  1. Its not terrible until its terrible, people. You never know, it might surprise you.
  2. I just want to comment in a genuine tone that I've never seen a web community this large that is so open to inviting such a mass of total strangers worldwide and be this serious on attending. It blows my mind. I won't even let my mom into my apartment and you'd take in any lout from the internet who could conceivably get there for a big party. Even me if I knew how to drive cross-country. Its frightening and awesome at the same time. Wow.
  3. Its still up on my Myspace page, which you can find on my artist profile page under REFERENCES I think. You can message me if you have additional comments you feel compelled to make or you would like to discuss it to any degree. I would not like to discuss it any further here for the public to see as it might jeopardize what little artistic credibility I might have. Even if Larry is ok with it, I am not. I will not be known as a remixer who gets "butthurt" or "blow shit out of proportion" every time he comes up short with a track. I am not a baby and I will not be portrayed as one in this ironically young stage of my artistic entity. All it takes is one little thing like this to reflect poorly on me and corrupt my standing with the judges and build another awful reputation I don't have time or tools to fix. I'd much rather be portrayed as an obsessive perfectionist than another damn HoboKa any day of the week. That is my position and my final words on the matter. Any one else can discuss it with me anywhere in private. Also, Gario, if that link doesn't work or something, I'll find another place to host it for you.
  4. I'm not feeling anything other than wondering how the hell this topic exploded out of proportion. At one point I spoke up on the polarizing and somewhat frustrating suggestions and the next thing I know its become a damn debate and a plea for attention that I did not build. My concern now that Larry's here and Jimmy's spoken up a whole bunch (all we're missing now is Palp) is that if I go through the motion to fix and submit and have it accepted, is it a fair review? What does it mean not only to have to bother the judges for my first submission but waste their time extracurricularly for the SECOND one too? We have a term for that sort of thing where I work. Its called "conflict of interest" - and now the precedent is setting where I need to follow a rejection-whinefest-resubmit to get anything done as opposed to working on my own effort. This is WIP is no longer subject to fair judicial review and likely will not be considered for overhaul in some time. This topic is closed.
  5. I'm dropping by and saying Hi again. What are you to these days?

  6. I gotta be honest, none of those programs really sounded great to me. A sound generator, in my limited experience, does not make for great sound effects. Here, see if you can find something useful out of this: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sound_samples
  7. Who the hell suggested Money for Nothing? If you're going to go Dire Straits and keyboard, you need WALK OF LIFE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_lfqKbOvTk Also, and God forgive for this cheese marathon, but also consider this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY2WxSNuU_8
  8. Take a look at this topic, man. I gotta buy a church choir to be able to fix the vox? I gotta buy a $100 microphone so I can get a better clap? The lead is somehow too loud and not loud enough? The arrangement is fine but also almost all of it needs to change? I can't do anything with this. I appreciate the criticisms but at some point I got to speak up and say expectations are unrealistic and bordering on ridiculous. There is no one point anyone seems to agree on except for the fake choir which isn't bad but apparently requires me to pay $800 for the Roman church plus recording costs plus engineering costs just because what I have, which is largely identical to what was used in Prime, is just a little too fake. I mean, c'mon now.
  9. Living up to its name so far what with my trying to fix it and this sideshow...
  10. At least 50% source is the name of the game. And don't think you can fool Larry...
  11. Ok then. I really wasn't aware Shadowman had a huge cult following or anything.
  12. Oh, I actually know this song! Is this it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxbPH4lPrXc
  13. Keeping in mind the following question is directed with a tonality of respect and, despite its wording, is not meant to be considered rude at all, just curious in response to the way it is described but..... What exactly is your point to do so? I suppose it would serve a purpose for us as we can always use more industry insight on production - name dropping, techniques used, maybe even more. But apart from that I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Shadowman is not the most memorable game from a gaming era that is not very memorable anyway, although I reread about it just two days ago as I perused my old magazines. I'm just not sure exactly what this topic means to serve.
  14. A lot of this I've already touched on. I'm not going to be changing the central pillar of the song for a number of reasons all relating to time, energy and reinventing the wheel. The best I can really do right now is fix the mixing, eliminate whatever is too "repetitive", and fix the garnishing. My reasoning for this, because I plan on having at least a modest career here as a remixer, is I don't want to set a precedent for my tracks. I don't want formula-based arrangement, trademark crests and swells, etc. etc. I want to do that which is not predictable yet still working for an arrangement and that, at least, I feel I have accomplished here. What I epic-failed at was mixing and keeping it interesting. You've got some good pointers here, but I'd like it even more if you could show me what you mean by "more realistic" "diversify", because those terms are virtually useless in mixing without instructions like "raise the LFO filter by 2 or 3" "knock up the EQ at about 9,000 Hz" etc. It might be a while before I get a chance to go back and fix it, but keep your comments coming. I'm saving all notes in a folder.
  15. I don't know how I feel about this topic. I know I shouldn't complain, but man, what was the point here?
  16. The problem with doing that is it defeats the whole purpose of making it a fun little cameo to capitalize on the whole concept of the mix. That was the whole point of putting it in, a fun little surprise for the end. A fair point, which is why it doesn't completely deliver as a full on Metroid Prime take in execution, however I really didn't think it would come off too repetitive. I kept it sequenced simply for a reason - mostly because it is just easier to do it that way but also because I didn't want to set a precedent with my mixes and fall into trademarks - like my pechant for building crests and meandering song structures and cymbal crashes, etc like I did with Yggdrasil. I wanted to sequence this way on purpose because its not a song structure I usually do. Well, the perspective needs to change, but I'm afraid to fuck with it too much as is because Larry's pretty microscopic on source tune and because I'm sure it will ruin the track. I can probably fit some more stuff in and around the track, but the central pillar needs to stay. Mostly I'd like to know exactly WHAT is repetitive that needs to be changed or taken out. The clap I'm already aware of, what else? Also, I appreciate the effort with the title suggestions, but none of those really appeal, especially since I already having a mix called "Yggdrasil Speaks To Me" which is structurally the same as your suggestion. I appreciate it all the same.
  17. The project and video actually have some serious potential to them, but I'm weary about projects that openly and complexly play with copyrighted characters. I'm not familiar with Infinity Mugen (Dr. Doctor?) or Capcom's C&D history so I don't know really what to think here.
  18. Before this gets any further, I just want to emphasize that this is not a Judge-bashing thread by any means, I just didn't understand their criticisms, but I hope to address them anyway.
  19. Update: 9/3/09 I have decided to remove this WIP link and information regarding it as I no longer consider it material for fair judicial review. Thank you.
  20. Remove my name. MAGfest is definitely out for me.
  21. New stuff! Anyone remember Xenosaga? Of course you do. Did you ever play it? Hell no, but you know people that did. You missed out, fool. Yasunori Mitsuda did the first game and returned with Joanne Hogg to do the Image songs. The ending one was great, but not very Celtic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLWTqgifEOE&feature=related - Kororo Strangely enough, Joanne Hogg somehow got to do her own version for her Christian band and the results are just as Celtic and amazing (One wonders who was really in charge of the arranging then) - Joanne HoggBut even more baffling - I've seen people outright dismiss Xenosaga II and III's soundtracks for not having mighty Mitsuda, but the results without him are even better. Check this shit out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFv9b4C2re4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwaX_TGlLKs Also, here are a couple vids from Afro-Celt Sound system which is on Peter Gabriel's label (or was or whatever).
  22. http://www.movietome.com/infocus/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=841237 SPOILERS It was great up until Mario's third nipple...
  23. Its the Barbecue That Will Never Happen 2009. jp, Bahamut.
  24. I've only played through X ONCE. How ridiculous. Course I don't actually own the game and even though I found much to enjoy on its own merits, it still doesn't feel like Final Fantasy to me, so I won't lament too much of it. I really loved how they fucked with the battle system occasionally though. FFXII would've made a much better Secret of Mana game. The gameplay was really addictive, but I couldn't take the whole Star-Wars-in-the-Desert thing. It was also WAY too long and involved. That one game will eat years of your life.
