  1. Well, as tempting as that looks, I'm going to have to refrain from purchasing this. A dream come true, indeed... But I still have some of the PSOne versions.

I'm also kind of getting to a point in life where I'm seriously considering selling most of, if not all of my video games and systems... Nah... THAT probably won't happen any time soon, but I'll probably start little by little.

I LOVE Final Fantasy, with all my heart. I have too many good memories, and lessons I learned from the characters and stories that painted my mind through childhood and adolescence. Way to go Square Enix.

  2. But who knows if the versions in this new port were recorded using that synth or not (for that matter, there's much better sample sets nowadays anyway).

Yeah, there definitely are a lot nicer sounding samples available, but there's just something about the original soundtrack. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I love the sounds, especially the high pitched instrument used for melody in songs like Don of the Slums, and the song played while on the Boat with Red XIII. . .

But anyways, it would indeed be nice to see some upgrades.

  3. A few thoughts regarding what Garpocalypse has said.

After playing Slender a few times this game [Amnesia: The Dark Descent] didn't seem too bad. However, compared to Slender, Amnesia was actually fun.

I didn't know what you were talking about then, and I now understand why. . . Some of my roommates played it at about 2:00 this morning with the lights off, and my stomach was up in knots. . . Yeah, the worst part is that big suspense hit when you see him, when you turn around and he's right freakin' there.

With Amnesia, you have at least the false sense of security provided by opening up your inventory or menu for a few quick breathers before going back into the nightmare. In Slender, there is no menu to run to, unless you want to start over.

I'm going to play it one more time when i get home, before the sun goes down, with the tv on, and reggae music playing. Might need to invite a few friends over too. Then maybe i can get through it. :)
Heck, I showed it to a few friends just barely in BROAD DAYLIGHT, and I still jumped when I ran into Slender Man.
So why am i now downloading the Amnesia~The Dark Descent demo off of Steam?

Perhaps my comment will be better off in the Philosophy section, but I'll say it anyway. I felt the same way about Slender, even after getting freaked out by watching the IGN guys run through it. Why do we have such conflicting mental processes when faced with this kind of stuff, with nightmarish experiences like Slender and Amnesia? My brain says 'NO, don't do this,' but at the same time it pulls me in. . .

  4. Thanks for your support, for anybody who helped out with the kickstarter. They've met their original goal and are now working on some stretch goals: mounts for characters to ride, a second playable race, and a "Casino" biome, like unto FFVII's Golden Saucer.

For those interested in the livestream happening tomorrow, August 4th, here's the schedule:

    9:30am - Start

    10:00am - Monster Explanation

    10:30pm - Q & A - Part 1

    5:00pm - Q & A - Part 2

    9:00pm - end?

(All times listed are Pacific Time.)

    Stay tuned!

  5. Thanks for your input everyone, I really appreciate it. I put the data together before Newt posted, so his answer wasn't included, but I thought I would post a little bit:

There weren't very many females that responded, so I focused on male responses. The mean of the data collected overall: 1.91 hours a day. This included 23 male video gamers of ages 16 to 28. I included input from a few friends as well, so it's not just from OCR members.

Just out of curiosity, I averaged the females' responses as well. 7 women responded, from ages, 20 - 23, and 33.

Mean: 3.93 hours a day. It's hard to compare, since there weren't as many questioned, and the ages weren't as close together.

So the overall mean (including men and women) turned out to be 2.38 hours.

It wasn't for a stats class, just a stats portion of a survey of mathematical methods class. I know I've got a bit of study and work to do before I actually get to the Stats class. . .

    Thanks again!

  6. Hey, this question is for a stats assignment.

For those of you who play video games (and I'm pretty sure that includes just about everyone on these forums), how many hours do you typically spend playing video games a day, including computer, console, hand-held, and cellular games?

    30 minutes

    1 hour

    1.5

    2 hours

    2.5

    3 hours

    3.5

    4 Hours

    4.5

    5 Hours

    5.5

    6 or more hours

If you could also include your gender and age, I would be very appreciative.

If this is a breach of privacy, I will cease and desist.

    Thank you,

    DJL

  7. Think there is already a thread on this game.

Regardless, I didn't find it all that scary after you encounter the monsters a couple of times. Great game, but very over-rated.

Well, I entered the game name in the forum search, but I didn't see anything. . .

Yeah, I can see the tension lowering a little after seeing the monsters a few times. Right now, it's the whole feeling of "I know something's after me, but I haven't 'seen' it yet, when's it just gonna freakin' jump out at me!?"

  8. I finally finished the first season!

    SPOILER:

Man I was waiting the WHOLE season (only 12 episodes. . . I know, but still) for Aang to appear to Korra like he did in Ep. 12!

I kind of wondered why in the Last Air Bender, Aang had a lot of interaction with Roku and some of the others and Korra didn't. I guess it was the whole, "I'm not very spiritual" thing. Glad to see she finally had a breakthrough.

  9. Because it's Nolan's version of the Lazarus Pit. Nolan's Batman universe doesn't contain any elements of the supernatural (like Ra's constant resurrections), so he takes the concept of the Lazarus Pit, which has always been associated with Ra's al Ghul, and spins it into something more real. The movie never calls it the Lazarus Pit, but when you have a knowledge of Batman lore, it makes perfect sense.

This could be applied to the part where Ra's al Ghul "appears" before Bruce as well. It's not a literal resurrection, but a mental I-was-just-beaten-nigh-unto-death hallucination.

  10. I just bought Unearthed. I had heard a few of the tracks in demo-form from your website a little while ago, and am excited about the full-length version.

I'm impressed with what I've listened to so far - the vocals, synth, composition. Great job all around.

I'll have to check out your other works as well. I've heard a few of your remixes (loved Deliverance of Heart from VotL), but look forward to hearing more.

  11. What really appeals to me is being able to mod so you can change and add whatever.

Agreed. I'm not too knowledgeable about programming and such, but watching the video on basic modding made me pretty excited. It doesn't seem too hard at all.

Jasson released an update today showing off one of the tracks by Robot Science that will be used in the game. Check it out, good stuff.

  12. All I do is flood the gates when I speculate and specu-hate, I just wanna calm down and meditate cuz at this rate it seems like fate, don't you think mate?

so I'll stop with the speculation up here in oc nation and hope for elation through our pledged donations, hope that KS mans their stations and stops taking a vacation and takes the fans into consideration, and soon we can say congratulations, something something inflation.

I must thank Mirby for inspiration.

Am I the only one who hopes this gets made into a rap track? :D Pretty catchy, I'd listen to that

One of my friends is the programmer for Crea, a sandbox/RPG game in the works. It's being developed to be easily mod-able for players to add their own items, weapons, enemies, biomes, characters, etc.

They have a kickstarter going on right now, so I encourage you guys to take a look at the video, and pitch in if you can. It's coming along quite well, but they could use some more help. Click the Crea picture above to see the kickstarter page.

Robot Science is lined up to do the soundtrack for Crea. His music was included in the demo of Dustforce. For Robot Science's bandcamp page, click here

The art style is awesome, and this isn't going to be just another MineCraft/Terraria clone. Take a look at the blogs to see how the development is coming along, but I'll include some of the artwork/screenshots below.

    Take a look!

  14. I finished watching Madoka a few months ago. Any thoughts on that one? A friend suggested it, saying it was REALLY good. . . And I must admit I really liked the story, but parts of it seemed kind of weird. The animation style was unique, and very well-done.

  15. Anne Hathaway nailed Catwoman in my opinion. I've never cared for Catwoman that much no matter which incarnation (Batman Returns, The Animated Series, Arkham City, etc.), but this was the one time I was always happy to see her on screen.

Agreed. I had trouble getting the whole "Princess Diaries" role out out my mind when someone would say 'Anne Hathaway," so I was a little worried. I was very impressed, and think she did an excellent job. It helped me to see her versatility as an actress.

Now on a more important note, please tell me someone else here caught that the music for the Superman trailer was either ripped from or an arrangement of the music from Gandalf's death in Fellowship of the Ring. I put that track on my ipod on the way home and I swear that was it. Go to 6:11 in this video:

I'm glad someone else noticed! I heard that and told my buddy sitting next to me, "Hey, that's the music from when Gandalf gets snagged off the bridge of Khazad Dume!"

  16. Well, I haven't read through this thread all the way, since I have yet to finish the first season, but I just finished Episode 6 and wanted to pitch in my two cents.

    SPOILER

I thought it was freakin' awesome when Korra and Lynn teamed up at the end of the episode. Lynn was like break-dancing while shooting and weaving metal tentacles all over the place! Epic. I'm excited to see how the show develops from here. I've found it pretty enthralling so far.
