I accepted it earlier, paranoid! <3
btw, just finishing watching the video with Rambo. awesome

I think I'm just going to let November's competition spill over into December. Rambo's right, I highly doubt things are going to get less busy for people this month.
Would you guys like me to set a formal deadline with a voting period and a winner, or would you just prefer to post entries to the thread throughout the month and we'll have a spanking new theme (like maybe some that The Coop suggested) come January 2010? The latter would be more chill, no pressure, just submit whatever, whenever.
Hahaha, I don't think this is your fault as a theme picker, Chiral (nice sig btw). I enjoy the open themes too, as opposed to the game specific themes.

So.....................................
I think maybe November got the best of us, because I received no entries for this month's competition. Any suggestions on how we should proceed?
-
So have people taken advantage of that extra week? Deadline's in 2 days!
-
And two of Dr. Waltz cuz he's just that special.

okay, gotten over my rage a bit, after some silliness in the server.
also, went through my screenshot folder and pulled some good deathcam shots of a few regulars.
!! on Steel, gracefully falling to his death.
An absolutely terrifying shot of Paranoid D:

So I don't know what happened, but a bunch of people who I didn't recognize managed to totally own us on Dustbowl. The Demo spam probably helped. (And I definitely walked into a sticky trap placed at our spawn exit at least once.)
Then my internet decided to shit itself for the second time today and I said fuck it.
Yeah, that was just more fun than I could handle. In addition to the team stacking (and it was several members of a clan who were on the same team; one delightfully decided to re-add his tag before leaving), there was also sticky spawn camping, and a horrible misuse of the freedom of speech. Fireslash, thanks for popping in, but I think by the time you got there the damage had already been done. It's horrible to see the server empty on DUSTBOWL.
Um, if they should ever come back, the clan tag was ♥BNGD♥. I remember ♥BNGD♥ xXx^ƉǙČƘƥɰǹƨɎʘƯ^xXx , ♥BNGD♥ mesr-, and ♥BNGD♥ RADIO RAHEEEEEEEEEEEM εїз (who would not stfu for anything), but there were a few others...

Kay, I'm officially extending the deadline to SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29th. Good luck with your entries!
-
I definitely wouldn't mind a week extension. (I haven't started yet either)
Other people feel this way? I know I asked earlier this month if the deadline was alright with people's schedules, and didn't really hear any yay's or nay's. But I'd be more than happy to extend the deadline from this Sunday, November 22nd, to the following Sunday, November 29.
If this is something other people want, please let me know! (Also know if I extend the deadline and receive abysmally few entries, you will feel my wrath >:3)
-
I can't decide if I like the smoking gloves or Bowser's delicate grip on the joystick the best, friendlyHunter
Also, this is a reminder that the deadline for the competition is this Sunday! I'm kinda swamped with school at the moment, but I hope to be on top of posting entries. If not, they'll go up just a little later in the day on Monday. Hopefully not everyone is in my position with school and the holiday coming up, and we get a good round of entries for this awesome topic.

bumping the thread!!! <3

I didn't know if I should say anything about this, so I'm happy to see there are people talking about it...
I'm well aware of the idiots on the internet, and I'm a veteran when it comes to dealing with sexism on the internet; I can usually brush it off. But when I'm in the OCR server, I guess I don't expect this kind of stuff. And if the random pubby joins and starts with sexist comments, I hope that someone says or does something.
Yes, you could say today's comments of "OMG GIRL, LET'S RAPE HER BEFORE SHE LEAVES" were mild, but it still concerned me that nothing was really done or said. I've had someone say to me in the OCR server that I was "nothing more than a warm wet hole to fuck," and nothing was done that time either.
So I guess I'm saying that I'm holding the OCR server, its admins and the community up to a higher standard than to be expected of the internet, and I'm hopeful that I can rely on more people than my boyfriend to support me if this kind of thing happens again.

soooo, double posting right off the bat, but there were 2 things that I wanted input on:
1) The deadline for this month's competition, I just made it the Sunday before Thanksgiving (American thanksgiving, sorry Canadians). I don't know if people have school situations with tests or something before the break, or just situations with the holiday in general. So if this deadline doesn't work, or you'd like it later in the month, please let me know.
2) Um, we could easily to a random draw for gift art with last month's participants. If anyone would be up for that.
OH AND ALSO
let's get a list of games that might fit with this theme

FAC 30
Theme: Steampunk
Welcome to the November 2009 (and now including December 2009) edition of OCR's "official" Fan Art Competition (FAC)!
As winner of last month's competition, Chiral gets to choose the theme!
"How's this for the next theme: Steampunk. "
-Chiral
EDIT: Deadline has been extended to DECEMBER 28TH.
Also, for the first time, we will be having a random draw for gift art! Everyone who submits an entry will be eligible (we will have volunteers to make said art, and it will be whatever the randomly picked winner requests I guess )
--------------------------
and the winner is ..................... COTTUS&GYES! Ridiculously close though... gah.
Number One -- DJ Mighty -- 11
Number Two -- Cottus&Gyes -- 12
Congratulations! Both entries were awesome, imo, and thanks so much for submitting
--------------------------
HERE ARE THE ENTRIES
Number One--Chrono Trigger, Chrono and Magus
Number Two--Final Fantasy XIII, Gilgamesh
Please PM me your votes by TUESDAY JANUARY 5th, 2010.

FAQ
What is the Fan Art Competition?
The Fan Art Competition is a monthly event where artists create some form of art based on a certain theme.
What is the theme?
The theme is decided by the winner of the previous months competition (most of the time) and must be video game related.
Who can submit art?
Anyone.
What are my restrictions?
You are allowed to submit one entry, but other than that there are no restrictions. There are no size, quality, image size restrictions.
Who decides the winner?
The OCR community. Anyone who wants to vote, can vote.
How does voting work?
You vote for your three favorite entries, from first to third. These entries are given points based on the order in which you voted for them in. For example,
1st. Rambo
2nd. bonzai
3rd. Nyuura
In this case, Rambo would get 3 points, bonzai would get 2, and Nyuura would get 1 (although Nyuura gets three most of the time).
When and how do we see the results?
After the voting period is over, I'll announce the winner and show the tallied scores for all entries.
If I enter the contest can I vote?
Yes, and voting for yourself is allowed if you really want to.
Rules and Regulations!
1) Any art submitted must be based off of the months theme.
2) No nudity.
3) Your entry must be created within the month. It cannot have been something you've created in the past or partially finished prior to the announcement of the theme.
4) All entries must be 100% your work. Simply altering something created by someone else may be cool, but is not allowed as an entry.
DEADLINES!
EDIT: Deadline has been extended to DECEMBER 28TH.
Please PM me your votes by TUESDAY JANUARY 5th, 2010.

Whoopsy daisies, was looking at my tallies of the votes again and realized that I gave entries 1, 5, and 6, ten more points than they actually received. Doesn't change the final rankings, but I thought you all should know that I don't know what my own tally marks add up to.
So, fixed the first post with the correct pointage.
----------------------------
In more exciting and less embarrassing news, Chiral came up with an awesome idea to help support participation in the competition. Out of the participants that made entries, there would be a random winner who would receive a gift art prize. The gift art prize would be made by volunteers (and here's where I ask if any of you guys would be willing to volunteer to make gift art), and could be a small drawing or sketch that the random winner requests.
Chiral and I would be willing to volunteer; would anyone else be up for that? Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

Edited the first post with the results!!!

Fireslash and I were just talking in IRC about getting some OCR friendly scrims going again. I heard the only one we've ever had was a success. Fireslash has offered up his server as a venue. Nothing super serious. No yelling allowed. Just playing organized matches against friendly names. No melee only.
Let's get a list of people interested for this time around:
Fireslash
Rambo
Bonzai (I'm assuming)
Garian (You too)
Yeah, I'm definitely interested. The OCR server and you regulars are tons of fun most of the time, but there are those times where I would love to not have to worry about dumb pubbies or crits or the standard horribleness that the server is occasionally subject to.
(also if any of you guys have 10 minutes and a piece of paper, come join the OCR Fan Art Competition! you could make it TF2 related )
-
thanks for the feedback guys, I'll try and figure something out for us to do in the near future
ALSO REMINDER, THE DEADLINE IS THIS WEEKEND!!! That's right, this upcoming Sunday, October 25th. Don't forget!

I haven't yet participated in any of the FACs, but I had been planning to do one eventually. I actually think the handprint thing sounds really fun, and will def require some creativity. So I will try to come up with something this month!
Since I'm a newcomer here I don't know how relevant my input is, but here goes:
I do the one hour compo competition every week, and I think it's been pretty successful in that we see a fair amount of turnout, and people seem to get something accomplished in the hour, plus we give each other feedback in the listening party. I wonder if some of these things could be applied to the FAC? Like you could have a IRC viewing party. And the thing about doing something in an hour is that it gives you a specific time that you need to get it done, and forces you not to procrastinate. (Music is different from art so that amount of time may need to be adjusted, but the basic principle can still be applied.)
Not sure if that is at all helpful but yeah, just my 2 cents.
I like the idea of a one hour competition, that's intense I don't know if anyone here's heard of the 24 Hour Comic Day, but I've always been interested in what you could produce with crazy restrictions like that. I wouldn't know the best way of implementing this idea though...
- Have it as the theme for a month, and do it every week?
- Do it in addition to the regular competition, as a way to break up the month?
- Switch over entirely from a month long period to a shorter time period?
As far as the IRC viewing session, I haven't touched mIRC since I installed it, so I wouldn't really know what to do with that.
Um, thoughts?
- Have it as the theme for a month, and do it every week?

I enjoy how Valve acknowledges that they released this update in the middle of exams for many college students, but thinks you should be participating in the war anyways. Dem basterds.
I'll be back when exams are done, and hopefully with less lag!
