  1. I tried to keep this brief, but as you might know, that's not my forte. FIRST, the facts... On October 28th I informed staff that I was stepping down from my role as president/admin/owner/etc. of OverClocked ReMix, and on November 1st I also stepped down from the board of Game Music Initiative, the 501c3 non-profit organization that funds OCR. In short, I no longer feel I have the bandwidth to do these roles justice and to not only maintain, but advance, the missions of both projects. I will be working with Shariq Ansari (DarkeSword) to transition my responsibilities and ensure continuity of operations. The (excellent!) mix posted on Halloween was published without my direct involvement, subsequent posts up to the milestone #OCR04500 have been superbly executed, and I am confident that staff will continue the work necessary to operate - and evolve - OCR in my absence. I will be even less available than I have been, lately, so I apologize in advance for any lack of responsiveness. THEN, the feels... Where to even begin? It's hard to encapsulate over two decades of history; omissions are inevitable. What began as a neat side project I started in my parents' basement in 1999 snowballed into something far beyond my wildest expectations, due to the blood, sweat, tears, and unbridled, rampant creativity that thousands of you have contributed. Much of this happened before social media was even a thing and before the platforms/services we now heavily associate with the modern internet had come into being; it was a frontier, and we were on it, and we took it pretty seriously because we knew how amazing VGM is, how creative arrangements could effectively convey and explore that vast musical landscape, and how a small fandom communicating via email, IRC, & forums could collaborate to build mighty, new things. We took it seriously, often too seriously, but we ALSO played more than a few rounds of Shaq-Fu at conventions, made some truly ridiculous (but always musical!) joke mixes, and developed internal circles of lore with our own memes & jargon. NOT in strictly chronological order: there was some drama with now-legendary composer Jake Kaufman; VGMix entered the fray; we added a judges panel so it wasn't just me making stuff up; we released our first community album; the unmoderated forum birthed its own sort of... subculture; the site itself evolved to be database-driven and not just two giant dropdowns sorted by game/date; we posted mixes submitted by composers George "The Fat Man" Sanger and Jeremy Soule; we met/interviewed Hiroki Kikuta and Nobuo Uematsu; our album trailers by the incomparable José the Bronx Rican started blowing minds; we started appearing in person at Otakon, PAX, MAG, others - much love to all for having us; we bumped into Leeroy Jenkins at ROFLcon and gave him a hoodie; we started hosting from our own server and managing the technical side of things ourselves; thanks to Mr. Shael Riley (among others!), we got to remix the music for an actual Street Fighter game (!!); we released fifteen more albums... ...and then we turned ten, on December 11th of 2009. Quite a first decade, and I missed hundreds of things I shouldn't have. Hundreds of firsts, some tragic lasts, and millions of memories that can't quite be conjured by words. In 2011, we stood up for Fair Use at World’s Fair Use Day, an event organized by the non-profit Public Knowledge. In 2012, we launched our kickstarter for Final Fantasy VI: Balance and Ruin, it was taken down, we talked with Square lawyers directly for a couple hours and made the non-profit project structure clear & contractual, and we relaunched a successful kickstarter. That's not always how those things go! We launched Game Music Initiative in 2016, creating an official 501c3 charity to formalize the finances around OCR and potentially support other VGM-related projects, too. On a related note, I’ve absolutely loved seeing OC ReMixes featured by charity speedrunners Games Done Quick (GDQ) - it’s exactly the type of thing I always wanted to see, that synergy. Things do start getting a little quieter from then on out, and I think there are a ton of reasons for that, but it has been an incredible and improbable journey that I wouldn't have missed for the world. Thank you ALL for making it possible; OCR was always yours, I aspired only to stewardship of something I wanted to exist for everyone. FINALLY, the future… It's time - some would say past time - for OverClocked ReMix itself to be ReMixed. That's the point, right? Infinite permutation; endless possibility. You don't always know the day, month, or even year when your influence on something starts holding it back, or when the waning amount of time and energy you can dedicate becomes a liability. That type of certainty is often elusive; it can be a difficult diagnosis to even contemplate, and you need to look for & listen to signs. In addition to just being too much of a single point of failure for OCR (sorry, engineering mindset), the last year I've been asking myself whether it was time to let go, and I think the answer is sometimes in the asking. I have been stretched thin, like butter scraped over too much bread, and that's when you leave the Shire. Beyond representing what I genuinely believe is best for the future of OCR, I absolutely confess a personal wish to redirect reclaimed time & energy to my family and my own music. Being a husband to my wife Anna and being a father to our daughters Esther and Sarah is my meaning; I have always put them first, but now I can put them even MORE first. Esther just started learning trombone, so in a few years, expect a collab! Sarah is building her confidence learning piano & makes me proud every day. I want to write new music for them, and with them, and that requires more time than I've had. I believe the principles that have driven us - embracing all games & all styles of music, emphasizing interpretation & creativity, offering both curation and critique, and providing a non-commercial platform for those who seek it - are truly timeless, but there are many ways to honor them. I look to the new leadership/staff to galvanize, streamline, diversify, and re-imagine, within that immense space. I'll be leaving them with some ideas of my own; please let them know yours. I ask the community to support them, embrace change, provide guidance, and be patient; I believe it will be worth it! Thanks, - djpretzel

    Ahead on our way...

Well it's been about a week or two, so as the new guy in charge, I figure I ought to say something, right? When djpretzel started the process of handing over the keys to the family car, I have to admit I was pretty overwhelmed. OCR is one of the oldest and most rock-solid sites on the internet; I've often said that we're older than YouTube, older than smartphones, and older than a lot of things on the internet that, by virtue of their ubiquity, feel like institutions. OCR is an institution. There's a lot of weight in those keys. So what am I going to do with OCR now that I'm in the driver's seat? In the short term: keep driving. Our main goal is going to be continuity; that is to say, keep posting ReMixes on a regular basis. We've got a pretty big backlog of ReMixes that are ready for the spotlight, and our excellent and talented community continues to send us new music all the time, so we're not worried about running out. But there sure is a lot of behind-the-scenes process involved with getting these tracks in your ears, so bear with us while the staff--with djpretzel's help--figures all of this out. I still believe that there's a case to be made for the curation model that we've developed and adhered to for 20+ years, so we're still going to have a Judges Panel that's going to evaluate submissions, and the bar for quality that the judges look for isn't shifting in any direction. One of our goals in this changeover is to decentralize a lot of process off of one person. djpretzel did a lot on his own, and as we look at some things behind-the-scenes, maybe he didn't have to. I want OCR to be a place that can be run by a trusted group of people without a single point-of-failure. Case-in-point: literally one week after I take on leadership at OCR, my 8-month-old son brings home COVID from somewhere and gets the whole house sick, and we're having OCR staff meetings and figuring out how to post ReMixes while I'm coughing up a lung. Unbelievable. So I'm also hoping to bring more people onto the OCR staff. I've already pulled in some folks from the community, and we're going to figure out how to provide avenues for more people to help out if they're interested. Keep an eye out. Beyond that though, I've got a couple of ideas for improvements and features that have been brewing for a while that I'm going to start to pursue, leveraging some existing tech we already have and also exploring some new tech. For those that are unaware, my day job is working as a web and application developer at a major university. It's something I've been doing for 15 years and I have a pretty solid handle on building database-driven web applications. I'm going to bring a little of that experience to OCR, and hopefully we can eventually have some cool toys and tools in place to help move the site forward. Some things to look forward to: I've already put together a Currently in the Judging Process dashboard for ReMixers and hopefuls to keep an eye on. It's a live view of the judging process without having to wait for a Judge to update a forum thread. We're actively developing and testing a proper Submission form for ReMixers and hopefuls to use when sending us music. We've been asking you to send us an email for far too long. That's going to change. We've put together a "stream team" to evaluate how we can do more with our YouTube channel and even get things going on Twitch in some capacity. There are a lot more things we're talking about internally as well, but I don't want to over-promise anything right now. If you have ideas for OCR, feel free to share them in our Site Issues & Feedback forum. I'd also love for folks to come by and join our OC ReMix Discord server. I know the forums have been pretty sleepy for a few years now, but the chat server is lively and active. Hope to see you there.

  3. Happy New Year, everyone! Just wanted to check-in and let you all know that we've got a new submissions process for remixes. Since the inception of the site, we've been asking you to host your file somewhere and send us an email with a bunch of information about your remix. This has lead to a lot of headaches on both your end and our end, but now we're finally moving forward with a more modern method. Introducing the new Submissions Tracking page! We've used our forum software to build out a custom form where you can upload your track directly to us. This post will get a status and linked to a decision thread, and it also features a comments section where judges can communicate with you about issues with your remix. Submissions are private, so only you and the judges can see them. In the coming months we'll be retiring the old email method of submitting remixes with an auto-response that'll direct folks towards the new system. This new form, combined with our recently revamped Currently in the Judging Process dashboard, will help you keep tabs on your submissions. A big shout out to all of the ReMixers and Judges who helped me test out this new system. I've had ideas for years for turning our submissions and judging workflows into a fully integrated piece of software, and while the limitations of our forum software prevent us from hitting that goal 100%, this is a huge step in the right direction. I'm looking forward to hearing what you all are going to send us. — DarkeSword

  4. I don`t know exactly what I want to say, and none of this is planed out, but I think its wild this place is still around. For one reason or another Ill check the remixes and get a wave of "the good old days" and not just from the music but this community, Which Ill admit, I was not super active, but from the time when I first came across it, I think maybe a TechTv show sent me this way? Its wild people are still mixing Aquatic ambiance, and it still puts a smile on my face. I remember the first album I watched get released was Kong In Concert, I burned it to a disc (mp3 cd players were so cool) and would listen to it in Algebra 1, perhaps its why took algebra one twice. I always wanted to be musical I would love to be able to contribute in that way. Thank you to everyone that still makes music for this community even If it gets said once or thousands of time it's very appreciated.

  5. Well ladies and gents, it's the time of year again. The time when a group of ragtag remixers comes together and makes a Christmas album for everyone to freely grab and (hopefully) enjoy. This year, we're offering up 14 remixes of both traditional Christmas carols and video game songs, all done up to give that holiday vibe to everyone. So feel free to hop on over to the website and grab yourself a copy of An OverClocked Christmas v.XV. A big thanks goes out to Dyne for once again hosting the album, and to those who made the mixes this year. And of course, Merry Christmas from all of us involved in this project! https://williammichael.info/aocc/

  6. It's time for BadAss to return! David L. Puga and I return to direct BadAss: Paragons and Renegades (title may change). But this isn't your "regular" BadAss; this time the heroes get the spotlight! From the grittiest anti-heroes to the most determined heroes, it's time for the protagonists to show us what they've got! The album itself will have genre restrictions like previous BadAss albums, but with a twist: there's one 'Paragons' disc (mainly directed by me) and one 'Renegades' disc (mainly directed by David), each with a different genre. So let's see who wins while still being a BadAss doing it! The Paragon disc is about adventure, determination and courage. Think of the Chrono Trigger theme, "Flameheart"by Two Steps From Hell (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQMpRWuT6hk), and the 'X-Training' theme from X-Men First Class (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUCA6w0Zz-k) but it is certainly not limited by orchestral. Rock themes like the 80s/90s cartoons and shows (Biker Mice from Mars, Power Rangers or Airwolf) are also good examples and electronic music is certainly appreciated as well! Base line: getting you pumped up and ready for adventure! Make sure to send me an example of the vibe you're going for to check if it fits the album! The Renegade disc is more "regular" BadAss style, especially BadAss II. In other words, not the big epic or symphonic rock from BadAss 3 (which is perhaps better suited for the Paragon disc), but raw and gritty is the name of the game and rock and dark electronic music will be the go-to style here. We want to show the world that protagonists can be at least as BadAss as the bosses, so let their inner darkness out on this side of the album! For references (and awesome music), check out BadAss 2. Be sure to check in with David if you want to make a mix for this disc! More details will follow, but we're aiming for about 20 tracks (balanced between the discs) and we want to complete this in about a year (BadAss 3 took 14 months to be sent to eval, so let's see if we can do it in 12 this time around!). And suffice to say, only (anti-)hero themes are eligible this time around! Are you going to be part of the next BadAss album? Let's see if you've got what it takes! Directors: David L. Puga (The Joker) Pavos Audio Engineer: Stevo Bortz (Level99) Tracklist (18): Paragon (9): "The Hidden Ones (Assassin's Creed 2 & Origins - Ezio & Bayek)" by Pavos "Time Warrior (Chrono Trigger - Crono)" by Sam Dillard "Chariot of the Moon (Final Fantasy 4 - Cecil)" by Rebecca E Tripp "Revenge on the Terror From The Deep (Chrono Trigger - Magus)" by Audio Mocha & Pandora's Bread "Human After All (Sundered - Eshe)" by David L. Puga, XPRTNovice "Part of Me (Celeste - Madeline)" by HeyMagurany "Whip of Justice (Castlevania 4 - Simon Belmont)" by HoboKa, sykozealot "Apex Predator (Metroid Series - Samus)" by Chernabogue "Spirit of the Sword (Zelda Skyward Sword - Fi)" by McVaffe Renegade (9): "Devils Lament (DooM Series - Doom Slayer)" by Lashmush "Fire Cleanses All (Gargoyle's Quest - Firebrand)" by Mak Eightman "Blood is Everywhere (Blood - Caleb)" by Clem "Eternal Shadow (DMC5 - Nero)" by Steele "Bassbag (Duke Nukem 3D - Duke Nukem)" by bLiNd "Righteous Ragemaster Rocketship Rampage (ToeJam and Earl - Toejam and Earl)" by Garpocalypse, Willrock "The Butcher of Bavikin (Witcher 3 - Geralt)" by Gunderslam "City of Lost Things (Earthworm Jim - Earthworm Jim)" by Justin Lassen "And Hell Followed Him (Darksiders 2 - Death)" by David L. 7. Just chiming in - no matter what Soule did, this game's soundtrack is a part of many folks' childhoods, and nothing changes that. However, deciding to participate in this project is one of those topics where, personally, I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. I've explained my personal reasoning, and how I conceive of art in the abstract, but I'm not offended if anyone finds it unpersuasive/disagrees. Key thing is that no one gets judged, either way, for their decision on this, or attempts to equate others' decisions to participate with a tacit endorsement of the behavior in question.

  8. About Rise again, Robot Masters! The year is 2018, and the battle for musical supremacy returns! Bring your phattest beats, your wailingest guitars, and other superlatively described musical elements! Current News Round 7 is over. The matchups were as follows: Remixer and Source VS Remixer and Source Arceace - Air Man vs Garpocalypse - Tengu Man Voting is live and will last until November 14, 2018. Past Rounds Music downloads for past rounds are available in voting threads. A tournament archive will be provided at the conclusion of the competition. Round 1 - Mega Man Bracket Round 2 - Proto Man Bracket Round 3 - Mega Man Bracket Round 4 & 5 Round 6 - Proto Man Bracket Round 7 - Grand Final Eliminated Competitors Eliminated competitors are welcome to challenge other eliminated competitors to friendly matches during any mixing stage. I will encode, tag, and host any friendly matches and provide voting along with tournament entries. Remixer and Source AxLR - Metal Man Ronald Poe - Cut Man pixelchips - Tornado Man Supercoolmike - Shade Man Realme - Wind Man Gario - Cloud Man Trism - Top Man Starphoenix - Grenade Man SuperiorX - Ground Man Ridiculously Garret - Crash Man Chalis - Flash Man PlanarianHugger - Freeze Man Mak Eightman - Fire Man Jamphibious - Charge Man Submission Instructions Submission All entries must be sent to me (DarkeSword) via PM on the forums. Please include the round number in the subject line of your PM. I encode all MP3s myself, so please send me your submissions in 16bit, 44.1KHz WAV format. Don’t send MP3s. Please do not use MediaFire, RapidShare, or any other ad-ridden public sharing site as a host for your entry. There are many better options you can and should be using to host your music. I recommend Dropbox or SoundCloud. Make sure your files are downloadable. File Names Filenames must be in the following format: Your Artist Name - Your Remix Title (Your Robot Master vs. Opponent's Robot Master).wav For example: DarkeSword - Be Cool, Man (Ice Man vs. Blizzard Man).wav Notes Make sure you’re using proper capitalization for Robot Master names. Put spaces on both sides of the hyphen the Artist and the Title. If your remix’s title has special punctuation that you can’t include in the file name (e.g. \ / : \* ? " < > |), please let me know in your submission PM so I can include the correct title in the tags. Robot Master names have a space between the element and Man; e.g. it’s Ice Man, not Iceman. There should be a period (.) after vs. Please follow the file name format exactly; I use the file names to make sure that all the metadata is correct when I tag the MP3s. It’s a massive pain sitting there renaming, re-spacing, and reformatting so that everything works properly with mp3tag’s file-name-to-tag tools, and ultimately it means that when you all do it right, I can get the music up for voting way faster. Voting Rules and Guidelines Voting is conducted publicly in the Public Voting forum. Every week, a thread will be created for the most recently completed round of remixing. Things to keep in mind when voting: The most important thing to consider when voting is how well the remix incorporates and arranges both themes. Production and enjoyability should also be considered, but this is primarily an arrangement competition. Everyone is allowed (and encouraged) to vote, including competitors. Everyone must adhere to the Competitions Code of Conduct. How Does it Work? Theme Selection Choose three Robot Master themes from any of the following classic Mega Man games: Mega Man 1-6 (NES) Mega Man 7 (SNES) Mega Man 8 (PSX/Saturn) Mega Man 9-10 (PSN/XBL) Mega Man V (GB) (This game has Stardroids instead of Robot Masters, but that’s okay) Mega Man & Bass (SNES/GBA) Post your list of three in order of preference. A draft will be run to determine your Robot Master theme assignment. This is the theme you’ll be remixing as you progress through the tournament. The Tournament The GRMRB is a single-elimination style tournament, with scrambled match-ups every round. The tournament will have 3-4 rounds (depending on participation). Each round is divided into two stages: the Mixing Stage and the Voting Stage. At the start of the Mixing Stage, you’re matched with an opponent. You and your opponent have one week to write, produce, and submit your own respective remixes that arrange both of your Robot Master themes. Once the week is up, all remixes are submitted to the Competition Organizer (i.e. me). This is the end of the Mixing Stage. At the start of the Voting Stage, the remixes are uploaded and made available for voters to download. Voters will listen to the music, and decide which remix in each pair “wins the battle.” As the GRMRB is an arrangement competition, the primary criteria voters should look at is how well the remixes incorporate both themes. Production quality and enjoyability should also be considered. After a week of voting, votes are tabulated and the winners of each remix battle are declared. These winners are scrambled and new match-ups are posted for the next Mixing Stage. Defeated competitors are welcome to challenge other defeated competitors to “friendly” matches while the tournament progresses. These matches won’t affect the outcome of the tournament and won’t be tracked in any kind of bracket, but I will collect, upload, and provide voting polls for friendlies. The tournament will continue until one remixer remains. That remixer will be crowned the Grand Robot Master Remixer.

  10. Hey all; just wanted to share some pretty cool news, for everyone here who didn't see the buzz on Facebook. This past Friday, my hometown of Syracuse held their annual "Syracuse Area Music Awards," also known as the SAMMYS. Local artists were celebrated per albums released during the previous year. Considering my remix project of American Pixels was launched last January, and I crafted it in Syracuse, I was nominated. I'm blessed to be able to announce that I actually won the award for "Best Electronica," and was able to use the platform to showcase the world of video game remixing (and game music in general) to a whole new audience! It was awesome to be honored where I grew up, but it was doubly cool to take game music to a place that typically focuses on rock, jazz, and folk, ya know? It was a fun night.

  11. Not sure if this tidbit of advice will help, but here's how I finished American Pixels. That was a 5+ year project, tons of excitement at the front-end, and then it turned into... work. And here's the problem, I have a family and a full-time job, so I kept hitting the snag where I'd work all day, spend time with the family, have a pocket of free time at night, and then... not have any energy left. That, or there'd be this sense of "yay, I have time to work on music... and oh no, I feel obligated to work on that project and I'm really not in the mood..." So, that happened over and over, and occasionally I'd have a magic day off (holiday, whatever) where I'd get a wonderful 4 hours in a row to myself... and during those moments, I could tap into the creative juices and get it going again... but man, those little magical windows were rare. Like, once every few months rare. It got really frustrating seeing an album inch to completion in those sporadic bursts. The answer for me: wake up earlier. I'd set my alarm for 4:30am, be in my studio by 5am, and get in a solid hour, hour and a half every morning. My brain wasn't yet tired from the day job, I was rested and fresh, and the stuff that seemed like work before now seemed fun again. And, it actually helped my happiness level, so even though I was sleepy, I was giddy at work considering the progress I made in the early morning hours. And then I just had to ride and chase that feeling until things were done. It was tough to get started, but then it became strangely addicting.

  13. With the go ahead from @djpretzel, I waited until their OCRemix Panel was complete this past Saturday at MAGFest where they would premiere this exclusive preview of this album: Arcadia Legends! Now that the MAGFest panel is over, it is time to unveil the trailer to the rest of you who didn't make it to MAGFest this year! Hopefully you all enjoy the sneak peek soundbytes in this trailer and get hyped. For those who were on the fence of contributing to it, guess what? We still got a few more tracks left to claim! By all means, shoot us a note and we can get things started! We're almost to the end! Kudos to my co-director Modus for building off the base trailer I had created and making a fantastic version of it!

  14. Hey all! Just some quick updates I wanted to let you all know about. Site & Forum Updates If you're an artist, your forum profile now includes a link to your artist page. This also shows up in your little profile box when you post threads. I've been doing a couple of small style and layout tweaks to forum listings in an effort to reduce some whitespace. Guidelines for certain forums have been moved out of the announcements module to the forum's internal rules setting. You'll see a relevant link on forums that have specific guidelines. I did a pass on forum profile fields and deleted a lot of obsolete data (like the field for your ICQ number!). There are a couple of new fields too, like Pronouns and Discord. Make sure you head over to your account settings and keep that profile updated! Tagging has been disabled on forum threads for regular members. We (the staff) weren't seeing a lot of sensical or consistent usage, so we're in the process of cleaning those up. We may revisit forum thread tags later with predefined options. The Ready to Review process in the Post Your Game ReMixes forum has been retired. It served us well for a couple of years but after a while we found that people were not engaging with it, and it felt like another bureacratic layer to the submission process. We've gone back to the older, more open-ended format where you can just post your remixes for feedback. A similar process in the Recruit & Collaborate forum has also been retired. Vote counts on submissions in the queue have been moved out of thread titles and into tags for the purposes of some internal tooling I'd like to try, so you won't see those anymore on the Currently dashboard and I worked on fixing how that data gets pushed to the dashboard, so you'll still see vote counts. Upcoming Events Do you have OPINIONS about REMIXES? Join us this Thursday at 8:30PM EST on Discord where we run the first-of-hopefully-many Review Bombs! We're going to get a listening party going for OC ReMixes that have gone the longest without having any reviews and rectify the situation. I've heard of Metroidvania, but METROID VERSUS VANIA?! This Friday, we're kicking off the second run of Game Set Mash!!, our long-form team-based remix competition. This run features music from two legendary franchises: Metroid and Castlevania, and two teams will compete to see who can make the best Metroidvania Mashups. They'll have two weekends to get their tracks done, so check back at the start of February and get your votes in! Speaking of competitions, I'd be remiss if I didn't shout-out the People's Remix Competition, which just ended a legendary 20 year run under the stewardship of @Bundeslang. I remember back when PRC started back in 2003 (!!) and it's been a rock solid staple of OC ReMix since then, with a lot of musicians in the community developing and honing their skills through their participation. Absolutely incredible work from everyone involved over these past two decades. Make sure you check out the thread for the last round! Well, that's all from me for now. I'm still getting a handle on how everything works and fits together here, but slowly-and-surely we're going to continue to inch OCR ever-forward. Thanks! - DarkeSword

  15. And here we are yet again. Another year has passed and the latest AOCC is done and ready for consuming. For the moment, it's a link to my Dropbox. But once Dyne gets the site ready, I'll change it go there. From all of us who took part in the overclocking of Christmas this year, we all hope you enjoy the music https://williammichael.info/aocc/

  16. It's that time. Once again, some of the folks who post on OCR have come together to make an album full of Christmas-y remixes for you to enjoy. This year, we've got 10 tracks that touch on a number of genres and moods, along with some pixel cover art by yours truly. You can download the project from the link below, so feel free to grab it... along with the other 13 albums As always, thanks to everyone who participated, tried to participate, and to Dyne for continuing to host it. http://williammichael.info/aocc/aoccv14.html http://williammichael.info/aocc/

  17. Well hello there, folks! Yes, the time has once again come. As has been the tradition for over a decade now, remixers new and seasoned have come together to make a Christmas album for everyone to enjoy. Featuring songs from video games that were given a little yuletide twist, and traditional Christmas carols that got a kick in the genre, this year we have 10 songs for you get into the spirit with. Once again, a "thanks" goes out to Dyne for hosting this. And from all of us involved with this project, we hope you have a merry Christmas http://williammichael.info/aocc/aoccv13.html

  18. We scoured the land for the most evil people we could find to join us, and we're proud to add @prophetik music and @Rexy to the judges panel. I'm personally aiming to finally have that submissions queue go to 0 by the end of this year, and we're excited to have their help. Revel in their fresh perspectives and presence now before they become entrenched in the system and simply become part of the evil mass of musical oppression that the rest of us have morphed into. (a.k.a. WELCOME!)

And the winner of PRC472 is Coloradoweeks with 23 points. Congratulations Coloradoweeks, even if I miscalculed half of the votes you are still in the winner of the final PRC round. Well deserved, and close to an unanimous win. You still may pick a source but it will not be used for a further PRC. You can send it to me by PM or just post it in this thread. Some followers might reward your win with a remix, or I might organise a special round somewhere in the future. Even tough Coloradoweeks is the winner of this round, I think we all have won this one. A fantastic amount of remixes resulting in the end of PRC. Big thanks to all remixers, voters and listeners, the OC Remix and ThaSauce Community http://sites.google.com/site/bambombim/prc for all rounds and winners. https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/prc472 for the votes and comments. If anyone is interested in any old PRC songs, I have them somewhere so I can share them if there is any interest. Everything from PRC94 and later is at the ThaSauce site. This is the end of PRC, but not from my visits to OC Remix. I Will Return (but not as PRC host). Thank You

  20. Hi @Bundeslang. First, I want to sincerely thank you for keeping PRC going for as long as you did. PRC was a huge part of my development as an artist in the early days of OCR along other older competitions like IMC and I made a lot of collabs and friends in these competitions. I am no longer making music, nor I am around online much but when I saw the email about this PRC being the last I had to jump in to salute and thank you and the oher artists. I would say the absolute best part of being part of the community by far were PRC and other compos. The constraints of the competitions I felt really helped me break out of some walls, and some of the remixes I made here both as sir_nuts and as showroom dummy made the jump to the front page. Again thank you and all of those who participated over the years. Hope you are doing great and wish you nothing but the absolute best in the future.

  22. Aaron Webber @RubyEclipse on Twitter, Social Media and PR guy for SEGA of America was delivered by us, over 70 copies of the physical Arcadia Legends album! They also sent over copies with personalized letters from us to SEGA of Japan where a copy got into the hands of REIKO KODAMA, the producer of Skies of Arcadia! She was VERY pleased! We did it guys! They appreciated all the hard work and effort we did to make this a reality! It may not make a huge difference in getting a Skies of Arcadia 2, but I'm willing to take whatever we can get! Thanks again to everyone who contributed and supported us!

  24. Coding Angel stands out for sure, as it's the only one with a lead vocal. It's a funny one, too. After having these marinate for about a week, I think Undervalued is the one that gets me the most (reasons somewhat intangible really), and the first 4 songs of Disc 3 back-to-back-to-back-to-back is such quality, quality run. I wrote a little something about every track because this was the first OCR album I was this pumped for in ages, and it was nice to feel like a kid again, waiting for it to drop. Disc 1 The Voyage Begins Such a great opening theme, and you get right into it! This is one of a couple on this album that could fit seamlessly into the actual game. I can never mix solo piano with other instruments in my own music too well, so nice job on that. From 2:52 onward was really all I needed, deep down, from this entire album. I mean, everything else is also super nice!! Legend in the Making As much as I appreciate face melting virtuosity, I EQUALLY appreciate 8th note / 16th note chugging guitars and bass. It just scratches the itch that the mathy or proggy stuff can't, you know? This strikes a nice balance between serious and playful, which suits the character of Vyse well. The extra couple notes after the origial motif plays is a good touch. Blue Skies, Pirate Surprise This one changes and/or escalates fast and often in just three minutes, and I try to do similar stuff in my own music. I dig it! There's some great interplay between the synths and guitars, each falling back and jumping forward again to be the lead. Delicious bubbly bass towards the end. One of the shortest tracks on the album but it covers a lot of ground, and very re-listenable because of that. Rogue Sanctuary Getting a little Carl W. Stalling vibe from the percussion, but then it swells to something wider. Great adventurous, open sky (or open sea) vibe from this. Mischievous and also sweeping, capturing the spirit of the game (climbing that huge ladder into the air...), and I can't help but compare it to the original with how close it sounds. I prefer this new version, I gotta say Secret Bass Gritty but smooth, and I'm always into bass puns. Largemouth bass, second bassman, etc. Reading the artist notes, I never would have thought that this ReMix went through so many different iterations, because it just seems like this was meant to always be exactly like this. I guess that's the beauty of a “finished” piece of music. It is what it is, and it'll be like that forever! I like the vocal and seagulls here, especially. Into the Deep Dark Oh man, I would listen to the OCR version of this one over a decade ago all the time (can't remember off hand who did it, but check it out), and always had it as, like, the secondary version of Dungeon of the Cave when I got tired of listening to the OG version. THIS version is quite different, and just has so much richness to it, movement to movement, and is very evocative. If ever a SoA film were to be made, I can easily see the section Delphinus flying under Valua to fight the yellow Gigas with this ReMix playing. Getting a lot of drama out of the source, for sure. Arcadian Assault Love this battle theme, and keeping the same tempo as the original and just adding a beat and some flair would have been passable, but I'm really into the slowed down, de-tuned vibe here! Love your instrument choice all-around, I must say. The second half is more than a little 80s, and is one of my favorite 90 seconds of music I've heard in several months, really. There's an album called “Something” from a band called Chairlift that has a really similar sound. Victory! Glory! Profit? Takes the melody you hear more times than any in the entire game and adds a LOT of extra little riffs to it. Those shiny kick drums and that lead...out of everything off this entire album, this ReMix sounds the most “SEGA” to me - like something from an options menu from one of those Sonic collection GCN discs - so bonus points for that, even if it wasn't intentional! Really well-arranged for such a tiny source tune, tasteful wubs useage, and perfectly upbeat (“I wish they were all that easy!"). A Sailor's Respite I like how this one kind of sways back and forth, like a boat in the ocean. Or a drunken sailor. A drunken sailor who thinks very highly of himself, with that harpsichord! This is another one with a lot of melodic richness to it (as mentioned in the artist notes), and does justice to the spirit of the source material. The Silver Crystal Really like those pads at 0:55 that are only around for a tiny bit. Nice little fake-out, and there are several little moments like that. Great one-off fills, and a few sections that kind of lilt more than groove. Keeps things less predictable and more interesting. I like that I expected a note-y piano solo to start in the second minute, but it never does. I mean, that would have been good too, but nice restraint. Lets the source melody stand out the most. Better Days I love him as a character, and have played through this game half a dozen times, but I can't even recall what Drachma's theme is off the top of my head....and listening to this, I couldn't pick it out! I guess that's on me, haha. But I like the clopping at 1:30, and LOVE the toy pianos. Can literally never go wrong with toy pianos. Nice horn interplay in the second half, too. “Better Days” would fit this one well, even if it was a totally original tune. Sepia tone for sure. On Wings of Feathers As much as I adore the SoA main theme AND the Little Jack theme, I NEVER noticed that they're melodically linked until listening to this ReMix. Since like, 2003. Until 2018. Wow. Anyhow, great sax, does it's job perfectly. This reminds me of how the newer Mario Kart games have re-vamped some of the classic MK tunes. Left the original bassline intact at the end, which I'm a fan of. Disc 2 Blasting the Sand Demon This fuggin' rips. The blast beats tread the line between realism and programmed so well; I'm really impressed by them. And even more impressed by the mixing of all these guitar layers. Crunchy and busy but no mud at all. If I was mixing this I'd be so frustrated with my snare sound and would give up totally, but you made it all work. And the riffage, duh. I actually laughed when 3:20 started because it's exactly what I wanted to happen at that moment in my life. From the Perilous Skies to Your Heart This reminds of all those OC ReMixes I had burned to CD from like 2003-2005. I don't know if you were going for the “new millennium” club mix sound, but this ReMix has such a nostalgic vibe to it. Having the main melody soar over everything is a great touch. Driving and heroic, this one. The climb starting at 4:30, and then going all the way to the end...sublime. Valse pour un Prince Rebelle Man, Enrique's theme is one I would have never agreed to, not gonna lie. He's such a wet blanket character, and his theme is one of my least favorite pieces of music from the game. You made it so much more colorful with a waltz. And the stings you used are actually pretty close to the ones used in the OST (a bit more modern, of course), which makes me feel like this could almost be an SoA lost track! Valhorteka “Horetka Stomp” is a classic for me, too. The rainstick/tambourine thing at the start is great. What I really appreciate in this is how the flute(s) are mixed lower than the guitars and drums. I am by no means a pro mixer but I think that adds an extra touch of realism. That change-up around 2:50 is wonderful. Flute stabs now. Everything is percussive. Michael Flatley is here. Then the melody returns. A really fantastic little breakdown. Inner Reflections Always impressed when a simple source tune is fleshed out so thoroughly. The hollow waves and vocoder stuff butted up against that very tangible and warm acoustic guitar make a beautiful juxtaposition. One of the loveliest moments on the album, I'd say. A lot of extra touches here but also very digestible, which I always appreciate in electronic music. Rusted Hopes Very faithful Anglo-Saxon update of the original, and a little more hopeful, yes. Like it could symbolize a new beginning rather than the end of the line. Several melodic lines are quite wonderful, all interweaving and then falling away. I'm thinking of each new instrument as a character visiting a person who's lost hope, to convince them to stand back up. Especially into all the metallic instruments here. Nice and jangly/plucky. The Darkness is Already Here There's an incredible moment in the source when the main loop stops and these synth keys come in with a really beautiful little riff, and I was so pleased that it appears here, softly, under those shrieks of...whatever that is, hah. I was startled, and then like “there it is!” ...I'm sure some of this is because I'm not too familiar with much of the utilized instruments, but I can't pick out what's real and what's sampled here, which is a good thing. Something interesting: After listening to this album, I looked through some Remixer Profiles, and saw that ZykO also did “Of Transformants and Brevity”. Dude, I think I must've downloaded that one right as it was posted like a decade and a half ago, and to this day it's one of my absolute favorites. Really cinematic, tense, and brooding, and I can trace elements of it all the way up to this Dark Rift mix. Pretty sweet. You definitely have your own sound that's been evolving. Il buono, il brutto, il pirata dell'aria. As a Morricone acolyte (he is arguably the most versatile living classical composer), this is all I could ask for in a ReMix. Presenting the source material in an original and creative way while still keeping it easily recognizable, with authentic sounds and performances to boot. This shows a lot of love to both the original and the genre it's reinterpreted in. Formidabile! Shrouded Void I love the choice of lead. Cuts through the void, you could say! Nice and resonant. Love the little square waves that come in after 2 minutes. Really digging that you just let it groove and swell for a while, before the solo, which itself is great. Sometimes I hear synth solos that fly too far off the handle with the pitch bending and length, but this was short and very sweet. Undervalued This is one of my faves from the game, and boy, this is MIGHT be my favorite on this album. Jeez. I listened three times in a row on my first run-through. Like you said in the notes, you really brought the percussion out, and combined with your choice of instruments and overall flavor of sound design, this is so refreshing. It's actually not too far off what I would have *tried* to do with the Valua theme (I wouldn't have done it this well). The vocals (a couple near-off voices sometimes have so much more emotion than an entire far-off choir), the glass breaking, the bass (I used to play this on bass all the time, haha)...this one is going into my OCR HoF. Love love love. Coding Angel Turning Gilder's Theme into a pop song about struggling with learning how to program (or perhaps crushing on someone in your PC lab :3 ) is such a fun twist (and I absolutely feel the writer's pain). It's such a simple source tune, and that you thought of a way to squeeze such a creative idea out of it makes me smile. Just the fact that there are actual singing/lyrics makes it one of the most catchy (and singable) songs on the album. To the Horizon In my head, the Delphinus theme would be a really tough one on its own, so having it weave in and out of other themes as part of a larger medley (and also keeping with the meta-narrative of the game's overworld) was a smart choice, and this track really has guts. I would never be able to glue all these themes together and have it hold a listener's interest for 13 miutes. The brass on the Armada theme is HEAVY. I love it. Town of Ice right before it is also super pretty. Those are probably my two favorite sections. Or movements? I always enjoyed the Little Jack theme more than the Delphinus's in the game, but if I had this tune playing instead, things would be different. Disc 3 The MFD Really good percussion in the arrangement and panning departments... this track has so many great dynamic subtleties; the ongoing level/velocity adjustments in the instrumentation make the whole song breathe. Tracks like this make me strain to try and figure out what's live and what isn't, and I actually had to read the artist notes to be sure! Such great texture and timbre in those keys. Literally everything here is tasty and tasteful. The original song was also remade for Sega All-Star Racing or whatever that game was called, but this version of course offers so much more. Brain Sound Tilt YUP. These are some Alva Noto-esque high frequencies skittering around in here, hitting my ears in all the right spots. I don't know if they're synths or samples or what, but they're so physiologically satisfying. This is like an evil club dirge. Love the dissonant riff at 3:16. Glitchy but very followable. Perfect for that SoA remake or sequel that won't ever happen. And flows nicely into... ...Black Moon Whooooo boy, all this bass...it's like Gigas energy leaking out. Or something. REALLY made the most out of this source, holy cow. 2:09 – 2:32 is the boss's sauce. Belongs on a Kanye record. This whole thing is a jam and half. The power-down at the very end is the kind of ear candy that helped me justify buying nice speakers. Nervousness in Just Bravery Disguised It's a quote from the game, right? This is yet ANOTHER piece from the game that I wouldn't have any earthly idea how to reinterpret, and you killed it. 3:10 to the end is an album standout moment for me. The kick throughout the song and and filthy bass tone around 1:45 reminds me a lot of a band called Big Black, the “Atomizer” record in particular. This is and the previous two tracks really fit together seamlessly, and really hold you and don't let go. Nice job on the ordering! Life in a Vyse Like the plate on everything here. Contrasts well with the other rock/metal tracks thus far that have the more compressed, clean-your-chrome thing going on. This one is a little more 70s with that sick ELP “Tarkus” organ + bass riffage. Closing with the “we're winning this” version playing in soaring guitar hero fashion, and then the last two death blows on those low notes. <3 Shining Silver For sure a stand-out on the original OST, and a stand-out on AL as well. Out of all the orchestral jams on this album, this one sounds the most expansive {and also perhaps the most expensive...is that the Vienna Symphonic }, like I'm in space. Taken up to the Silver Shrine itself. Every instrument section here is drenched in just the right amount of reverb and panned very, very well, and the female choir, when it appears, is a beautiful touch. God's Ambition Mallets and woodwinds add some great color. This one is similar to “Into the Deep Dark” at first, more cinematic and then BREAKS LOSE with the Wobbly Reese x John Williams combo that I don't think I've ever heard before. Doing the analog meets electronic thing works so well with the aesthetic of the Armada. The battle against Galcian is my favorite in the game, and I think this is my favorite of all of the great stuff Deedubs did on their own for this album. In Solitude, I Scream The original always made me think of “A Warm Place”, by NIN. This ReMix does what I can never do, which is make a more ambient source and reinvigorate it without simply adding a 4-on-the-floor beat. The resonant bass harmonics at 2:40 are so gross, in the best way. Swirling arpeggios are very dungeon-like, for sure. Unknown Menace I love how sinister the source riff is, and I love whatever instrument/synth that is you used to play it here (4:35 especially, with the hissing/breathing sounds also there). So spooky. Also like how stabby this. Get a bit of mid-90s "Next Step Electronica" keys going on here. Tempo-stretched Fina dipping low into a buzzing, baroque breakdown to end the first half was a super cool moment. Silver Nightmare I guess to do a song like this, the guitar needs to be super on-point, while the orchestral element has to be less rigid to the tempo, keeping things sounding nice a human. Nice work with that, because it totally works. All the soft sections here are GORGEOUS, whoa. 2:57 onward is my favorite bit of guitar playing on the album. Nice tone, hitting all the right notes, and the perfect amounts of them. The End of a Dream There are more orchestral pieces on this album than any other style (I think....), and they have so many different motifs and changes, and so much motion in them...to have this final one be on the shorter side, and focusing mainly on the source, and the slow, dramatic sinking on the continent...it's really a perfect final movement. Does exactly what it needs to do within the context of an album that's following the course of the game. Wonderful. Hearth and Home The coda. Can't even tell if that cello's “real” or not. So much meticulous string-craft (that's not a word) in here, and at this slow tempo with all those sustained notes, that kind of thing can be risky. But it's sounds so good. And yo, It's the staff roll! You could've just done a solo piano jawn! But instead you things three steps further. The ¾ section with the guitar is my favorite part. But the whole thing is super pretty. --------------- So, yes, as someone who used to be obsessed with Skies of Arcadia Legends and is still obsessed with it's music (or the Dreamcast version's....the GCN version had sampled-down soundtrack, and you can really tell if you do a YouTube comparison), this Arcadia Legends album now sits next to Worlds Apart as one of my two favorites from OCR. Reading the artist notes, I was surprised to discover that so many people that worked on these remixes had never played the game! But their stuff sounded fantastic anyhow. It goes to show you how music from games doesn't have to have a nostalgic connection to mean something to people. Or any music, really. It also goes to show you how tenacious Darkflamewolf was in getting this thing done, just straight-up recruiting people. The plan was in motion for 3 years, and that's along time to direct anything. I'm impressed! I wish I had bothered to look at the OCR forums before 2018 or I would have volunteered. BUT, “Dungeon of Ice” was never claimed! It's one of the OST's best, and I'm halfway done my own version already, inspired by listening to all these great tunes. Anyhow, beautiful work, everyone. Happy New Year, and congrats!

  29. In the past 2 weeks, we've been wrapping up work on the album, received some track updates, finished the artwork and other bits and bobs. In short: we just sent over the final package to OCR staff so they can do their thing and bring it to y'all. To celebrate, I updated the first post of this thread with the album art as a teaser for the good things to come. Only a bit more time before we can finally share the good stuff with you all

  31. Welcome to the first ever Game Set Mash!!, a new team-based longform competition format for the OC ReMix community! Current Status Game Set Mash!! 1 has come to an end, with both teams earning 27 points by the end of the competition. Congratulations to everyone on such a close competition. Fantastic work. Music Round 1 Remix Pack Round 2 Remix Pack Round 3 Remix Pack Scoring Each submission is worth 2 points, and each victory is worth 2 point. A tie results in 1 point for each participant. The scores for Round 1 are as follows Team SNES - 3 submissions + 2 victories = 10 points. Team PSX - 3 submissions + 1 victory = 8 points. The scores for Round 2 are as follows Team SNES - 3 submissions + 1 victory + 1 tie = 9 points. Team PSX - 3 submissions + 1 victory + 1 tie = 9 points. The scores for Round 3 are as follows Team SNES - 3 submissions + 1 victory = 8 points Team PSX - 3 submissions + 2 victories = 10 points The total scores are as follows Team SNES - 27 points Team PSX - 27 points Team Rosters Team SNES: Yami, The Vodoú Queen, colorado weeks, Aeroprism, ZackParrish, Xaleph Team PSX: pixelseph, H36T, paradiddlesjosh, Emunator, Hemophiliac How does the competition work? Participating remixers will form 2 teams of at least 3 members each. Each team will be assigned a set of 3 games. The competition lasts 6 weeks, with week-long mixing rounds alternating with week-long voting periods. At the start of the mixing round, each team will choose and reveal 1 source tune from each of their 3 games. Each source will be paired with another source from the opposing team, for a total of 3 pairs. Each team will be responsible for writing 3 remixes for the week that combine (or mash) both source tunes in each pair. At the end of the mixing round, we'll upload the remixes and have a community vote. Voters will vote on the 3 remixes that did the best job of mashing the two source tunes together. Teams will accumulate a score based on how many of the community votes they win. In the next mixing round, we'll rotate which games get paired up with opposing games. What are the rules about teams? I want to make things easy and accessible for people to participate, so there's no maximum on team size, but I will be asking people to do their best to even out the teams once we have all of our participants signed up. Unlike previous competitions I've run, there's no rules about who has to be a primary arranger for a track from week to week. Teams will be free to organize and determine how each of the three remixes gets covered. Using your teammates for collaboration and feedback is highly encouraged. What are the games we're remixing? For the first GSM, one team will be SNES Final Fantasy games (FF4, FF5, and FF6) going up against a team for PSX Final Fantasy games (FF7, FF8, FF9). Almost any song from these expansive, legendary soundtracks is allowed, save for a few exceptions: specifically, songs that show up in both SNES and PSX games, like the Prelude or any variation of the Chocobo and Moogle themes. When your team is picking sources at the start of the remixing rounds, pick something unique to each game. This seems like it'll take a long time, when does it start? I'm aiming to gather interest here on the forums and in our Discord and I'd like to start in August, depending on if we can get some sizable teams. I would love to have around 6-7 people on each team to really get the spirit of collaboration going. I'm happy to answer any more questions. It's been about 4-5 years since we've done one of our bigger multi-round competitions. I'm hoping to see some new faces in the mix.

  32. Hi all! I'm posting this topic to announce my upcoming 9-bit chiptune music game, Rhythm Quest! Wishlist on Steam now! Rhythm Quest is a 2-button rhythm platformer game developed by DDRKirby(ISQ). (that's me!) Jump, attack, and fly to the beat to get past challenging obstacles in this rhythm-based twist on a traditional "runner" game. I'm personally handling all aspects of the game, including coding, music, game design, artwork, and production. In particular, being both the composer and level designer has allowed me to create music tracks that are mapped out specifically to provide call-outs to obstacles in the game. Check it out in action in the gameplay trailer! Each type of enemy requires different button sequences to defeat: Wings offer extra mid-air jumps, while flight paths require you to hold down the jump button: Speed zones change up the rhythm of the song: Rhythm Quest will release on Steam/itch.io for PC/Mac/Linux, as well as iOS/Android, and Nintendo Switch. My estimated release date is currently late 2022 (?), but well...you all know how release dates can be for game projects [knocks on wood]. I've just recently published the steam page for the game, so I'd really appreciate it if you would check it out, wishlist, and share with anyone else who you think might be interested! If you're interested in following along with the development of the game, you can check out the devlog on Medium. You can also follow along on Twitter, or join the Discord server to get notified whenever a new devlog article comes out. I also have an official website for the game.

  33. SynaMax's "remixes" were essentially re-creations of music from Metroid Prime, going as far as using the same hardware as Kenji Yamamoto. AFAIK, he wasn't doing the same type of interpretive, from-scratch arrangements that we do here. That may have factored into Nintendo's decision to contact him specifically. I haven't seen any instance of Nintendo contacting any other artist, so it's hard to agree with "Nintendo is going after remixes now." There's always the danger of a company like Nintendo coming down hard on fan communities. If Nintendo issues takedowns to us, then we'll have to figure out what to do when that happens. OCR very specifically doesn't allow submissions that sample the original game audio, but that might not mean much to Nintendo's legal team. There's an argument for Fair Use, but that's a legal defense that you present to a judge or jury, not a response you give to a Cease & Desist. As far as being concerned about being able to listen: once something is posted to the internet, it never truly leaves the internet. There are remixes that have been removed from this site that you can still download at various places. Nintendo has issued C&Ds against things like AM2R (the incredible Metroid 2 fan-remake) and you can absolutely still find those projects without too much effort. If Nintendo wants to play legal whack-a-mole, that's on them. When it comes to the music you'd like to remix and arrange: do what you want. Remix the hell out of Mario and Metroid and Zelda and Kirby if those are the soundtracks that inspire you. Even if the worst happens and we can't feature them on OCR anymore, that shouldn't stop you from making something.

  34. Hey everyone! Director of Arcadia Legends and the soon-to-be-released album for Jet Force Gemini: Mizar Attacks here! I've been approached to potentially take over direction of this album, possibly co-directed with another. However, nothing is set in stone at all and I'm looking to see what all has been done, what is left to go, what the full scope of the project is and most importantly: Is there still interest for all involved currently and in the past to continue with this album to completion? I'm proceeding forward with Mizar Attacks album release and potential physical edition negotiations, but after that, I can turn my attention to this album - but I'm sending out feelers, if you will, to see if this is feasible to pick up and finish. Let me know!

  35. Hello OCR! We have a very special remix contest happening this month over at dwellingofduels.net, involving crossover with OCRemix for the upcoming Final Fantasy III [NES] album! All entries for this month are encouraged to be submitted to OCR after the voting phase for consideration on this album, and will be fast-tracked through the OCR judging process! Any song from the FF3 soundtrack is allowed (note: this is the Japanese release of FF3 on NES, NOT the game known as FF3 in America which was for SNES). There are a few songs that are more 'preferable' from the soundtrack and do not currently have representation on the album: Crystal Cave Battle theme Crystal Room Opening Theme Return of the Warrior The Way to the Top Cute Little Tozas Sailing Enterprise Veggies of Geseal Castle of Hain The Requiem Swift Twist Good Ol' Fellows In the Covert Town Salonia Deep Under the Water The Invincible Forbidden Land The Dark Crystals What is Dwelling of Duels? 36. I hate to double-post myself, but there is some big news regarding album development. This album trilogy has had a history of collaborating with the Dwelling of Duels, and so, September 2020 is the OC ReMix Crossover FF3 Month! If you main a live instrument, go check it out - if you take part and you decide to send it to OCR's submissions queue, the evaluation will get fast-tracked. Any track from the game can be chosen, though there are still some uncovered spots on the OST (including some not even listed in the OP) that would be nice to have some representation. Talking of which - during this past month, @bluelighterhas made claims on not one, but two tracks! He has finished his take on "Crystal Tower" (with added usage for Tower of Owen), and is wrapping up an arrangement of "Ancient's Village" at this current moment. I am delighted to have a talented classical-inspired arranger jump in! If you're a potentially interested arranger, you're more than welcome to send a PM to me here on the forums or in the OCR Discord if you'd like to make a claim yourself outside of the DoD event. I wish all participants there the best of luck, and hype for some great tunes! x)

  38. OC ReMix presents Golden Sun: A World Reignited! June 30, 2020 Contact: press@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA... OverClocked ReMix today released its 74th free community arrangement album, Golden Sun: A World Reignited. Featuring 37 tracks from 42 musicians, A World Reignited pays tribute to Nintendo's classic Game Boy Advance RPGs Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age, and is led by first-time director Logan "TSori" Thomas. The album is available for free download at https://reignited.ocremix.org. A World Reignited assembles a large lineup of musicians interpreting Motoi Sakuraba's scores in a variety of styles across 2 1/2 hours of creative arrangements. A World Reignited was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Camelot or Nintendo; all images, characters, and original compositions are copyright their respective owners. With nearly 10 long years gone by since the last release from the Golden Sun franchise, A World Reignited allows fans of the series the opportunity to revisit and rekindle their memories exploring the world of Weyard through music with a heavy emphasis on live instruments. "This story of discovery, exotic locales, forgotten histories, hidden motivations, heroism, and desperation was beautifully embodied in Motoi Sakuraba's incredible soundtrack," noted album director Logan Thomas in appealing to the original games. "Take a new journey from the slopes of Mount Aleph to the shores of the Karagol Sea, from the depths of Madra Catacombs to the tops of the monolithic elemental lighthouses." The album's artwork -- a beautiful collage of the lighthouses of both GBA titles -- was designed by French illustrator Mikaël "Orioto" Aguirre, already well-known for his lush landscapes inspired by the Golden Sun series as well as other gaming classics. "Every single person involved went above and beyond what was expected," Thomas added. "The quality of this album and the rapidity with which it has been completed is a direct result of the talent and unyielding dedication of everyone involved." 39. **NOTE: Most of the discussion is taking place on a Discord Server, but regular project updates and claim/track status will continue to be posted here** Well, it’s been suggested a few times before, but this time it’s for real! Let's make it happen! Project Concept Golden Sun and Golden Sun: Lost Age, two games each representing half of a larger story, took gamers on an incredible journey through the rich and varied world of Weyard. Golden Sun saw you charged with the noble quest of preventing the destructive powers of Alchemy from being unleashed upon the world. Lost Age turned the tables as players found themselves in control of the first story’s antagonists, desperate to restore this ancient power. This story of discovery, exotic locales, forgotten histories, hidden motivations, heroism and desperation, was beautifully embodied in Motoi Sakuraba’s incredible soundtrack. Though it was well received by critics, Golden Sun never enjoyed the popularity of some of its other JRPG bretheren. Nevertheless, it continues to have a dedicated, and well-deserved fan-base. With the 20th anniversary of Golden Sun’s release coming up in in 2021, there could be no better time to bring this series and its music back into the light! This is where the bulk of the work will be! · Performers who are experienced with any type of instrument and have a high-quality recording setup. · If you're interested in contributing to one or more of the above areas, please get in touch with me. Claiming All remixers wishing to claim a track should PM me and/or post in the thread. We'll go from there. Once a track is claimed, an initial WIP deadline will be set. Deadlines are explained in more detail below. Be sure to check in at least once a month so we know you haven’t fallen off the edge of the map (see what I did there?). Genre Guidelines There is no basic genre one should adhere to when remixing tracks for the album but rather focus on a genre that would bring out the best in the track chosen. That gives remixers a lot of leeway in remixing a song the way they want with final product approved by Album leadership. Vocals in songs are also okay if implemented well. Using multiple source tunes from the soundtrack as fine, as long as the primary focus of the remix is on the core track list. The ultimate organization of the album will be done in such a way that "tells a story". Its my hope that a wide variety of remix styles will reflect a "journey" through a varied world. Collaborations are highly encouraged! Also, the intent is for this to be an official OCR album, so remixes must meet the appropriate standards. We have 3 OCR judges who have volunteered to be evaluators for completed remixes in order to ensure those standards are met. Deadlines *UPDATED 4/29/19* Given the quick pace with which everyone has been doing their remixes, the following NEW deadline structure is being instituted We are shooting for a release before January 15, 2020. All finished WAVS will be due no later that November 1, 2019. That should give us enough time to master and go through the release process with OCR. An initial WIP will still be due one month after your claim date (unless it runs past the final deadline). It just needs to show that you have started working so we can be confident that you intend to finish! Missing a deadline without communicating with the project director (for a month or more) could result in your claim being dropped! That said, life happens and we want this project to be the best that it can be! Stay in touch, and we will make it work! I'll be reaching out to everyone every 2 or 3 weeks to just check in too. Lets see if we can get this album out to the public in less than year! The Track List/Claims *UPDATED 4/29/19* Golden Sun/ Lost Age has an ENORMOUS soundtrack. For that reason, we’re focusing on just the first two entries of the series and excluding Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. If you’ve got an overpowering need to get something from Dark Dawn in here, PM me, we can talk bonus tracks, but let’s keep the focus on GS and GS:TLA Even with Dark Dawn excluded there are nearly 100 tracks in the soundtrack. I’ve tried to reduce it down to something more manageable, and now that we have a respectable number claimed, with WIPS, I am opening up claims on all remaining tracks. We will get as many as we can before the final deadline. [Fusion Dragon] ***Project Update - January 27, 2019*** I will be posting project updates like this on the 27th of every month (and likely more often). I decided I would do the first one as soon as we had a track claimed by someone other me. Thanks to Ganaé, now we do! Darkesword has also graciously offered his services as an evaluator once the WIPs start coming in. I've lengthened the WIP deadlines a bit. Also, in regards to track claims i plan to cut any unclaimed tracks 5 months after the original post was made. That's June 15th of 2019. Hopefully they will all be claimed well before then, but if not, I just don't want the project to end up dragging on and on because a couple tracks are still open. ***Project Update - February 2, 2019*** We are picking up some momentum now! It's my pleasure to welcome GuitarSVD, Ophanin, ThirdKoopa, Sam Dillard, and Glejs as remixers, as well as EarthKid, Sixto, and Guitar SVD as performers, and also Orioto as our art director! I have been talking with several other ReMixers who are making their track selections now. I expect we've got quite a few more claims right around the corner! (not bad for two weeks in!) *** Project Update - February 6, 2019 *** Well it's only been 4 days since the last update, but there has been so much happening in that 4 days its warranted. We now have an album title! Golden Sun: A World Reignited will breathe new life into the Golden sun franchise just as the elemental lighthouses did into Weyard. We also welcome remixers: Bluelighter, Deedubs, pu_freak, RebeccaETripp, Rotten Eggplant, and Silent Ice. Rotten Eggplant will be taking on the mastering role for the album Deedubs and Joseph Jung have also joined the album as performers We have had 16 of 36 tracks claimed and 6 WIPS submitted. We are building some incredible momentum and the first few WIPS are nothing short of fantastic. Look out OCR, Golden Sun: A World Reignited is headed your way! *** Project Update - February 17, 2019 *** This week saw a bit quieter progress as everyone has settled into working on their tracks.Even still, we have new WIPs from Bluelighter as well as my collab track with guitarSVD. We also welcome thevorace to the project with his claim of the Doom Dragon theme. That's 17/36 tracks claimed with more on the way! ***Project Update - February 27, 2019*** We welcome 3 more remixers to the project: djpretzel, Chernabogue, and StormSkuggan! djpretzel has also taken on the role of web designer for the project! That is all staff positions filled as well as 20/36 tracks claimed. Both boss battle grab bag slots have now been filled, so the boss battle claims are now closed until further notice. They will be re-opened after the remaining 16 tracks have been claimed. More claims to come! ***Project Update - March 11, 2019*** Two months into the project, and the WIPs are steadily rolling in. Reuben Spiers has joined the project, bumping up the list of claimed tracks to 22/36. Ophanin has also submitted our first completed remix, which is awaiting final evaluator approval. We're moving steadily forward! ***Project Update - March 19, 2019*** WIPs continue to trickle in steadily and we have two new claims! RebeccaETripp has claimed a second track after finishing her first arrangement, and we welcome Sbeast to the project with a claim of Mars Lighthouse! I've also renumbered the tracks to account for a combo remix of two of the core tracks and changed a couple of the names to match those currently listed on OCR. Only 12 tracks left on the core list. If you're reading this and thinking about claiming a track, there's no time like the present!! ***Project Update - March 27, 2019*** Another big week as several more fantastic WIPS have been submitted! The first large collab is coming together behind the scenes. Stay tuned! We also welcome 3 new remixers to the project, fxsnowy, Juke, and Starphoenix. That brings us to 26 claimed tracks, 18 of which have already had WIPs submitted! Only 9 unclaimed tracks left. Get 'em while they're hot! ***Project Update - April 6, 2019*** Alright, folks, we are now up to four finished tracks submitted!! FOUR!!! Not even 3 months into the album. Huge salute to Ophanin, Sam DIllard, and Deedubs for putting together some fantastic remixes, and really starting to give some shape to this album. We've got several other tracks close to completion and many more not far behind them. Keep up the good work everyone! ***Project Update - April 18, 2019*** It's been a little while since the last update. There's not a whole lot new to report at the moment, mainly everyone is still churning away at their remixes. We got Initial WIPs from both Chernabogue and Rebecca E Tripp (on her second remix for the album no less!). It also sounds like we have at least two more finished remixes in bound in the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye out for a deadlines/ claims restructuring (as well as a couple more source tunes) in another week! More updates to come soon! ***Project Update - April 29, 2019*** It'Apologies all, I was traveling for work and missed my usual 27th of the month update. This one is BIG though! First of all, things are progressing very well. we have 27 claimed tracks, and 25 with WIPs of some kind submitted. Wow. There are 5 complete, evaluated, and approved tracks , with a few others not far off at all. In fact things have been moving so smoothly and quickly that I've done a bit of a revamped to our claims process. ALL remixes now have a final deadline of October 1, 2019. I think it's very doable and it will allow us to get this album out THIS YEAR. I will still hold the current tracks to any checkpoints they have before then. Future claims will have a 1 month initial WIP deadline, but other than that, just the final deadline. Tracks will be added to the core list as they are claimed. Lets see how many we can get finished by October 1st (I'm hoping for 40). Additionally ALL grab bag tracks are open for claim again. I have also add a few NEW ones. ***Project Update - May 27th, 2019*** It's been a while since my last update. Life is busy these days but the project is continuing to charge forward! 744 has joined the project with a complete remix. That plus the remix guitarSVD and I have just completed bumps us up to 7 finished tracks. Orioto has also provided our first complete piece of art work as well as a concept drawing for the album cover and ideas for a third piece of artwork. Several remixers have submitted further developed WIPs and we continue to be on pace for an October final deadline. There are a lot of tracks still claimable above. Join the party! ***Project Update - June 17th, 2019*** It's time for another update, folks! Chernabogue has sent us complete track #8 and there are more coming! Deedubs, Ophanin, and Vylent have all jumped back in with another claim, brinigng the grand total up to 30! Can we make it to 40???? There are plenty of great tracks left! Also, I am pleased to announce that "Golden Sun: A World Reignited" is now an OFFICIAL OCR ALBUM PROJECT. Look out! The Golden Sun is rising! ***Project Update - July 1st, 2019*** Whoa! I completely forgot to post on the 27th.. I also forgot to call my dad on his birthday, but that's neither here nor there.... ANYWHO, we continue to take small steps forward on an almost daily basis. This is going to be a big month. There are a lot of tracks coming up on completion, the album cover art too! I'm pushing hard to recruit a few more remixers as well. I'd really like to see us get up to 35-40 tracks total. Also, We can't have a golden sun album without all the lighthouses claimed, right?? So, if you haven't claimed a track, jump on in. The water's great! If you have claimed one and you're close to finishing, think about grabbing another. Our final deadline for Finished WAVs is in 3 months!! (wow that is coming up fast), and we're still on schedule to deliver a great album this year! ***Project Update - July 5th, 2019*** Whell this update has come quickly, but we've had a big week! First of all Chernabogue an Stormskugan have given us our 9th and 10th complete tracks! We also welcome several new remixers! moonbike has claimed "Battle {Isaac] (finally, someone did), P2 Sue has jumped on board with a claim of "Wintery Imil", and Mordra will be giving us some Metal action with an arrangement of "Battle [non-adept]". Additionally, Stormskuggan has claimed his second track on the project, "The Second Book" (coincidentally enough), and I, in a moment of uncharacteristic productivity, was able to put together an arrangement of "Tolbi" yesterday. We also welcome new performers, GameroftheWinds, Piano Game Knight, and Psamathes. "Golden Sun: A World Reignited" continues to CHARGE forward to the October 1st deadline. Watch out OCR; this album will be here before you know it! ***Project Update - July 14th, 2019*** Bluelighter has given us our 11th remix AND 35th claim. We've also seen significant progress on a few WIPs including the album artwork this week! ***Project Update - July 29th, 2019*** Bluelighter's latest claim became our 12th finished remix this week (that was fast!), followed closely by #13, Vylent's take on "The final beacon". That's over a third of the currently claimed tracks! Several others are nearing completion and there are whispers of a couple more claims to round out the album as well. Our October 1st deadline draws closer, and the album just keeps looking better and better! ***Project Update - September 1st, 2019*** After a bit of a hiatus, as I moved across the U.S. for a job, We are back up and running. Not that anything has stopped while I was otherwise occupied. Orioto's album art is driving towards completion. Significant progress from Eladar, Stormskuggan, RebeccaETripp, and one of my tracks as well. Not to mention the addition of Rozovian to the project, with a claim of Mars lighthouse. Final deadline on WAVs is one month from today. Let's keep pushing! ***Project Update - September 6th, 2019*** Due to several messages I've gotten from individual artists, I've decided to push the deadline for the project back one month to November 1st. Let's make sure we dont have to push it back any further. keep at it everyone! we're getting close!!! ***Project Update - September 23rd, 2019*** It's been a busy past couple of weeks on the album. Bubblepipemedia has joined the project as our new mastering engineer. He's got some quality work to his name and I'm thrilled to have him on board. Orioto has just completed our album cover art!!!! with a logo designed by djpretzel!!! Our website and trailer are also underway. Eladar has given us our 20th finished track for the album, and there are more coming. We're into the final stretch now guys! Finish those tracks and we'll have incredible album for the OCR front page soon enough. ***Project Update - October 3rd, 2019*** 29 Days Left!! ***Project Update - October 13th, 2019*** Alright, folks, we are in the final stretch! We've got 19 days left til our final deadline on all tracks. We're still at 20 completed tracks but there are at least 10 more that are imminent. Almost all of the remaining tracks are showing significant progress towards completion. Our mastering engineer, bubblepipemedia has made major strides this week in creating a model for our mastering to follow and We've already got 5 tracks fully mastered and approved with several others right around the corner. Album artwork is complete, the website is underway, and we are getting started on the trailer as well. We're in good shape for this deadline and the goal of delivering a high quality album from initial post to release in ONE calendar year. If you aren't already, get hyped! Golden Sun: A World Reignited is sounding great! ***Project Update - October 18th, 2019*** 2 WEEKS REMAIN!! That's right, everyone, our final deadline is fast approaching. To be precise, the final deadline will be 12:00 AM November 2nd U.S. Pacific Time (UTC-8). Please have your final tracks uploaded and submitted to me by then. They do not have to have been evaluated yet. Tracks that are not ready by then are very likely to be dropped from the album! That said, We still have quite a few tracks unfinished but they are all nearing completion! Let's get them done! If you have finished your track, I still have a few things I need you to do: 1. sign the consent form on our club page and let me know when you do (or if you don't know where to find it, message me) 2. Send me your artist commentary for each of your tracks. 3. If you had collaborators, please send me their names (as they should appear on the album), and let me know what instrument/role they played on your track. ***Project Update - October 25th, 2019*** 1 WEEK no pressure.... We've been making a lot of headway the past week. We still have 13 remixes that have yet to be submitted, though most of them are very close. Let's finish this strong! Also be sure to sign the consent form and let me know! ***Project Update - October 27th, 2019*** ReMixers, don't forget to sign the Consent Form. If you did any collaborations, please make sure all your performers have signed it as well!! 5 more days! ***Project Update - October 28th, 2019*** Thanks for the laugh, Eladar ***Project Update - November 2nd, 2019*** Ok, our target deadline for final remixes has past! Overall, good show everyone. There was a sudden rush of remixes in the last few days taking us up to 30 tracks submitted!! 7 tracks have yet to be turned in. 6 of those are extremely close to completion. I have heard near finished WIPs of each and all of the remixers involved have been in regular communication. I'm confident they will all be finished before we have a chance to get through mastering the others that have already been submitted. We will send in the album as soon as all submitted tracks have been mastered (which means those that have extensions right now could still get left behind if they take more than a couple weeks. Keep at it!). 2 tracks were dropped from the album, Jenna's battle theme , and the Non-adept battle theme. Hopefully both of those remixers will be able to finish their tracks sometime in the future and submit them to OCR independently. If you finished your remixes by the deadline, thank you very much! It makes a HUGE difference going forward to have all of those turned in for evaluation. If you have an extension, no worries, just keep going!. Over the next week, everyone can expect me to be contacting you about: -Signing the consent form -artist commentary -credits for collabs Great work everyone, we have a fantastic album here and it is nearly finished. Let's push through the last few steps!! ***Project Update - November 11th, 2019*** Here we are , one week, after the deadline, and things are looking good! This week we have had several more remixes get through initial evaluation. We had 6 remixes that were given brief extensions last week. 2 have been submitted and a both approved. The next 3 are all extremely close to being finished. Bubble pipe media mastered 7 more remixes for us this week, giving us more than a third of the album completely finished. The documentation for submission to OCR for eval is also very near complete. We could very reasonably submit this album in the next week or so. We have some mastering left to do, and a few tracks that are still being adjusted based on evaluation. So if your track has yet to be submitted or is still needing a bit of rework, let's push on through to the end. The finish line is within sight! ***Project Update - November 18th, 2019*** Well, everything is still looking pretty great!! We are up to 19 mastered tracks and more are approved and waiting to be mastered!. We have only 5 outstanding remixes left: two under revision based on eval, 2 finishing up the last few details before submission, and 1 more which is a bit of a mystery. While we aren't there yet, it is worth noting that these 5 tracks are at risk of getting dropped. We still have a good bit of mastering to do before we are ready to submit for OCR eval, but once we have everything else mastered, any tracks that aren't approved are going to get dropped, unless there is a very good reason to wait. So, if you have one of those tracks, you still have some time, but the clock is ticking! Overall, though this album is moving at the speed of light and it is sounding incredible! I cant wait for us to show it to the rest of OCR!! Keep the momentum going in the final stretch! ***Project Update - November 30th, 2019*** Its been a busy week. The finish line draws ever closer! We are now up to 26 mastered tracks! There are 7 more that are approved and waiting to be mastered and 3 more finishing up evaluation. All of our evaluation submission documentation and artwork is ready. We are still collecting track commentary, so if you haven't written that yet, now's a great time to get started! As soon as these 36 tracks are mastered we will be submitting the album! Get hyped! Submission will be happening any day now! ***Project Update - December 13th, 2019*** Ok foks, all tracks all submitted WIPs are approved! We have 4 tracks in mastering right now, waiting for artist approval and then 4 more to go after that. All documentation is ready. All artwork is ready. Keep the artist commentary coming. the Golden Sun is about to rise! ***Project Update - December 20th, 2019*** "Golden Sun: A World Reignited" has been submitted to OCR! Well done everyone! We went from absolutely nothing, to a 37 track album submitted in 11 months and 6 days. Take a moment to pat yourselves on the back for all your hard work. There is still more to be done during the eval process so it'll be a little while longer before we get to share this album with the community, but I'll be keeping you updated! First orders of business now that we've submitted: 1. If you have any commentary yet to be written, lets try to take care of that soon. 2. We will be putting together a list of mixflood candidates. I'm going to handle that through discord, but if you're on the album, not on discord and don't get a message from me about it soon, PM me! ***Project Update - January 3, 2020*** Happy New year everyone! Now that the holiday season is coming to a close, I thought I'd put up a couple updates and to-dos as we get closer to release: 1. As expected, owing to the holiday season and MAGfest there hasn't been any eval activity on the album yet. We do, however, know it was received and it's there waiting when the staff can get to it. 2. For artists on the album, the mixpost candidate survey is still up. You should have received either a DM from me or been tagged on discord with a link to instructions. We have 6 responses so far, which is great, but I'd like to have several more before we close the survey on January, 8th 3. Other than the mixpost candidates, any tracks that we want to see posted on the front page must be submitted through the Normal Submission process. So if you want to submit your track to OCR feel free to do so now! - if you want to submit your track you can use your final version of the final bubblepipemedia-mastered version on the album. either is fine. . -Make sure you mention in your submission email that this is part of the Golden Sun: A World Reignited album, so we don't release anything too early (unlikely but possible) more updates to follow! ***Project Update - January 17, 2020*** A small but good update today. I just got word from the OCR staff letting me know that eval is underway and so far its going well! Don't forget to submit you individual tracks and send me your track commentary if you haven't already. It won't be too much longer now! ***Project Update - January 29, 2020*** Just letting everyone know eval is still going. So far so good! We can expect to hear back once the judges have finished. ***Project Update - February 13, 2020*** Eval continues! So far, so good. Jose the Bronx Rican has also informed me he has started work on our trailer. I"m also working with the OCR staff to get this album out the gates as soon as possible. Hopefully it won't be too much longer. Stay tuned for more updates! ***Project Update - February 17, 2020*** Hey folks! Things are moving now. This is the last call for track commentary. If you are planning to send in any commentary but haven't done so yet, please do so by the end of the week. We have gotten just a few comments about track fixes. I'll DM you directly if there are any requested fixes on your tracks. On the whole though, the judges seem very pleased with the album so far. Both MindWanderer and djpretzel have had very nice things to say about it. ***Project Update - March 2, 2020*** FIrst WIP for the trailer is in! Judges comments are coming together! Commentary is finished. djp's remix is all but finished. We're getting close guys! I promise! ***Project Update - March 18, 2020*** We live in interesting times. As you might imagine, the pandemic has slowed things down a bit. Nevertheless. We are very close to completing eval. The trailer is well underway. We should have judge feedback soon. Our late addition remix by djp is very nearly complete. The website is also coming together. Hang in there all. It won't be too much longer ***Project Update - April 9, 2020*** Like everything else right now, activity has slowed on the album, BUT it is still happening moving! We have a significant WIP of the trailer. Despite our seemingly asymptotic approach to eval completion, I'm sure we will get there before too much longer. Hang in there, everyone! ***Project Update - April 18, 2020*** Im thrilled to be able to announce the addition of our 37th and final finished track! As per unofficial OCR tradition djpretzel has given us a pretty sick remix to wrap up the album. Eval continues, and we get ever closer to the musical return of Golden Sun ***Project Update - May 6, 2020*** Ahh finally, a nice BIG update for everyone! Eval is COMPLETE and the album passed!!! Congrats al! Now we can move onto final preparations for release! The trailer is coming together very well now, and the website is well under way. What we have left to do are: -Tweaks to any tracks that need them (just a couple) -Export all files as mp3 and flac -Proper mp3 tagging -Finish up php files for the website. We'll get there! ***Project Update - June 3, 2020*** I've been saying this is close for months. And it has been. its been a very slow process of eeking forward a little bit of time Still we are very very close Left to do: 1. wrap up the website (djp is making progress) 2. Finish the trailer (Jose the Bronx Rican is down to the final sequence) That's it! Seriously. We are that close. ***Project Update - June 16, 2020*** All hands on deck! At long last, the finish line is in sight. Jose the Bronx Rican has put together a fantastic trailer for us which will be released later today. The release of the album will follow next week sometime between Monday and Thursday though a solid date is not yet finalized. What this all means, is its time to build some more hype!! Know any fan communities that would take interest? Get in touch with them. If there other groups, individuals, youtubers, that can help spread the word, now is the time to reach out. Whether you're a remixer on the album, or just following the project, now is the chance for everyone to pitch in and help this album make some serious waves in larger gaming community. ***Project Update - June 29, 2020*** The day has finally come! Overclocked Remix will be releasing this album TOMORROW! It has been a long jounrey to get here, one I'm thrilled to have been a part of! I want to thank all of the OCR staff who've helped make this possible, djpretzel, Liontamer, Jose the Bronx Rican, Mindwanderer, TheoryofN and all of the other judges and staff. Most of all though, I want thank all of the Remixers and Artists on the album. This has been a true group effort from start to finish and, the end result is nothing short of fantastic.! It's been a pleasure to work with all of you! You all have a lot to be proud of. The trailer has racked up a huge number of views in a very short time. We've been retweeted hundreds of times, and the album has already been mentioned on several gaming news websites in multiple languages. Guys, this is going to be big! I can feel it. I can't wait for everyone to hear the results of all the hard work that went into our album. Just a few more hours to go!

  40. OC ReMix presents Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma! December 19, 2019 Contact: press@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA... OverClocked ReMix today released its 72nd free community arrangement album, Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma. Featuring 31 tracks from 61 artists, Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma celebrates both the soundtrack and today's 23rd anniversary of Terranigma's European Super Nintendo release, and is directed by Jorrith "Jorito" Schaap and Troy "Trism" Plain. The album is available for free download at https://terranigma.ocremix.org. This 3-disc release features a deep roster of musicians interpreting Miyoko Takaoka and Masanori Hikichi's atypical and thought-provoking RPG score with more than 2 hours of arrangements. Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Quintet, Kamui Fujiwara, or Square Enix; all images, characters, and original compositions are copyright their respective owners. "This has been quite the experience," album co-director Troy Plain affirmed. "Three years and one hiatus in the making and it's finally here. I really hope you, the listener, enjoy this smorgasbord of different genres and interpretations of some truly amazing source music. Now; what to choose for Paths Less Travelled vol. 2..." Terranigma represents the inaugural album of OCR's new Paths Less Travelled series, an endeavor that will focus on the soundtracks of overlooked and lesser-known RPGs. The Paths Less Travelled concept was initially developed by the album's visual artist, the UK-based David "Odai" Owen, himself a veteran visual contributor in the OC ReMix community. "Every single contributor to the album has reflected stellar work on every track, and it proves to be a truly eclectic triple-album that pays homage to what I consider to be one of the very best unsung computer games of all time," declared Owen regarding the initial Paths Less Travelled installment. Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma also marks Jorrith Schaap's third directorial effort for OC ReMix, including 2017's Resonance of the Pure Land, an extensive musical tribute to Hiroki Kikuta's score for the popular and recently remade SNES RPG Secret of Mana. Having contributed multiple pieces to OCR's 2018 album Hometown Heroes: Town Themes Arranged -- including entries from the Suikoden, Legend of Heroes, and Dragon Slayer series -- Jorito is also no stranger to arranging music from more obscure RPGs like Terranigma. "After finally playing the game, the tracks, and their context, make a lot of sense, because they are all very well chosen and perfectly crafted for the occasion," explained album co-director Schaap. "The game is definitely worth a play, as one of the great SNES RPGs; if you haven't done so, do check it out." 42. Get the hell out of my thread. I have no idea what your problem is or what the hell is wrong with you but I was actually seriously pursuing this idea. If you read my first post, and the discussion that followed, you could see that we were actually seriously discussing this concept, which was much different from the other thread, the point of which you also missed. If somebody is asking a question on a forum, saying "hurr durr just google it noob" doesn't actually do anything. It's 2019. No shit people can google things. I can google "daw based on sheet music" to see if there's anything out there. Do you know what comes up? Not much. Stuff on Reaper's notation feature (which is not a DAW based on sheet music), and other similarly related things that aren't actually helpful to what I am looking for. I'm a professional musician (studio musician) with a degree in music composition. I am most comfortable working with music notation. A DAW based on notation would save me a lot of time by cutting out the middleman of having to use a notation software and a DAW. Somebody asking for a DAW based on notation probably knows how to read sheet music. Do you know what is helpful? @Dextastic mentioning Overture 5, which most of us had never heard of, and which seems to fit the bill closer than anything else. Asking a question on a forum brings a human element that interprets the question and answers in ways that google just simply doesn't. Do you know what wasn't helpful? You, at all. "Please use google if you want to use a DAW based on sheet music instead of a piano roll. It is too complicated to explain here, of all places. " I fail to see the relevance of this to the original thread. Nowhere ANYWHERE did the OP ask about a daw based around sheet music. I saw this comment and was curious if it existed so I started a new thread (see how the topic was different so I started a new thread?). Keep your bulllshit away from these discussions.

  43. I love coming back to check the OCR forums once every 6 years and still the same debates are going on. Just enjoy making music, no point in trying to justify it, or find some kind of deeper meaning or value in it, just have fun.

  44. GUESS WHAT Y'ALL?! ALL tracks are now finished and turned in. Sure we got two remaining tracks to master, but the bigger point here is this: We have a FULL and COMPLETE 36 track, 3-disc album finished on our hands! Now is the time to finish up any last minute admin stuff, designing the website, working with OCR on trailer creation and setting a release date around Christmas of this year to hopefully still land within the 15th anniversary year of Skies of Arcadia: Legends release! To top it off, we are working with DJPretzel himself to see if we can get a limited run print of physical copies of this album! Every contributor will get about 2 copies (One for themselves and one to share), while the rest will be handed out as promos and prizes/gifts free at Magfest and other events that OCRemix attends. There won't be any other way to snag these puppies if you weren't contributing, so another reason to come out to these fantastic events and meet OCR staff in person in hopes that you might get one of these beauties. More words to follow on that part. I'm just jazzed that it's all done and now it is time to clean up and get this out there to you! Now without further adieu, The final track list which also has been updated on the first post of this thread: Disc 1 - Defend the Home Isle 01 - Main Theme (Title Screen) - Claimed by pu_freak - Genre: Orchestral/Piano - 'The Voyage Begins' 02 - Vyse's Theme - Claimed by SBeast - Genre: Metal - 'Legend in the Making' 03 - Blue Pirate's Theme/Ship (combo track) - Clamed by OA - Genre: Rock/Dance - 'Blue Skies, Pirate Surprise' 04 - Air Pirate Island - Claimed by Ganae - Genre: Orchestral - 'Rogue Sanctuary' 05 - Air Pirate Secret Base - Claimed by Silent Ice - Genre: Dubstep Reggae - 'Secret Bass' 06 - Dungeon Cave - Claimed by Orphanin - Genre: Orchestral - 'Into the Deep Dark' 07 - Battle 1/Battle 2 (combo track) - Claimed by fxsnowy - Genre: Dubstep - 'Arcadian Assault' 08 - Victory in Battle / Bombardment Victory (combo track) - Claimed by GlacialSpoon - Genre: Techno - 'Victory! 45. Hey guys. As you can see, this is my first post here as I just created the account, but I've been with OCRemix for quite some time. Though I didn't have the use for my account here, after what happened recently I decided to create my account and create a post about it... As some of you may know bLiNd and his great works in music industry, whether in game remixes or his sole tracks that he's created - he's a musician to the bone and by heart! Every track of his is special. In fact, he was the one that invited me into game remixes. And recently I have found that he went through a lifebreaking incident - his whole home has been damaged in fire that broke out and he lost not only his place to live, but also pets and his way of living - musical equipment... So I decided to create a post in the forum, as for some of you guys you may have know him, if you can or know someone that can as well back him up - please do so. We can't let Jordan's faith go away! This is the link to the fundraiser that Jordan started - https://www.gofundme.com/aguirre-fire-fund If you feel that his post is somewhat inappropriate, please do as you see fit with it. I have absolutely no interest or any gains in this, other than Jordan's well-being and getting him back on his feet. I thought about this forum as a first thing I could go on, because this is the place I first met Jordan on and thought of you guys... I will thank backers in my stead, as Jordan is not aware of this post - so each and every backer has my own personal - thank you! Though it may not mean much, I really appreciate everyone's help!

With this, every single track has been claimed and we are already mastering the finished tracks and as of this posting, 4 are completed and marked finished! We are well on our way of making this huge album a reality hopefully sometime later this year! Get excited Arcadia fans!

  47. OC ReMix Announces Official 501c3 Non-Profit Status as Project of Game Music Initiative, Inc November 24th, 2017 Contact: press@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA... OverClocked ReMix today announced its status as a fully-sponsored project of Game Music Initiative, Inc (GMI), a newly-formed 501c3 non-profit charitable organization devoted to the promotion of video game music as an art form. Established on November 26th, 2016, the mission of GMI is as follows: EDUCATE the world about game music as an art form, PROMOTE game music and game composers, RESEARCH game music and contribute to the body of free and open knowledge, PRESERVE the history of game music and archive relevant artifacts, PROVIDE resources for existing and aspiring game composers, PROTECT the right to explore game music through transformative works and assistive technologies, and SUPPORT any projects that advance these goals. OverClocked ReMix founder David W. Lloyd expressed his enthusiasm about this development and the need for such a transition: "For seventeen years, OverClocked ReMix has been a community effort, but has been owned by a single individual, myself, and not officially registered as a 501c3 charitable organization. Game Music Initiative was created to support this project, and others like it in the future, and provides permanent assurance of non-profit status while also enhancing financial transparency & operational continuity," Mr. Lloyd noted. "This transition paves the way for exciting developments ahead, makes all donations from US citizens tax deductible, and builds on the foundation of trust and long-term commitment that OC ReMix has developed since 1999." More information about GMI, including its board of directors, can be found at https://gamemusic.org. An FAQ is available and will be updated to address any questions surrounding this change of status. 48. You know, I almost entirely forgot about this. It's...it's been a long year. That said, I'll be ready to build the new page and update the site. Though, to be honest, it's really time to update the design, too. I've been rather lax with it. Maybe I'll add a sidebar. Maybe not... Anyway, It'll be fun to post the project again this year. I'm looking forward to it.

  49. I have to go to work and I don't want to delay things any further. I also want to look at my results and feedback so I need to post this now haha. Just consider me disqualified! Good job to everyone this round. You guys really put something special up 1st. Waiting for the Pounce - The Voudou Queen Haha, what a start to the track! I am always enamored by those who can sample quotes and lines from things and add them into music. It's not a skill I have or something currently used in my minds eye. I'm honestly not personally keen on the musicality of the opening part but that's really 100% a personal preference thing. I appreciate the heck out of it But once it gets into the groove of things. Yo... This is an actual Halloween party vibe. Like there is some real good melodic stuff going on and the chords are really effective. I think sometimes I want more. Like right before the last section there is some real fun and groovy chord progressions. Id love if it was expanded, had some like keyboard solos (like just runs and such) and maybe with some vibrato added in there just for funs sake. Like it's a whole groove and I think if it was dug into, I could dance all night long! The last section is very effective at what it does, like the first I think I am not one to comment too deeply because it's not my vibe but I do appreciate it and think it works. All and all, I really really think this was a great effort. You should be proud of what came out of it. I only wish the middle was expanded on, there were some more fun chord progressions, and maybe some more playful dynamics as well. Great job! 2nd. Aeterni Inferni - Wassup Thunder Oooh that low synth hits really well. I'm enjoying it. The effects are really interesting as well. There was a modulation in the middle of the song and I'm not familiar with the source so I'm unsure if you added it or not (edit: seems like it's there in the original too) but I actually dig it. Personally I think I would have gone for a major modulation or at least something brighter like a minor 7th but that's my taste. I enjoy the building of this overall. It's like I get to enjoy something new every few bars or so. It's always adding something. I think I wished for some more impact here and there but I think that's okay. Really I think what it needs was some shift in dynamics here and there. Something I struggle with when making music. The ending climax was very welcome though. That ending little effect there too! This really captured Halloween for me. I only wish that it had some more play with the sound field to really give the ears a treat (or a trick!) 3rd. Rites of Autumn - Colorado Weeks Oh what is this? Now that's some spooky crap. There is like some kind of odd polyphony going on here. Almost like two different keys are being played it. Like it seems consonant but there is also something highly dissonant about this. I cannot put my finger on it. I think it's a bit too short or not expansive enough but I do think it was effective at being both spooky but somehow... Celebratory? It is the rites of autumn I suppose so it should have that celebratory feel. However whatever they are celebrating is spooky as all hell! I'm creeped out and I think that's a good thing. Good job here haha. I only wish that there was some more variety or another section to explore these rites! Very curious indeed 4th. That Desolate Field - Souperion o___o;;; lord you guys are creeping me out haha. This is really reflective of something you'd hear in one of the Ghost in the Shell movies. Have you ever heard of any of them? I think you'd find some interesting inspiration there. The middle was a bit surprising with the shakuhachi. Like I knew there would be one but it caught me off guard. Here I think the problem for me is the song from a listening standpoint is a bit long. If this was for a scene for a movie I think this would fit but somehow for me it goes on a bit too long without offering much new as it continues to go. Overall though it is certainly interesting. You can send your sister this message from me! 俳句を読んでくれて、ありがとうございます!お兄さんの作曲に不思議な雰囲気を加えました! 5th. What Lurks Below - Kat I really wish I got to hear a more complete version of this.. It has a lot of interesting things that I'd like to get to know how to do personally or at the very least to identify the sound. I think it has this sort of clown or carnival kind of feel without being silly. Like it's not exactly scary but a bit unnerving. I'm unsure how to put it exactly. I think the guitars are really good here. The mixing seems to be a bit uhh chunky but I think it's because of how I'm listening to it and less so the mix itself. Still I think it could use some breath. Overall, this is good but I wish there was more! 6th. Austrian Spinal - General Grunt Oh lord. A polka? Hahaha, I can't say... It's my thing. But I think it does the polka well. It's a bit too little in terms of expansion is concerned and doesn't have enough to really keep my head in it, but I think what you went for you were successful in getting. Again, uhh, not a polka fan but it did right by the polka lol. I think though if it had more layers and some polyphony it could go beyond even polka lovers and into something even the polka haters would love. Darn those polka haters! 7th. The Mandela Effect - APZX Hm.. I think it's just too much here. I believe in your story and your vision. I think what you wanted to do was accomplished but it's a lot to ask for the listener and a lot to take in. That's not always a big deal to me. One of my favorite songs is a 50 minute mix of different tracks and vibes of 80s Japan. I think here however from a listening perspective it really wasn't effective for enjoying. However, I think as a piece of art, I'd disagree with myself. You really set it apart by not only length but the depth and effort for you to put in. For that, I have to applaud you. Still, I don't think it was... A great choice for the competition given the meat n potatoes aspect and from a personal listening perspective it isn't my thing. But, props to you for creating something special. Take a bow!
