EGM to be resurrected... and now it has been

I don't understand. -
How big is YOUR game collection?
Meteo Xavier replied to WolfenAmphithere's topic in General Discussion
I think I still have over 90, but I sold a whole bunch and I'm probably not going to buy many more. It just seemed pointless to keep blowing money on titles I'll eiter play once every few years or not at all. The ONE game I always wanted but was never able to get was a cart of Mega Man 7. -
EGM to be resurrected... and now it has been
Meteo Xavier replied to The Coop's topic in General Discussion
Talk about out of the blue. I thought Steve Harris was dead. And anyway, I actually won't be too happy to the see the magazine come back for several reasons: 1. I was letter of the month November 2009 (or October 2009, whichever) and I still haven't gotten the game they owe me. 2. I have 400 lbs of magazines as it is and I can't throw any away. I'm running out of time and space. 3. I still don't fucking know who Sushi-X was and I want the matter to die with the magazine. Edit: Silly me, I still consider September the start of the year. I mean November/October 2008. -
Dragon Quest always emphasizes gameplay over character-story development. Less so than earlier, but thats definitely why there are laws forbidding its release on anything other than a holiday.

Well, if you're looking for ways to free up space, you could get rid of whatever's on the index page thats been causing the site to come up very slowly for me for the last couple months. I totally mean that as a joke, btw, but wouldn't complain if you did.

Soundtracks you didn't know were stolen

You'd shut'chure mouth if-ya-nu-what-was-gud-forya! - Dumb and Dumber. -
Boy, if you thought DQVIII was bad, check out DQVII. You don't fight a battle for the first 3 hours. And thats just the the first 1/40th of the game. Also, you completely misunderstand Dragon Quest. The entire appeal of that game is TRADITION. It's intentionally difficult and ridiculous and doesn't care what you think. Its like a David Lynch JRPG, except its so successful that it completely gets away with its "I do whatever the hell I want and make you like it." approach.

Need Help with New Age/Ambient song I'm doing
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Ok, well I am taking all these comments to heart as I wrestle with this ridiculous WIP. I have a new, seemingly more improved version here: http://www.savefile.com/files/2114932. It has more balance and more fluid to the sound. I'm actually thinking of keeping the ending as is in its structure because it feels more like dreaming and waking up kinda. What else can I do to really improve this, what else isn't right? How else can I make it sound more professional? Also, really, thanks again. I have a lot resting on this track and I REALLY needed some idea of what I'm doing with it. Thanks again! -

In all fairness, please take a step back and literally fuck your own face* as my comment did not warrant a response like that and I do not appreciate it. What does a VG soundtrack have to do with advertising production costs? All I'm saying is, if the average advertiser is thinking "Wait, why am I spending the kind of money I could buy a house with for 30-60 seconds of music that does little more than garnish the advertisement when $300 could buy a simple custom-made tune that does the same job?" then I could totally see that. Some people charge just charge way too much for what they're actually worth, and sometimes undercutting is just a natural economic reaction/decision and not a screw-job. I want to make money off my creative property too, but I'm not pulling a Dave Black anytime soon. * - That is more of an obscure movie reference I felt like making than an insult, btw. -

In all fairness, that is way, way, way too much for 30-60 seconds of sound. -

Or, you could really kick ass on a 4 CD soundtrack and charge $0.99 downloads. -

And actually be able to find them, which means either wasting your life on music forums where veterans talk way, way above you or way below you and always missing the mark completely on your obstacle, or getting your masters in music. Dude! This kicks ass! This is the best f'n song I've never heard! Awesome! I'm just having some fun with you and the way you word things. -
Need Help with New Age/Ambient song I'm doing
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Oh thank the great good Lord. An idea! This whole song is fucked up IMO, and having worked on it since only fucks it up further. I don't know what I keep doing wrong, over and over, but this is about the most frustrating track I've done in a while. Anyway, the sound you keep hearing is some weird sample from a Kompakt drum track. I wanted it because I originally dreamt up this track to be something of a cross between Metroid Prime and Chrono Cross. And I totally mean to fix that ending, thats just what I had come up so far. If its any bother, is there anything specifically I can fix up to breathe some life and fix some of the errors here? I really don't know what the fuck I'm doing here on this track. -

No help at all? -
I meant to send this earlier before the storm knocked my power out. Dude, I totally feel for you. Time is definitely going to be an issue for you, but the good news is you can always find time. Hell, this was the busiest semester I've ever had, without a working computer for a whole month, and I've still turned out more music better than ever before. Of course, I'm a community college student, not University, but you'll be able to pull it off. . . . 10-12 hours a night? Waste of life! Even during the off-periods, you should pull in a max of 7 hours. When you're busy, do 4-5 hours. You're around your physical peak, so this is the time to take advantage of it.

Except music classes, books, CDs, portable players, sheet music and hiring professional help when you find out you suck. Besides, he's playing live so the samples are not as much of an issue (at least not the guitar sample). I think Zircon wrote a thread on how to write music cheap (or at least within certain budgets), so it's not impossible. -

So you're suggesting a brand new wave of beer bottle music? I'm not saying awesome music can't be done cheap, I'm saying cheap music isn't always awesome. Not everyone can play a beer bottle. Besides, I've only known two free VSTs that didn't waste my time, and one of them is buggy as hell. And I've only known the Korg Part A-E series of soundfonts to actually be worthwhile to compose with for serious tracks. -

Meteo Xavier replied to SHIBbYinc's topic in General Discussion
Well, I was joking, but let's run the numbers: - FL Studio 8 with Soundfont player: $240 IIRC - High Quality VSTs: Lets simplify and just say SampleTank 2: $200 - Computer capable of running all that competently: $600 Custom made Prophet of Mephisto (and thats still a hell of a deal This is what it would take for a brand new person to contribute something that would be even close to passing the judge's panel. I'm not digging on quality submission standards, I'm just saying, roughly, those are the numbers. I don't even want to think about what it might cost to do it live with a quality guitar/piano, mixing board, microphone, sound editing software, etc. -

Its not hateful, its a realistic example of how a poorly constructed advertisement will be received by employers, if it's not ignored outright. -

Well the good news is now we can have the OCremix Men's Breakfast with all the egg on our faces having no other place to go. I don't see whats so peaceful about it though, it sounds like a village after the Red Wings bombed it. -
Need Help with New Age/Ambient song I'm doing
Meteo Xavier posted a topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm working on a New Age/Ambient album that I have serious intentions for and this is the introduction/first track. All the songs are supposed to really blur the line between Ambient and New Age song structures, moving without really moving, sparse and minimal with full atmospheres, etc. And each song is supposed to be structured a certain way. This one in particular is supposed to be kinda like a dream, with the music changing and evolving from one thought to another with only fractions of a core theme, but I'm having a lot of trouble with it and even with professional mastering and consulting, which I'm getting, I'm just not sure this song is up to snuff. I have the basic frame of the song done and I really have some work to do as it gets closer to the end. Please just let me know if I'm on the right track. I've spent like a week on this track and I barely have the energy to listen to it anymore. Any ideas and help would be appreciated, baring in mind I don't want to fuck with the structure, just improve it greatly. http://www.savefile.com/files/2114932
