  1. I get that. I only meant good in a like how raw it sounds. I've never used a tracker and just rely on midi. Maybe one day I'll experiment. I have an old gameboy I should try to tweak out.

Ya, focusing on the orchestration and production. It sounds really clean what you did. Very polished.

  2. @djpretzel @zircon @JJT

Well shit. Thats sucks. I don't know what happened or what was said but for someone who has given a lot of time to this community and then be cutoff is rough. Hopefully bridges can mend in the future, but its nice that you guys want to keep this going. I also do hope that @OA @Sam Ascher-Weiss can get back on the project cause I was rather looking forward to their tracks.

I appreciate Brandon and his hard work but lets move forward and see this through for the community. We're all welcome to release our music elsewhere but contributing together is what makes it special here.

It's done! It's actually fucking done!

Usa turned in a final .WAV today and no more changes are needed on it - meaning the project is now 100% complete in terms of tracks!

We still need to get our shit together for everything else, and now I can start building an additional PR plan (which I will still bother some for help with, whether you like it or not, :P) but the main point of the project is finally over!

I'm actually so excited I want to post this on the main Community page. Do you think they would let me? I want to start building some buzz and hype for it. :D:D:D

This project has been finished for over 2 years. And we've just gotten to mastering? Is this going to come out this year or are we hoping for 2017 now? Def not going to hold a track for an album again.

  4. Just saw this. I have actually been working on a remix for the port theme. I have live violin recorded and the track arranged but I still have a bit of editing and work to do. I am hoping to finish it in the next couple weeks. Its not even in the original OST, so I never thought it would get any love anywhere else. I would be open to releasing it with the album but I may opt to have it released separately before as well. Let me know if you're interested.

  5. I agree that the verse is striking in similarity but thats about it from the track and besides the soundscape there is nothing really identifiably unique to what Powerman 5000 is doing in their track that correlates. The two chords that are strung together in the same key, with the generic boom-tis beat, and ASMR vocals are what makes it striking but none of those are enough to relay infringement. You can hear it as an homage which Yoshida says was the idea but they don't rip off the original besides mimicking the genre. The song's chorus goes in a different direction and they don't mimic any other parts of the song except the verse. The hooks of both tracks are very different from each other and merit separate creativity as far the songwriting is.

Soken is an amazing talent and while he brings influences from other places he has his own stamp and personality. Kanno is also someone with immense talent that does questionable things like this all the time, but she too is a talent that transcends her work with what she is influenced by.

dannthr - what track would you like to do?

Jay - I'll mark you down, I'm sure finding the live instrumentation you want will be possible. I know Doug mentioned to me he'd be willing to collab when I talked to him last week, and there are a couple of violinists around the community. I'll help contact people you need if you want.

Let's see if Jeff responds. He's what came to mind for the part but I do feel like I need another lead for color. Not certain what and the obvious for a flute is not something I'm sure of but I would have someone in mind for that.

If someone out there had a desire and wanted to riff on the melody with some variations that could serve as a spring board.

A live upbeat realistic performance riffing on the sections with variations is my general idea. Fleshing out the instrumentation and giving it new life.

  7. I could still be up for doing Little Sprite but I'd need some talent to pull it off. Want a live violinist who can shred. If @some1namedjeff is interested to play and riff off an arrangement, I'll put it together and claim it. Could also opt for @DrumUltimA to do some mallet/percussion and maybe @bustatunez for some basic flute/etc but need some fleshing to do around the violin first. Gotta keep that fast spirit alive so it'll need some real talent like those guys.

Oh boy, there's a lot to address...

I'm still in progress of ordering my thoughts and ideas for the Liberi Fatali remix so apologies if it's just incoherent blabbing, but I will try to convey what I have so far. The style of choice would be my usual symphonic metal (with experience from these four remixed tracks - putting this out here just in case someone looks at my posted mixes and thinks "I can see metal alright, but absolutely no symphony") with more emphasis on the symphonic part (including full orchestra and four voice choir) and I was planning to stick closer to the source this time around instead of going hipster with the source as I usually do. A rough layout of the song I have at the particular moment is this:

    1. A rather drawn out ominous and menacing orchestral/choral intro build-up with lots of references to the source, slow chord progression with dissonances (particularly in brass).
    2. Guitars/drums/bass come in, tempo picks up, this part is more of a cover/rearrangement of the source with alterations.
    3. A bridge section with various instruments exchanging melodic and con bravura solo sections? Not entirely sure, haven't thought too much about this yet.
    4. Reprise (see point #2), leading to climax.
    5. A rather sudden drop in energy (just like the source tune on its final chord), orchestra closes off the piece.

I am very welcoming to the idea of collaboration because, frankly, this is a very ambitious source to work on plus things I have in mind will require a ton of effort to pull off, so division of work would help a lot. There are a lot of things to do, and just to list a few...

    • Composition - I imagine this would be a rather step by step process where people can listen to drafts, give feedback and improve the piece.
    • Orchestra - I am using EWQL orchestral VST, which is sufficient, but there may be better alternatives that other people have. Additionally, if there's someone, who has a lot of experience in orchestral articulation and humanization, his/her input would be invaluable and make the piece a lot livelier.
    • Choirs - again, I an using EWQL symphonic choirs, but I bet there are great voices out there to fill the role. Or just better choral VSTs.
    • Drummers/bassists - both of these I usually have programmed, which is sufficient in most cases, but it's always better to have live recordings.
    • Guitars - guitar is one of my main instruments, but there's really a lot of stuff to record, including double-tracking, solos, solo backings, dives, clean chords and arpeggios, etc. etc.
    • Mixing/mastering - while I enjoy the challenge and I was getting the hang of symphonic metal mixing recently, it's a huge load of work and require hours to get it right without pushing important instruments into obscurity, I'd be very happy if someone helped out with this.

Ultimately, we would need some kind of place to chat and polish ideas, like an IRC channel, but that can easily be arranged at any point.

Let me know what you think of this plan. Currently I'm on holiday abroad until the 10th and might not be checking for replies every day, so bear with me.

I haven't heard your work till now. I gotta say I really enjoy the progressive nature of it. Very cool ideas. I will be up for helping you with mixing, drum programming, and bass. I'll let you take lead and just give you feedback. But I'll be picky to get this right and we'll take this track to the next level. Liberi Fatali is such a critical track for the soundtrack, so its gotta be good. I can reamp your tracks so if you'll keep the dry recordings as well and that can give us options. I could do the same with orchestra, but you should just blend it how you like it. EWQLS should be fine enough but don't commit the ambiance. I'm not sure if they give multi mic placements only with the more expensive libraries. I can give you a lot of criticism on orchestration. In a rock format hinged on sounding contemporary though you really don't need the theory as much as much as an ear for what sounds right because so much gets lost in the mix. Feel free to message me with your thoughts and we can connect.

  9. Dave, if you really liked and respected my work you wouldn't ask me to change a synth lead sound that you didn't preferentially like just to get dp'd. This site isn't about you making just what you want of it. There's a community much larger with lots of passion involved. And when you lose respect and trample on that then people get frustrated and hurt. I didn't make this post with the intention to make enemies out of anyone but when pressed I wrote my mind. Make me the enemy of myself to make yourself look better if you will . I appreciate the experiences and how I have grown to better understand what I do and don't want to do; and with the process I have no regrets.

I am moving forward. I don't consider you or anyone here my enemy but I don't imagine I will contribute or work toward a common goal here again. This is old news in that, after FF4, I distanced myself from the process and community to entertain contributing meagerly on a case by case basis for others' projects here. But now, post college, with how my requests are handled and how I am left, I will be contributing elsewhere. And I know it doesn't mean much to anyone here .

  10. Frankly, I don't know what this site is really about. Its so convoluted. Trying to get anything beyond the leadership is like pulling teeth. It's extremely clickish and anyone trying to do more quickly finds out. I'm done with games and been so for awhile. I was trying to fix a blemish but seems no one really cares. You think ill sub a mix I spent 9 months on with all the resources, time, and money spent to have it just get lost in the que like I have been treated before. No thank you. I have better things to do with my time. I'm done. And this is just my reaction expressed so I can get it off my chest cause I really did try for a moment. I've moved past this years ago as anyone that knows me will understand. So I leave this as a memory of the past because I don't care to give any more. I won't sub for just the merit of not caring anymore and meeting others for how much they care for those that do go beyond in contributing.

    Peace.

  11. Thanks for the comments.

#1 I am not asking for it to get replaced. Since I'm not in power to do that, I won't ask for it.

#2 I'm not stupid and I know I can't erase the old version for existence but I would like to not support the version that is still available.

#3 My feelings represent my sentiment as a whole for the amount of time I contributed to the project for the community with the treatment given back to me. I need not say more or ask for charity.

#4 I will never sub a mix again.

#5 This post will be the extent of how this mix is available.

    peace

  12. I'm just asking for a favor and did so here because upon my requests I wasn't responded to before. I didn't realize I agreed for perpetual use. I believe I, as an artist, can ask for that, and I might even explore my rights to assert it. I allowed for a version of a song I worked on for many months to get released in a condition that I was coerced into. Even after all these years, listening back it's painful. The whole song leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth from the experience of how it was accepted despite my entire intention to have it be something so special and unique for the site. Sadly no one in the leadership really acknowledge the hard work and care that went into it. That's why I want it down. Because it reminds me of all that.

  13. I cringe when I hear the version that was released, Stevo. They've taken down other tracks in the past. Torrenting doesn't make sense these days with how fast Internett connections are. Just use a zip file. Which blows my mind that with all the work we did that we never took the extra step to do that.

I'd like it taken down.. I don't want anyone listening to the old version. Please do this for me. I don't believe the agreement is perpetual and even if it is, can't OCR do me the courtesy for contributions over the years to respect my wishes? It's just a few links and a YouTube video. It takes little time and no one really cares.
