Our first ReMix of Tee Lopes' amazing soundtrack to Sonic Mania comes in the form of high-energy, blistering metal from PirateCrab (Daniel Woodyer):
"Beep boop, I'm back with a metal remix of "Ruby Illusions," the (not quite) final boss stage in Sonic Mania! I learnt it once for a bit of fun to send to a mate, but then quickly realized that this would actually be an incredible tune to turn into a metal track."
It's only 2'37", but given the breakneck tempo & relentless mojo it packs a lot of punch into that duration. Liontamer writes:
"Noting that the source tune also incorporates a little bit of Sonic 3 boss music, you've got to give props to Tee Lopes, who did a great job channeling the style of classic Sonic music while doing his own thing for the Sonic Mania soundtrack. Daniel's got a rocked-out cover that's ups the energy level even further, particularly by altering the drum writing and going for heavier instrumentation. While I would have liked more melodic interpretation for this arrangement, after 1:57, Daniel also gets a little more additive with some wailing part-writing for the closing section. It's a short but sweet cover, so I hope we hear more from PirateCrab in tackling this soundtrack, another instant classic in today's VGM! :-)"
Not much else to say; I agree that Daniel could have thrown a melodic permutation in there & fleshed it out a bit more, and I would have preferred a BANG ending to a fade, but otherwise this is epic, intense, & dramatic stuff, paying well-crafted homage to a modern VGM OST which in turn pays well-crafted homage to the Sonic games of yore. Enjoy!

This may be the most meta mix on the site. Not my fave Sonic mix but it's still good.
