  1. The nut could be slotted too low for the E string, plus a combination of blocking your trem lowering the strings.

The initial problem sounded like a machine head issue, with the intonation slipping only on one string, but that would have actually gotten worse tuned up to A (or are you drop-tuned to A?). It could also just be the string breaking in, as you didn't say how new the string was.

My suggestion is unblock your trem, add a few more springs and crank the claw all the way down to the wood. Tune from the outside, moving in (E-e-A-B-D-G), and any time you use your trem, jerk up on it after you go down (it's a stupid simple trick, but it's worked for me for years).

Or, you know, take it to a tech and see what he says.

  2. I'm pretty sure my new years resolution for 2009 was something like "get in better shape" or "spend less money," something I couldn't easily quantify from the beginning, and something I wasn't really feeling.

This year, it's a bit different: In 2010, I'm going to change career paths, and that's the only real resolution/goal.

  3. You're not being smart about sticking to bad advice. You never want to drastically EQ something BEFORE recording, whether or not you like scooped mids or not, that's a horrible idea, and it is NOT fine. Stop sticking to horrible advice just for the sake of your ego.

It has nothing to do with ego. It has to do with (limited) experience recording metal, where we scooped at the amp, and it worked fine.

The only reason I've been sticking to my guns is because a) it's worked for me and B) everyone's been such a dick about it, it seemed more an issue of pride to everyone that they should change a noob's mind, and I'm not about to have my opinion changed without solid evidence proving me wrong.

My apologies for continuing this, and if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but you don't have to be a jerk about it.

  4. Personally, I like 'em both, and I really have a tough time comparing the two. They're really two completely different settings, and two totally different purposes in mind. The only real major similarities I see are that the nWoD borrows a few names and some terminology from the oWoD.

Agreed. I ran a cross-genre oWoD LARP for a long time, and it was REALLY hard to get things evened out. The new world, though, is made for that kind of interaction.

  5. Sorry, I should have expanded on what I was saying. Direct midi-usb converters, not interfaces, will have lag. Interfaces are programmed to work with your DAW to reduce lag. Midi is a little faster than USB simply because of how many paths there are. USB has 4 connectors, only two used for data (one up, one down), where Midi has 5 and only goes one way. Finally, USB will always be slower than Firewire which will always be slower than PCI cards.

This (http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOAP2496) will always be faster than this (http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOUNO).

But, I take back any indication that I may have made that the second option won't work for you, it just won't work as well as the first.

  6. That may be true. But really, I only like one song from Coheed. Welcome Home. I went through a couple of their albums and couldnt find anything i enjoyed other than that.

I don't like them at all. I like the guitar work in almost every one of their songs, but as soon as the guy starts singing, it's a no-go for me. Like Rush.

I just didn't want it to go down in the books that I agreed with the "what a waste" comment, just because he is playing a style that's easier on the ears.

  7. Being able to play a different beat every measure is awesome, but wanting to play something more stripped back and simple (Moving from Dil to Coheed, for example) isn't a "waste of talent." It actually opens you up for more subtleties, especially with snare and high-hat work. Dil and The Mars Volta are 100% in your face, all the time. Even when they calm and quiet down, there's nothing subtle about them.

In any case, Coheed is awesome, musically, but their vocals and lyrics are just unlistenable.

  8. embrace.darkbb.com is an oldschool Vampire: the Masquerade game, kinda free form, using tabletop rules. It's play-by-post, and it's kinda made for people that can play at their day jobs (the most activity is 9am-5pm Mountain Time), with the weekends as "daytime."

In any case, it's a good game, but occasionally slow. (If you do play, let me know, so I can get the XP bonus for bringing new players.)

  9. It does have distortion... it has A LOT of features that are really awesome. My only complaint was that I couldn't completely change the order of my effects; you can change the order, but only so much. Also, you can't double up effects (I play a lot of dub, and I sometimes want to double up my delay.)

Even still, it's a GREAT program.

  10. Call it Utah pride (these 'phones are made less than an hour away from my apartment; one of my neighbors actually wires them up!), or taking advantage of a good situation (working for the University of Utah, I get a 40% discount on these 'phones), but I have a pair of Skullcandy G.I.s (http://www.skullcandy.com/shop/gi-p-6.html?zenid=ba6d1186fec1dc441df49afc908e5c9c) and a pair of Skullcandy Full Metal Jackets (http://www.skullcandy.com/shop/fullmetaljacket-p-30.html) that I run absolutely everything through.

  11. What I've seen with gearbox, in relation to pedals, is that the only real reason you'd want one is if you would activate it on the fly, with your feet. Wah, or delay (if I want something super spacey), would probably be the only ones I'd ever use through it, and I'd just record my distorted and clean tracks seperately.
