    Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes)
Congratulations to Souperion for winning the last round! As a result, he get's to choose this month's MnP source! Here's what he had to say about his pick:
""Anything But Tangerines" from Earthworm Jim 2. The franchise is bizarre and the games were challenging with some impressive music for the SNES era. Have at it!”- Souperion
    GAME: Earthworm Jim 2 (SNES)
    SOURCE: Anything But Tangerines

    MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required.
    MnP Instructions/Guidelines
    Rules for Picking a Source:
All video game sources are limited to the 6th generation of video game consoles and earlier. This was due to community consensus, where people preferred to remix more retro games, than newer games. 6th generation includes: GameCube, Xbox, PS2 and Dreamcast.  I'm now restricting big name franchises (Such as Zelda and Mega-Man) to one source per year. This is to encourage more obscure games, that not many people will know about to be picked.  Make sure you provide me both a video and a MIDI of the source in question.  Note: This is subject to change. Also keep an eye out, if any special rounds come into fruition.
    Guidelines:
Modifying the Source is fine, so long as it doesn't sound completely separate from its original intent.  If you're gonna do a genre change, at least make sure the original aspect of the source is not lost. Tempo changes are fine, as long as it's not a big change. I'm talking like, going from 80bpm to 140bpm.  Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max), and submitted as a MP3 file. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry.  Try to avoid making quality-based comments on submissions until after the Round is concluded.  It is to avoid a Bias in Votes. MISC/TIPS
    - When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make people's lives easier.
    - In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)

HoboKa reacted to Master Mi in Need a new big-ass VST Library
Yeah, I guess a big big bundle of Komplete from Native Instruments might be one of the best choices for a wide variety of really sophisticated and realistic VSTi sample libraries with lots of instruments and synthesizers.
And yes, you might have to upgrade your system to Windows 10 or higher if you want to install and use the newest Komplete bundles.

I'm still a big fan of a very stable former Windows version - and I guess, I won't change my nicely running system in the next years.

Not sure if your question is still up to date.
But if it is, you might also have a look at the pretty well-resourced Independence Pro Premium Suite (which is around 300 bucks and still works perfectly with former Windows versions like Windows 7 - at least I use it since Windows 7, although the newer specifications say that it requires Windows 10 or Windows 11 - but the content didn't change since then).

With the Independence Pro Premium Suite version you get a highly complex sampler ( quite a paradise for sound designers) and around 70 GB of various VSTis and VST plugin content.
The instruments are really well-sampled, they sound absolutely realistic, contain lots of articulations and you might find a bunch of instruments and a few synthesizers for nearly each genre - no matter if you are looking for basic stuff like acoustic and electronic drum kits, acoustic and electric guitars, acoustic and electric basses, acoustic and electric pianos, strings, brass and common woodwinds or further stuff.
It also contains some pretty rare and exotic VST instruments, like ethnic drums, industrial percussion, a pipe organ, different saxophones, oriental flutes, a waterphone, a rainmaker, a bell tower, a cow tin, chimes, a gamelan, triangle and anvil sets, barrels, taiko drums and a basic set of really good electronic synthesizers.

All in all, it's a really big collection of several hundred well-sampled and very realistic VSTis and synthesizers.
The only instruments I would probably miss in the Independence Pro Premium Suite collection might be a pan flute, a harp and maybe a bagpipe or an accordion.

If you wanna listen to some samples of the huge library, check out this link and click on the "listening symbol" in the top right corner of the pictures for the different categories:

    https://www.magix.com/int/music/independence/libraries/

    ...

If you are especially looking for a greater collection of electronic synthesizers, you might be really satisfied with Titan 2.
It contains nearly every important synths (around 12500 synths presets from 266 synthesizers in total) which have been used since the 70s, 80s, 90s and in the modern age.
It's some really huge stuff of content - I got it several years ago and I have only managed listening to around 50 % of the whole content with the 12500 synth presets.

If you want to check the interface, the synth categories and if you wanna listen to some of the synth presets in Titan 2, you might check out this YouTube link:

HoboKa reacted to DarkeSword in How is Nintendo's recent music action going to affect this site
SynaMax's "remixes" were essentially re-creations of music from Metroid Prime, going as far as using the same hardware as Kenji Yamamoto. AFAIK, he wasn't doing the same type of interpretive, from-scratch arrangements that we do here. That may have factored into Nintendo's decision to contact him specifically. I haven't seen any instance of Nintendo contacting any other artist, so it's hard to agree with "Nintendo is going after remixes now."
There's always the danger of a company like Nintendo coming down hard on fan communities. If Nintendo issues takedowns to us, then we'll have to figure out what to do when that happens. OCR very specifically doesn't allow submissions that sample the original game audio, but that might not mean much to Nintendo's legal team. There's an argument for Fair Use, but that's a legal defense that you present to a judge or jury, not a response you give to a Cease & Desist.
As far as being concerned about being able to listen: once something is posted to the internet, it never truly leaves the internet. There are remixes that have been removed from this site that you can still download at various places. Nintendo has issued C&Ds against things like AM2R (the incredible Metroid 2 fan-remake) and you can absolutely still find those projects without too much effort. If Nintendo wants to play legal whack-a-mole, that's on them.
When it comes to the music you'd like to remix and arrange: do what you want. Remix the hell out of Mario and Metroid and Zelda and Kirby if those are the soundtracks that inspire you. Even if the worst happens and we can't feature them on OCR anymore, that shouldn't stop you from making something.

    Welcome to the voting stage
The mixing stage is over. This round has 3 songs and a bonus by Hleet. The following people compete against each other:
    Souperion
    HoboKa
    AxLR

    To vote, do the following:
Visit Breath of Fire 1 - Overworld 2 (PRC448) | Compoverse (thasauce.net) and listen to all the entries
Scroll to the form at the bottom of the screen or click PM.
Fill in the entries from first to third in the ThaSauce form or fill in your top 3.
    State a reasoning for it.
Participants are encouraged to vote and leave feedback. They get a 3 point bonus, but they are not allowed to vote for their own track. They only need to fill in their top two (and can use the third spot to select the bonus mix).
Always look in this thread to find out who's the winner of the round after the voting stage instead of only looking at ThaSauce for the results.
Hleet has a vote that counts twice.

You have until Monday June 20th 2022 10:59 AM ThaSauce time (11:00 UTC, 12:00 GMT) to vote.

If you vote by PM make sure that your top 3 is clear. I prefer something like this:
    (To)
    (Subject)
    PRC ## Vote
    (Message):
    1: (remixer A )
    2: (remixer B )
    3: (remixer C )

    EDIT 2
Chose to retract a statement, as I don't want to raise people's expectations and over-promise on things that I probably won't have the energy to see through to completion.  Might hop in for this round though.  We'll see.
