  1. Hey hey, been working on a little dubsteppy/brosteppy track lately that I'd love some feedback on. The mixing isn't finalised and it's half done, but any constructive comments? I really like how this one is coming together, I generally think I pretty much suck at dubstep. I'll own up right now and say that it follows some dubstep conventions, I'm enjoying being okay with that

    Thank youuuuu

The band were running a remix contest, so I submitted this the other day. I'm not good enough to win but it was fun anyway. What do you guys reckon? There's a few things I'm not happy with but yeah... I hate deadlines :)

I've never really done anything with sample cutup/glitch effects before so I was basically making this up as I went along.

  3. Very nice clean sound and some good samples/synths. One or two of them sound a little weedy (ie near the end there is a snare roll that sounds a bit thin, and the lead that plays before it sounds kind of flat and basic).

Mixing-wise, you use the stereo field well and a lot of your effects processing is spot-on. However I do feel the mix is a bit bass-heavy, it kind of gives me a mini headache after a while, and I think maybe the kick bumps a little TOO strong. See what you can do with it :)

Only other thing is that drop-off/filter-back-in thing is very abrupt and doesn't feel right. The filter-back-in is fine, it's just the drop-off that's too sharp. If you can make that drop feel a little more natural, it will be awesome.

  4. Try to make the individual instruments more distinct. During the latter half of the piece it starts to sound a little muddy especially with the low brass. (Panning will help clean the sound up, and also, EQ everything).

Also, experiment with dynamics and humanising. Everything sounds too perfect and sequenced right now.

Very nice samples for the zero budget however!!

  5. Thanks for the feedback, man! Muchly appreciated.

Huh, loud drums? They shouldn't be any louder at that point than they are throughout the track. The drums are pretty consistent throughout, apart from the section 1:23 > 1:52 and again at the end, where they dip a little and the snare sample becomes a little softer. So the snare does get louder at the point you mention, but it only comes back up the level it was at in the first place, if you see what I mean. Interesting that you had an issue with it. I'll look into that :)
