we have a quick synth breakdown. This was inspired a lot by the Brawl version. The next major change is a guitar solo! I didn't have one in my old version, a lot of my old songs didn't have solos, period...Thanks again for reviewing my submission!"

First off, mad props to Jonny & all the YouTube-centric VGM arrangers out there; it's not always work that makes sense for OCR, but it's great that there's now so many amazingly talented people doing great things & paying tribute to VGM. This is of course the same source tune that the OverClocked Plaid Muffins arranged with a legendary ska vocal version back in 2011, but it DOES lend itself well to metal, too. The artist has done a great job polishing & expanding on his original arrangement and turning it into something that absolutely makes sense on OCR. Larry writes:

"Oh snap, a wild Jonny appears! I've definitely heard of GaMetal years ago on the YouTubes, so I'm glad he finally made his way over here with a submission. [(ATTN YouTubers: welcome! We don't bite. :-)] Onto Jonny's arrangement, "Gourmet Race" certainly lends itself well to super-intense renditions. This keeps the original's classic structure intact while seasoning it with live geetar and some of the most frenetic percussion I've ever heard. There were times where the machine-gun-style drums were ZOMG TOO AGRO for me, and (more importantly/relevantly) crowding out other elements, but it was reasonably handled in the big picture, so I won't grandpa too much. Nice soloing section at 2:24 to keep the piece fresh and keep the second half feeling powerful without dragging out. What better way to stuff both your ears and your face than with GaMetal's take on the pink puffball's music leading into Thanksgiving! :-)"

Well said; for everyone out there celebrating the holiday, get hyped, get amped, and get HONGRY!! For everyone else, well, it's STILL a badass metal Kirby mix, so enjoy!!

This one is one of my fav Kirby mixes on OCR. You can really feel the power in the performance -- reminds me a lot of Powerglove's stuff, which I love too. It's a little repetitive during some parts, but who cares? :D The guitar work is excellent and really tight. Production is neat, even if the brass samples sounded totally fake lol Keep 'em coming, man. \m/

A full-on metal take of Gourmet Race with GaMetal at the helm is nothing short of an absolute treat for fans of both the music and ReMixer (which I am :)!! ). Amazing soloing and well thought out arrangement that gives me a much needed dose of the metal I've been needing lately. Welcome to OCR GaMetal, hope to see more of your work make it here.

This has shades of Machinae Supremacy in it to me. Maybe crossed with some In Flames. I dunno. I really love it! I only stopped headbanging to write this post. :nicework::-D

Also, definitely added you to my subscription list. Between you, LittleV, FamilyJules, and Erock, I feel like I'm well up on my Youtube metal shenanigans. :-D

Wow, I thought for a while here that this wasn't going to cut it! It's an honor to finally be amongst the many talented artists here on OCRemix.

For those that aren't familiar with come check out my Youtube channel (youtube.com/JonnyAtma) sometime and you can hear all my latest stuff! I'll be trying to submit some more music on here too, but I'll have a lot of catching up to do (assuming they're good enough )!

Thanks again to djpretzel and everyone else involved, hope you enjoy the song! :

Nicely done! I don't usually care for straight up metal (kind of bores into my brain) but I can't say no to a guitar solo like this. Besides, the sound is crisp and in control, which is no mean feat.

This is awesome, like what it'd sound like if Iced Earth remixed Kirby. Nice production and pretty awesome lead guitars as well. I dig the rhythm tones a lot. :-) HOORAY for blastbeats! It's time for a blast-feast! *badpun*
