  1. I'm stepping in to put an end to this madness. You people are arguing like a bunch of fishwives, and I can't really say I like it.

This is a remixing project, not a Dr. Phil episode. If you need to resolve some of your personal issues, you can do that away from the other members. And as a friend of all three of you musketeers, I'd appreciate it if this stupid teenage-bitch tension were finally over, because it's making me feel really uncomfortable (and I'm probably not the only one). You're grown men, please act like it.

Instead of crying because "the big bad boss is being mean to you", just remix your damn track and hand it in before the deadline. It really is that simple. I've never had any problems with Meteo OR Brandon OR Bahamut OR any other project director with whom I've been in contact.

Seriously, stop this bickering and start treating each other with respect.

On a more project-related note, I've been working on a Meridian Child WIP for the last two days, and the one guy who snatches the track from me is the ultimate master of orchestral arrangements. Oh well. =D

  2. I'm personally getting very frustrated with emulator. First emulator won't run certain roms, then emulator stops working completely and all the save files corrupted. Now you're telling me that emulator is behind on the remix album? What's next?

I've had a really lousy day, but this cheered me up. Thanks a lot. =D

And to all you pseudolurkers out there: leave emulator alone. If it were his call, the album would have been out a year ago.

Wait patiently in the shadows where you belong. =P

  3. I'm really confused. The SPC soundtrack I have has both Flight from the Holy Land and Reincarnation, but they're exactly the same apart from the first one being shorter.

Also, I really got my hopes up when I saw Swedish in this thread, but then it turned out to be just some Google Translator rubbish. English is boring. =P

I am currently remixing the main theme for the SECOND TIME for this project since I've decided to include it in Return to Forever.

    Angel's Fear. Oh, the IRONY!

  4. I'm still working on Return to Forever. In my defense, I had to move to a new apartment this week (all by myself, bah) and clean the old one (all by myself, bah). In addition, I had an exam last Friday and another one on Monday, so no grief for me, thank you very much. =P

With almost 25 minutes of music on this album, I think I deserve a get-out-of-jail-free card. =P

  5. And another track from this project has been YES'd by the judges, bringing it to 4 now :D. Congrats to... eh well I don't really know who made it, but still :P
Archangel, and it's a really cool track.

Thanks, both of you! Not to toot my own horn, but I've also submitted my Witchmakers track, and to my surprise it was marked as a direct post.

Conversely, Meridian Child is now open. Any takers?

I'd take it in a heartbeat if I weren't helping HoboKa with his Where Angels Fear to Tread track.

If you can't find anyone reliable for it, I can whip up something. Anything to get this project done.

  6. This is great! Thank you so much for posting this! Commander Keen has always been one of my favorites, even though I'm more of into RPGs than arcades.

I've recently played through ceilick's The Universe Is Toast trilogy, and I enjoyed it a lot! I'm definitely looking forward to trying out the stuff you've been working on as well.

Kudos for the music! I especially enjoyed Thin Air and The Core. The scrolling story really brought back a lot of memories.

Keep up the good work. You've done an awesome job so far!

  7. Thanks a lot for your votes, everyone! I really appreciate it!

Voted! Cause NOW I love this band! And cause I can understand that jazik(?).. WTF?:dstrbd:
I'm from очень восточной Europe xD

I'm glad you liked their music! И да, можно понимать словенский язык если говоришь по-русски. =D

    Done. Navigated through the moonspeak.

It's called Slovenian, although I have to admit I like your name better. =D

It's my little way of saying THANK YOU for your contributions to the SD3 project.

You don't need to thank me for that! I should be thanking you! If you hadn't recruited me, I never would have joined.

    GLASUJed.

    I love this word. =D

Btw, I voted too, and checked some other songs, they sound really good. Maybe you should make them do a ReMix

Hvala ti puno! Actually, that's a pretty good idea! If they get a bunch of votes from this community, they might as well give something back to it. =D

I actually dug the tunes man. My vote is genuine, I think these guys deserve it.

Thanks! I'll let them know. =D

  8. (Sorry if this doesn't belong in the Community forum. Moderators, please move the thread if it's in the wrong place.)

I'd really appreciate it if you guys did me a small favor. My brother's jazz/rock band wants to play at Rock Otočec, a big rock festival in Slovenia. The organizers are choosing some of the less known bands based on the number of votes they get on their website.

You can only vote once and it takes five seconds (ten if you're slow).

Just go to this site, choose Divje jezero (which means Wild Lake, by the way), and click the button Glasuj (Vote). Type in the security code and you're done.

Here's a link to one of their songs, in case someone's interested:

    Thanks a lot, everyone!

  9. As for input, I don't have any of my own, but I did just come across this post in an old thread: quoted below for the lazy Looks like someone needs to get out and do some recruiting.

Ooo, it's great to see there are more people who are disgusted by the lack of PC music here. =P I've always liked The Wingless' arrangements. According to his profile, he hasn't been on the site in quite a while, though. Too bad.

I've got a lot to work on as is, other mixes and school and whatnot, but I think this thread has convinced me to add a Warcraft 2 song to my to-do list. I absolutely loved that game as a kid and played it for hours on end.

Don't feel obligated to start working on another track if you're busy. There's no rush, and you're welcome to join any time. When/if you've decided to remix a track, just give me the title and I'll put you on the list. =)

    gonna try remixing this:

Lode Runner: The Legend Returns/Mad Monks' Revenge: Crystal Hoard

with which I have the strong desire to mash up with the Pokemon G/S/C Dark Cave theme for some reason.

I'll put you on the list, so welcome aboard! Great choice of source, but if you're planning on remixing it as part of this initiative, don't mash it up with Pokemon tracks.

    --------

Also, I've submitted my Eye of the Beholder II track to the panel today. The initiative has thus officially started!

  10. Also, I'm *very* happy that my previous feedback was useful!

Of course it was useful! It's always useful to have another pair of ears, so thanks a lot for all your effort with this feedback. It was very thorough.

But before I continue, I have to say that I've just realized I uploaded the wrong version of the new WIP. XD The correct one's pretty much the same, though, except for that compression problem at the end, which you've mentioned.

I still do feel a bit like the part is lacking a lead to come in. Around 2:50 mark, a simple string lead does enter, but it's in the background. Perhaps it could be emphasized?

There's plenty of melody in the 3:15-3:55 part, but I still was wishing that something was the definite center melody, perhaps with more articulation/variation. Another thought that I had was it'd be cool if you could tie this part to the previous parts (they're pretty separate in the source) melodically by reintroducing some of the piano melodies from before, but that might not be feasible.

I completely agree with this. I think the main problem is the fact that I was mixing this with my earphones, and they're pretty boomy. If i listen to the track on my speakers or with my earbuds, I too feel that the leading instruments are not upfront enough.

Not sure if I can do anything about the piano melodies, though, since it's pretty much booked in that part.

There's a note from a wind instrument from 03:07-03:10 which sounds out of key and iffy to me.
I think the note itself is fine, but it might sound a little off because there's a random low rumbling from the double basses at that point (one of the atmospheric symphonic effects I used).

Anyway, thanks again for your tips! I really appreciate it and I'll make sure you get the same level of feedback once you start working on your PCReMixes. =D

  11. If Diablo 2 from 2000 is ok, how about Deus Ex (also from 2000)? I have a fairly complete PRC mix from the UNATCO theme, which I've been tinkering with lately.
^ This. If the game is allowed, you can definitely sign me up for a Deus Ex medley of sorts. :-D

Of course it's allowed. It would be pretty hypocritical of me to allow Diablo 2 and not Deus Ex, hehe.

Just let me know when you've chosen your source tunes and I'll put you on the list. =)

2). I'm not quite at the point where I can notate music by ear.

This could be your opportunity to try doing something by ear. It's not a project, so there's no rush or deadlines or directors. =) Lego Island is definitely a great suggestion, so if you decide to remix it, you have my full support!

"It is with great pride that I dedicate this new school, sports arena, or attraction."

(read: I fully support this initiative, I'll post some songs to suggest later)

Thanks! You're welcome to hop on board if there's a specific tune you'd like to arrange.

  12. Uh, this is the first time that's happened to me. I feel kind of violated.

And they even had the audacity to list me as THE Archangel. Some nerve.

Also, I've finally got the time to listen to the entire album. Extremely enjoyable. I love it when there's so much genre variation in an album, so thanks a lot to everyone who contributed their music! I've never played Wild Arms, but after hearing this album, I'm certainly tempted to try, to say the least. =)

  13. The drums I'm going to entirely replace, I want to achieve a sound kind of like this (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01586/) but I'm totally clueless about how to get there.

I like that sound too. I think a lot of percussion libraries include presets like that. However, I've been looking for something like that for quite a while, but haven't found it yet. I've experimented with bit-crushing various percussion and this is what I got: Example

Also, if you listen to that loooong mix I sent you the other day, the one which shall remain unnamed, you know why [shifty eyes], there's some bit-crunched percussion at 0:55.

That's the best I can do right now. I hope it helps.

  14. One of my favorite examples
Awesome CD by the way. I'd recommend picking it up.

I have that! It's wonderful music indeed!

I'm still working on doing this myself in my mixes but if you keep something close to center pan in one section, then double track and move it outward for another it should sound more open.

I usually pan things when the arrangement is complete. It's easier to position the instruments so that they don't clash.

Also, the song would sound more open with some more reverb. It help tremendously, in my experience.

  15. Ooo, a fellow soundtrack ReMixer! =D Remixing Lara Croft, no less! Cool!

This is sounding promising. I like the oriental flavor of the piece and the adventurous atmosphere later on.

I have a few suggestions on how to improve this, though.

    1) First of all, the dizi (I think it's a dizi) at the beginning is playing every note with the same velocity setting. That makes it sound quite mechanical, which is a real shame since the samples you're using have so much more potential.

    2) Again, the first part with the dizi--it's a little rushed, or rather, a little too rhythmically regular for an epic, meditative introduction. I'm not sure which sequencer you're using, but try automating the tempo and making the melody line a little more free and less rigid. If you change the tempo and edit the velocity settings, it should sound a lot better. Take your time with the introduction and try picturing yourself being completely at peace and playing the flute somewhere high in the mountains. Feel the melody and then force your software to sound like the music you hear in your head. =D

    3) Another thing about the introduction: start with the wind effect first and fade it in, and THEN let the woodwind take the lead. Don't start directly with the lead woodwind.

    3) In my opinion, you're not using enough reverb, so the instruments are somewhat raw and don't really create that spacious epic atmosphere you're going for.

    4) The drums are OK, but again, don't use the same velocity setting for every note. It sounds exaggerated and mechanical.

    5) The transition at 0:22 is a little too sudden for my taste. If I were you, I'd let the flute play that final note until the end and then transition into the adventurous part with some sort of percussive effect, like the one you have at 0:53.

    6) The strings would sound better if you used some non-spiccato articulations as well. Also, some spiccato cellos would be nice. Don't just write octaves, though. Try some chords, at least a third here or there.

    7) If I were you, I'd use a gong hit instead of the cymbals at 1:04. They sound a little too sharp and don't fit into the soundscape at that particular moment. It's just my opinion, though.

I might have some other comments later on, but this should give you something to work with. =) I hope it helps!

Do your best to polish this as best you can. I think it really has a lot of potential! If you need any more help, you can drop me a line. I usually write orchestral music, so I know a trick or two about how to manage the samples you're using. =)

  16. But what if they have armor equipped that absorbs fire damage and they're low on health? ARE YOU SAYING I CAN'T HEAL THEM WITH FIRE?!?

I like the way you think! I'm a translator, so I know that everything depends on the context. =D

Congratulations to all three of you! I've already got a bunch of advice from Rozo and Gario, and I know Flexstyle from the Double the Trouble project.

Thanks in advance for your effort! I for one greatly appreciate it.
