Apex 2015 is imminent, so it's time for another reminder of what that means & why you should GET HYPE, with another track off last year's Apex 2014 album! This time we've got Amphibious with an SSB jazz/chillout jam that's dressed up to the nines, featuring creamy electric piano, funky elec. guitar parts, and a rock solid beat:

"Originally, I was trying to think of some kind of upbeat song I could make out of the "Metal Battle" theme, but nothing was really coming to me. DarkeSword said that a chillout track could work for the album, as they had one on the previous Apex album that worked out. I decided to try it, and ideas came to me a lot quicker!

It's mostly a mix of the "Bonus Stage" theme, with some jazzy chords and groovy beats going on, but I threw in a bit of the "Character Sel." theme to act as a sort of bridge, while restating the main motif overtop of it to make it all kind of flow together logically. Overall, I was pretty happy with how the vibe on this one turned out, so hopefully you all enjoy too!"

The vibe, it is smoove. Chord modulations up & down add some variation and also prevent things from getting TOO chill (to the point of sameyness), plus the production is air tight, the EPs glisten in the morning dew and slide across the stereo spectrum with the greatest of ease, and it's hard not to just tap them toes, bob that head, and get lost in it. Larry writes:

"The original "Bonus Game" tune is already a pretty mellow affair compared with the more upbeat, grandiose Smash themes when you're actually fighting. That said, Jordan - quickly emerging as a deity of smoove in the community - slowed the tempo down even further and proceeded to make this theme even more relaxed. Nice use of the character sel. theme at 1:37, combining it with a variation of the lead source from 1:55-2:14. The final section at 2:14 retread what came before, so I would have liked some extra writing touches for some subtle differences, but the overall interpretation was substantial enough to overcome that issue. Amphibious proves that even at a major fighting game tournament like Apex, we really don't have to fight. It's better to chill. :-)"

Better to be peaceful Zen then flowchart Ken. Not that I'd know :) A somewhat shorter piece that DOES do some copypasta towards the end, this is nevertheless a delicious, rock solid, & very classy arrangement, offering a mellow and decidedly chill addition to last year's Apex album!

I'm very fond of the original SSB's sparse, chill music it employed for menus and extra modes. They don't often get the full ReMix treatment, so I'm happy as can be to hear this! Those old tunes were just begging for some mild jazz to bring them back into the spotlight

Smooth music with a bit of a pulse. Now that's my kind of chill. I think this is the kind of chill that is more likely to make you feel cool than relax you enough for a nap, but either way, this is the perfect kind of easy-going ReMix for the very start of a wind-down. So nice and smooth, love it.

First off, the title is perfect for this song. Secondly, it's refreshing to hear a Break The Targets/Board The Platforms.since we haven't heard it in any of the other Smash games. I like how you took that and blended it with the Character Select Screen theme.

I like it. I love it. And I think I want some more of it.
