  1. I think you have a very good idea and arrangement here Kanohi.

During the drop the bass sound is pretty good, but just looking at that I think it has the potential to be much bigger. For instance, some band EQing, notching, and stereo separating FX are used by many solid producers to increase the size of the bass sound and make it sound more varied (the good news for you is now you just have to play with these FX as inserts and automate to your taste)

From the more airy intro to the aforementioned bass section, you NEED a better transition. This kind of music (that I think you are going for) is all about transferal of that melodic airy potential and building it up to the heavy bass section, kind of a yin-yang between airy/heavy and melodic/single notes, but I think you understand it so just make it a smoother transition!

I can hear the potential in this!

  2. Anyone know a sample pack / kit to get similar sounds to these 4 build up type of samples found in hardcore songs. Obviously I can attempt to recreate them, but if anyone knew of a big pack that's what I'm looking for.

** In particular, the third hit from the second 'thing' I've heard in multiple tracks (sounds like a cartoon car putting on its brakes or something) is a sound I really dig.

first 'thing' is from Zhangar speedwave (builder remix)

second 'thing' is from Kill the Noise - Mosh it up

  3. HI

My work for the past few weeks or so has been towards electronic music production competitions. Image-line posted one where the reward is FL studio or virtual cash for their store + Veela soundpacks + some NI software. Also, as some of you may know the most recent Beatport Play competition is hosted by Skrillex and Damian Marley to remix their track.

I was wondering if anyone else had ever participated in / submitted for competitions like these and what suggestions / experiences you would share with me. These upcoming ones will be my first.

  4. Ah, okay. Thanks!

I actually am using synth1 right now...good to know that not all synths will do that though.

Besides trying them out, is there any way to know if a synth has this feature or not?

Edit: Also, is it common, or is massive one of the exceptions? I really don't have the money for massive and I would hardly ever use it anyway...

It is pretty common nowadays...not sure how 'new' the function is but with the whole dubstep explosion most higher end synths will have the option. To find out, you just have to trial or demo and play with it.

But you can def. make it work with Synth1 with a little more time required. I loved that synth dearly for a year or so but I've moved on :whatevaa:

  5. Although most offer the option to sync to the host tempo, some synths' LFOs don't start with the same phase each time a note is hit. For example, Synth1 does not sync phase whereas Massive offers a 'restart' binary option meaning the LFO will start with the same phase each time a new note is played.

To fix this if you have this phase problem, your best option is to export the wobble synth part soloed, until you get it with the right phase (or export more than you need and cut the audio)

However, investing in a more versatile synthesizer is a good option as well.

  6. I agree about the string section; it's quite nice.

just sounding weak in general. For example when the main melody starts at 0:52, the synth playing the main melody is kind of quiet and weak-sounding and could use more expression. Really the whole song is kind of quiet and has a lot of trouble building up to anything. The part at 3:11 definitely sounds like it's supposed to be louder than the other parts, but it's not. I think a lot of this can be fixed by more dynamics and more moving parts.

I also don't like the ending, but that's the thing I'm least worried about currently. If you can make the song slightly less wimpy, it'll sound great.

Turn that synth up! it's a pretty conservative generic sound but it's nice how you add the pitch lfo'ing in there

Love this song, good source and maybe there isn't enough sound or instruments to fill the spectrum but I like it!
