  1. There should be a way to create your own playlists of OCremixes and share them with your friends. These playlists should be searchable with all that Web 2.0 stuff. It would be even cooler if there was a way to batch download the mp3s in a playlist. This seems like a site feature that OCremix fans would use and abuse the hell out of if it was offered. :)

  2. DJ Nerd42, Random Beats Productions & Get Some! Records presents:

    White Materia

A Final Fantasy VII Hip Hop Mashup Concept Album / Mixtape

By DJ Nerd42 featuring Random A.K.A. Mega Ran

    nerd42.net - megaran.com - getsomerecords.com

    FREE download available on 1-31-2013.

In 2011. Mega Ran dropped “Black Materia” with beats by Lost Perception and lyrics that told the epic story of Cloud Strife and his AVALANCHE allies battling the evil Shinra Inc. and Sephiroth from the classic 1997 role-playing game, “Final Fantasy VII.” In 2012, it was followed up with, “Black Materia: The Remixes” with even more original awesomeness featuring many guest appearances from all over the nerdcore hip hop scene. Now, in 2013, you get to hear the same crap that’s been recycled at this point about three times, cause we just can’t let it go!! Hooray! :D

From the accomplished mashup artist who brought you the video game hip hop concept albums, “Chrono Tied” & “Deltron 3742” comes his most ambitious project yet. Unlike the previous game-soundtrack-centric releases, the “White Materia” mixtape combines the “Black Materia” vocals with 19 beats both old and new, selected from among DJ Nerd42’s favorites with only one criteria: being awesome. Grab it on January 31st, 2013!

DJ Nerd42 is putting together more nerdcore hip hop mashups in future! If you are an artist who would like to be featured on a future DJ Nerd42 release, email nerd42@gmail.com with your full songs and vocal tracks!

Also coming soon: a second disc of leftover extra bonus crap from White Materia & Deltron 3742!!

Look out sometime later this year for DJ Nerd42’s French House mashup project, “Daft Side of the Moon”!

  3. Deltron 3742 is a sequel to DJ Nerd42's "Chrono Tied" (2009) which combines the lyrics of Deltron 3030 (2000) over beats made from sampling the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack. (1997) The album explores the concept of a dystopian future (much like the game does) from the point of view of an underground resistance fighter named Deltron Zero. (portrayed by Del tha Funkee Homosapien)

This is not intended for ocremix submission because it is not intended to conform to the ocremix guidelines. I'm just posting it because it may be of interest to participants here for it's heavy use of video game music.

  4. In the same vein as "Chrono Tied", I'm looking at doing a Deltron 3030 meets Final Fantasy VII album. To do that, I would need to purchase or acquire these final fantasy VII instrumentals somehow. I don't accept donations for the mashup productions I do but if somebody liked Chrono Tied enough to really want to hear more of that kind of work, I would accept somebody purchasing those instrumentals on behalf of this project and sending them to me, preferably as FLACs. I know how to rip low-quality mp3s from BandCamp sites but it's stupid to base a mix on such low bitrate material as the bandcamp previews.

If nobody wants to sponsor that then I guess I'll shelve that project till sometime when I can justify the expense.

  5. Get ready for some Super Mario Bros hip hop!! :) "Girlies Meet the Mario Bros" puts Rootbeer's "Girlies" over the beat from Super Cocoa Brovas - Super Brooklyn (which samples Super Mario Bros 1) to create a genre-crossing mashup.

    On YouTube:

It's from my latest mixtape It's Pronounced "Forty Two" http://djnerd42.blogspot.com/2010/04/its-pronounced-forty-two-bonus-track.html

Also another funny video game related track from the same project, "Chrono Trigger Takes All My Moneys" featuring KJ-52

    On YouTube:

These aren't for OCremix submission because they're actual remixes, not arrangements. But thought people here might like to hear them anyways! :)

  6. I think only the mediafire link has half-working or something. The megaupload download works 100%. I didn't check the others.

But anyways. Good stuff! I'm not a big fan of hip-hop but lyrics are relatively pg-ish and has substance, not just random words haha. =] The annunciation is good too. Great work. Keep it up!

Yeah, The Rising Tied was pretty good ... as far as mainstream hip hop goes, it is about as underground as you can get ... without actually being underground. LOL :)
  7. This is great, and needs more attention here. Nice use of the CT source on track 11.
Actually that instrumental was by Compromised, for the Chrono Trigger Mixtape. I figured, why reinvent the wheel? So 9 out of the 20 tracks re-use Compromised's beats, then there's one by Theory and two that I just used straight out of Chrono Trigger. So that plus nine original beats by me makes 20 tracks. :)
  8. so, I don't understand, if this is a release, then why'd it get moved to workshop?

I am enjoying this greatly by the by

Yeah, this is definitely not a workshop deal. It's not a work in progress anymore (has been for the past three years) - it's a release.

I'm not submitting this to be included in OCremix, which is for making arrangements, while my art is about making actual remixes and mashups. I'm just posting about it so members of the community who want to can listen to it, as it relates to video game music and thus probably to their interests.

i couldnt get half the songs to work but the half i did sounded pretty good.

i think its crazy after all this time the soundtrack to Chrono Trigger is still so popular.

Because I haven't heard this from anyone else, my guess is that your download corrupted somehow on your end. Try downloading again - perhaps from a different mirror. If you aren't using the latest version of 7-zip to unzip, get it at http://7-zip.org/ You may also be using a sucky media player. Try VLC media player or WinAmp instead, as I know for sure that both these players will play my files with no problems.

And if all else fails you can still catch the full track list on my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/djNerd42#grid/user/79DE53AAAA3C924C

  9. ok so i really like the "Video Games" song by KJ-52. it's a Christian rap song about video games.

    (here are the lyrics)

    http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Video-Games-lyrics-KJ-52/4743B0BECBC99DF04825700C001460DC

and i was thinking about remixing or making a cover of it. looking at the site submission standards, that probably wouldn't be accepted here since it wasn't composed specifically for a video game - but my idea is to put the same lyrics over beats that WERE composed for video games (Probably one verse of Mario, another of Zelda and another of Final Fantasy)

i was wondering whether if I did that my new(erish) track might be considered. has anybody else tried anything like this?

  10. There, I went so far as to dig out my original Chrono Trigger OST and rip the song, just for you!

The tempo is 83.91, I even added a drumtrack for you!

    http://inverteddungeon.com/triacesuperfan/SnappleMan/WindScene_Click(83.91).mp3

    83.91 bpm !?

    SWEET! YOU'RE AWESOME !!!!!!

oh ... wow ... you did a really good job on that drumtrack too. its too bad I can't just loop that track and re-use it

what I'm trying to do is to mix together Fort Minor's hip-hop album "The Rising Tied" (just the vocals) with the Chrono Trigger soundtrack, to create a new fan-made album called "Chrono Tied". "Wind Scene" is going to be the background music for "Remember the Name"

i should be able to do that track now. but how did you figure that out?? :)

  11. I've been trying to figure out how to find the beats-per-minute based on the tempo information in an .spc SNES music file - there has got to be some formula or other that will tell us exactly what the beats-per-minute is.

"Wind Scene" from the Chrono Trigger OST is somewhere between 84 and 85 BPM (i found this out by actually counting the number of beats in a minute and testing repeatedly) but a metronome won't stay in sync for more than 5-10 seconds at either of those tempos.

(BPM Analyzers get that song entirely wrong)

Can anybody help me with this?

  12. i've been trying to start a project called "Chrono Tied" that mixes the Chrono Trigger OST with Fort Minor's "The Rising Tied" nobody's wanted to help with that thus far, but that's kind of on a related subject to this thread (video game music + hip hop = blip hop ?)
