  3. Hello, I'm sharing a wip for a remix of Tomorrow and Tomorrow after receiving live feedback on the OCremix discord. The goal was to mimic the style of Imagine Dragons (ie Warriors) Source from 0:00 - 1:05 of and below is a earlier wip to compare changes I've made (for better or worse)
  4. Gotta say, this has a lot of inspirational moments. You guys definitely hooked me with the beginning given my uhh tendencies for vocals haha. But what I enjoy the most is the rhythmic elements have a lot of flavor to them. They often given the ear not just new patterns, but new textures to enjoy as well. Nice track guys! Even though I've never played a Metroid game or know any of the music, this felt familiar in the best of ways.
  5. I think the change in genres could work - but you'd need to add space for the transition. I have to agree with the other comments here though - would love to see more work from you, especially in that first genre (but I'm biased towards EDM haa haa).
  6. Hey there, I am taking a guess that this is more a 1:1 cover of the sources Theme of Aya / Eve's Theme, in combination? I will say, I do like some of your new instrument choices, but I am...unsure if this is presented for feedback or as a possibility to submit to OCR? If it is for the latter rather than the former, the unfortunate thing is, because a lot of this sounds like an 'upgrade' to the sources, and not a cover or a remix, it would not be eligible. Your picking of the new instruments is on-point, but because you're using straight rips from the source, and this is not pure MIDI and sampling to make your own spin on the sources, it would get rejected in Panel. I would suggest--nay, encourage--you to explore different options in making these covers more expansive, and then treading into absolutely new territory with a remix. Firstly, in making a 1:1 cover, I would stick to a single source, because this Parasite Eve one is layering two sources together, and notes are clashing (as in, hitting sour notes and sounding dissonant throughout). Some of it is the instrument choices playing together, and some of it is simply that the two sources don't match in key. So I think it's in your best interest, especially if you're just starting out in making music, to use ONE source, and play around with it. Add chords, take away elements, play with SOLELY the MIDI of the piece, and change every instrument, and see what shakes loose. :) It'd do you a lot of good, as well as sharing your journey with others in a workshop. Those are my suggestions, but this is a great starting point and a good stepping stone.
  7. I really like the song and the mix. The only critique I'd have (which isn't much) is that there is a midrange where the frequencies are just a little low or there isn't a lot of instrumentation (maybe over-filtered bass and percussion to give room for synths?) It's just slightly noticeable but not huge. I think overall your dnb music is fabulous and I really hope you do more vgm remixes. We need more dnb imo and you have a really good knack for it.
  8. Agreed that the kick's way too loud and distorting the track. Will echo Hemo's comments that this is a fun cover, it just doesn't present much difference with the original song, so there's very little to distinguish it as a creative interpretation of it, at least from the lens of OCR's arrangement standards. Feels more like a traditional remix, so maybe it samples the original's chippy-style instrumentation, I'm not sure. I did enjoy the other instrumentation surrounding the chip though, so this is a successful cover aside from those kicks!
  9. Opens up sparsely with the piano to set the stage for the strings at :24. I like the tone of these samples to start. Let's see if this branches off anywhere interesting. The feeling's a bit stilted over time, but still retaining my interest about 1:15 in, and then things subtly pivot. Not sure if some of the quiet vox padding is slightly & briefly off-key in places, but it could have just been my ears playing tricks on me. Things drop off some at 1:44, and this section's not a bad idea in principle, but it didn't need to go on until 2:14, it could have dropped a few bars and gotten back to the melody more quickly. At 2:14, we get another iteration of the source melody and at this point, the stilted sequencing/timing of the leads and piano was standing out more and I was wanting the arrangement to have more dynamic contrast and more humanization. Speak of the devil, there's an attempt to vary up the presentation with some kicks at 3:39. The beats were too boomy, slightly off-time and had 0 synergy with the other instrumentation, so I was glad they didn't last too long. Pretty anti-climactic end to that theme though, unfortunately. 4:06 changed over to "Theme of Aya". Everything's still very robotic-sounding; somewhat understandable given the source material, but there's more depth to the sounds in the original, whereas these lead sounds are very thin/tinny and the beats are very metronome-like. Be sure to watch the ending cutting off abruptly. There's room to achieve a richer texture with your instrumentation; cool source tune choices, regardless, and I liked hearing your rendition. Lots of room for growth and development, I hope you keep at it!
  10. Hey there peshti! The sound design and production are top-notch for your take on the track. The arrangement is very close to the source, with one A-B transition cut out and several voices removed (mostly trumpet and flute/piccolo lines). Like Liontamer, I would kill to hear some more transformative additions to the material from you on this one. Keep it up!
  11. Jesus Christ...this does hit hard, and I love it. ♥ Sounds like something that would directly get placed in the Remakes (and feels like it should've!) It's very conservative and could be considered a 1:1 cover, but if you decide it at any time, I think this could definitely get through a submissions here on OCR. :) Would need a bit more of "you" put into it, like maybe an additional harmony line, or progression chords, and a solid ending, but what you've got here is hidden gold and I think if you do work on these talents you've got already, you can apply this to other sources and do something rad with them. I very much look forward to hearing more of these covers from you. :D If you need some help thinking up more to incorporate into this to make it OCR-applicable, just hit us up here or on the Discord. Pretty sure this one is a keeper, though, and TBF, won't need much added to it to make it, IMO. :3
  12. Hi Peshti! This is coming along nicely! The change to the melodic tags works really well - like Larry, I would love to hear a more complete resolution to it, perhaps with some more build after 1:45? Looking forward to more!
  13. This mix is such a jam. Production-wise, I want some more low-mids in the bass, but I don't think it's a dealbreaker. I'll join the chorus of folks hoping this is OCR-worthy; that said, I think the source is a licensed track from outside the game.
  14. There's definitely potential, just from an OC ReMix arrangement standards lens, to be more interpretive with the treatment of the composition. That said, from a sound design perspective, this already personalizes the theme quite nicely, even if we're looking for additional aspects of arrangement. Too bad the track also has no real resolution; there's definitely more runway available to iterate on the theme further, perhaps get more interpretive with a second verse. Cool sound upgrade, peshti!
  15. Really hoping this one is eligible for OCR. Loving the Jungle/Breakbeat vibes, and it worked so well with the source material. ♥ Keep up the good work, and good luck on it getting through if you decide to submit it. :D
  16. Not sure if the source tune is ineligible for OC ReMix due to being a licensed track not written for the game; would be a shame if so. Super classy source tune, so let's see what's up with this treatment. Breakbeats! Interesting giving the brass a more muted sound and leaning more on the breakbeats and piano, but everything's balanced well, IMO, so none of that observation's a complaint. Interesting to build around just one or two melodic segments, but there's enough textural dynamics to retain my interest. I can see some saying 5 minutes is too long and that it should change up more or explore other areas of the theme. To me, this could use some further variations, however, the interpretation of the theme's already substantive enough. Cool approach, and always love to hear the Rukunetsu spices in play!
  17. I like this one a lot! It reminds me of the classic jungle d&b tracks that you don't hear too much in videogame OSTs anymore. I've really no critiques, it's a good jam!
  18. Hi Rukunetsu! Gonna drop the source of the track here for reference later. This is some slick D&B on this track! The vibe is on lock right from the get-go and every shift just maintains it. The pitch bends on the source melody are a great touch.
  19. I love the piece, if I heard it out of context I would think it's official OST. I would have to agree that it's pretty conservative and I would prefer to hear more of the drums you have at the end, but with that said, I still love the dark ambience you've created along with a pleasantly faithful recreation of the original.
  20. Hey there! Just had a listen to this, and I would definitely say I enjoyed it. Love the fact this is a faithful re-imagining of the original, whilst still putting a bit of your own twist onto it (like the swirly verbs echoing the violin/strings, heavy industrial/dark orchestral drums towards the end starting ~3:15, and the plucky acoustic guitar @ 2:00). The harp and piano combination is beautiful, as well. As a 1:1 cover, it does its job. If someone showed me this, and I did not know the original Ezio's Family track, I'd take this as basically either the original or an adaptation of it directly from / endorsed by Ubisoft. So from a rendition-standpoint, it's very lovely. I do ask, however, if you have more story to tell behind this or more ideas for it? Do you plan on submitting this to OCR? :) If so, you'd have to do a lot more to this to make it more your own personal take on the source, even if it's still a very conservative take more faithful to the source. If not, I'm curious as to how you ran into this source, and what compelled you to do a cover of it? :D
  21. The opening doesn't stand apart from the original much, so I'm interested to hear how it branches out; this is just viewing it from the lens of OC ReMix's arrangement standards. The female vocals have more outward power & strength compared to the original song (not better or worse, just a slightly different tone). Loved the lead strings up until 2:00; nice richness to it. Acoustic strings at 2:13 also sounded nice. Piano at 2:27 was obviously sampled, but had reasonable body to it, even if it was too obvious it wasn't real; same critique for the strings at 2:42. The dynamics are there; you could argue this should be even more dynamic, but within a relatively narrower range of contrast, it definitely does its thing, especially with the beats arriving at 3:26 for the big finish. This have a nice added level of intensity & density to distinguish it from the original. Cool stuff! IMO, go ahead and submit this, Mellow Sonic! :-) https://ocremix.org/community/submissions/
  22. Sounds like a great cover you've put together, mellowsonic! Your arrangement is almost 1:1 with the source material until a well-executed break to the bass elements at around 2:00. The build that follows works well -- love the ping-pong plucks at 2:13. The dark drums are a great touch at 3:24; I would have loved to hear them come in sooner, but part of why they're so impressive is because of how restrained the arrangement has been leading up to that point.
  23. Hi Mellow Sonic! This one's a damn good cover. I really enjoy the change-ups at 1:59 and 3:30 - interesting palette swaps and epic trap-style drums. Is this one you're working up to submit to the site or just looking for general feedback?
  24. I listened to this as part of a workshop event. It's very pretty (like the original) and faithful to the original. However it's too faithful/conservative in this case (it only seems to differentiate itself from the beautiful original around 3:20). I really like the dark and epic drums at that point and feel like this mix could've used them a lot earlier. Overall it sounds good for a cover.
  25. Arrangement: I second Liontamer's suggestion about expanding the instrumentation. The sparseness isn't selling the concept. Additionally, the drop at 0:46 seems like it was intended to change up the soundscape, but in execution, it's a big letdown because it throws all the energy you just spent the first 45 seconds or so building. It would be more effective to start with that more sparse, chordal bit and build the energy into what you've done with the intro. The false fade-out ending allows the interest curve to drop off too soon as well. Production: The lead synth at 0:16 could use a boost of about 1-2dB. Otherwise, the volume balance of your elements is well executed, at least to my ears. The solo violin at 1:45 is overexposed; if you have a higher-quality sample library you could replace it with or another texture for the lead overall, that would improve the sound greatly. It's a great relief to be able to recover some work after a crash. Keep pushing on this one, and you'll have something awesome.
  26. Heya Seth, here's my thoughts on it so far: Arrangement-wise -- right off the bat, @ ~ 00:48, the two distinct genres between your EDM and Industrial / change-up jarred me. IMO, they both work separately but not together. I think if you were to introduce your remix with the slow dance-like beat, and then rise it up to the hype / fast-paced beat, it would work better. Perhaps start with the violin, drop it for the plucky synths, and then re-introduce it later on in a sort of interlude / mixing the two genres, before the end? That might make your groove feel more fluid and coherent between the two styles employed here. Instrument/Mixing-wise -- I had no issues with your synths, really. I found them all to be nice-sounding in timbre and appropriate, even though they might be a little basic, but I am unsure if that is because these are still your stems from your original work from 2016 project, or because you had to rework/rebuild this from scratch and some of the sounds are currently placeholder. The plucky synth around 00:15 is a bit soft as well, but unsure how mixed this remix is currently...or how far in production. However, everything sounds clear, I love the vol raise and contrast you have with the additional synth playing the same melody with the plucky synth, and your bass and kick/drums are hella groovy. :) Hope this all helps. :D I look forward to hearing more work on this. :3 Good luck with it! o/
  27. Hi Seth! The 12/8 vibe for the opener is killer, though the energy drop at :48 was rough. The writing during that phase has a lot of promise by itself, it just feels disconnected from the intro and outro - is there a way to weave the melodic content from that section into the others? Or place the slower waltz bit ahead so that the change to the industrial bop feels like an upswing? Down to hear more of this!
