More brilliance from Songs of the Sirens: Link's Awakening ReMixed as Yoann Turpin makes a featured-mix debut with a genre-flipping, continent-hopping folk-funk-fusion jam that starts quirky & double-reedy, gets a little funkier & hand-percussionier, then continues travelling to lands jazz & beyond, stopping by the near east too:

"I wanted to picture both sides of the Animal Village: their solemn side, and their impish side!"

Check and check, though I think there are a few more sides packed in, for good measure. Yoann's had some excellent album tracks in the past, so it's great to finally be featuring one! Album co-director WillRock writes:

"I'm going to be quite frank -- I'm not a huge fan of the "Animal Village" source tune. It always felt a bit like a 15-second throwaway of the overworld theme that got rather monotonous quite fast.

However, saying Yoann Turpin knocked this one out of the park isn't doing it justice -- he knocked it straight to the moon. He managed to keep the mischievous and playful feel of the original but keeps it from getting boring by having it constantly evolve. It goes from playful to epic to funky in a flash, with Celtic influences sprinkled about that remind of Wind Waker, and even finds time to throw in some Egyptian-sounding runs before going into a jazzy piano solo.

This takes "Animal Village" to so many places, all in the span of 3 minutes, while staying cohesive and keeping a natural flow to the arrangement. I'm not sure you could take a 15-second source and do much more with it. Bravo."

Literally everything Will said: seconded. In just 3'27" this is some impressive work, with complementary textures, spaces, & influences combining seamlessly into a compelling global stew, elevated by nuanced part-writing full of character & grace. That's on top of being a joy to listen to, with no musical punches pulled & an unfettered approach to instrumentation. My type of jam; superb work from Yoann & a fantastic addition to the album and the site!

This was exceptionally well made! I really liekd the strings that came in at 1:04, so warm and inviting! This was great overall, good job!

I love so many little touches here, but I especially love the tape drag Egyptian strings towards the end. I don't think I've heard such a meta-usage of strings like that...ever?

This is phenomenal! So many twists and turns! It emanates the skillset of Jake Kaufman while bringing together styles not unlike Sam Dillard's and Schnabubula!
