What happened when Alonzo left the Heat? Nope... newcomer 744 (Ben Brownlee) sends us an icy-beautiful ambient/orchestral arrangement of "Midna's Lament" that employs harp, piano, bells, and a larger symphonic accompaniment that grows & extends with the piece, not unlike ice crystals forming & spreading outward:

"This is an arrangement of the theme "Midna's Lament" or "Midna in Distress" and is an embellishment of a central motif from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, for Nintendo Wii or GameCube. It's my favorite theme from a game that mostly used ambiance, aside from a somewhat strange-sounding MIDI soundtrack; it adds a lot of tension to the part of the game in which it plays. This arrangement more or less tries to embrace that tension."

I felt like there were veins of hope present which made this less of a lament & offered up some comfort, but the overall aesthetic is definitely Arctic, with deliberate pacing and a chill, crisp wind in the air. Chimpazilla writes

"Conservative take on the source, yet transformative enough. I love the icy feel. Reverb is quite heavy, but it is fitting."

Of the revised version that Ben sent us, Liontamer adds:

"Yeah, I'm actually surprised by how this stands apart from the source's sound, because after the first minute or so, I wasn't convinced I'd approve this. But due to the new instrumentation, along with the key change and some layering of certain lines, this went well in the right direction The original orchestration added in from 2:40-3:18 was also a very nice touch and combined seamlessly with the source tune."

This reminded me of RebeccaETripp's work, which is strong praise; excellent & delicate atmosphere and nice use of chromatic percussion & harp against a softer orchestral palette. Striking, evocative debut from 744 - a name that makes me think of CHMOD, and now a beautiful Zelda ReMix, too!

This is just as good as your DKC one! You've got the kind of style of classic British game composers like David Wise and Russell Shaw, this remix of Midna's Lament feels like a mashup of those two guys coming together to make a Zelda soundtrack and I love it.
