  1. Just a little thing. Since we are remaking the Iji OST in a few various styles, I thought I would give a tiny (and I mean TINY) preview into one of them. It doesn't tell you much but check it out anyway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI_LVhEezI4 Enjoy! I'll post more medley related stuff after the exam. I already mentioned that. Doh.
  2. Thanks dude, I appreciate the effort. Taking the time to check it out on another sound system helps a great deal, shall post in about 2 weeks (after exams) with hopefully a finer sound! =D
  3. I think the mix is still quite mushy so you're probably hearing it right, I'll build more clarity within the mix. Also, lol.. sorry, can't believe I said 2009 again. Honestly the work I've been doing has melted my head quite literally, I can't wear hats anymore they just fall off the melted side. And glad that you're looking forward to the remake. Also, I wasn't taken offence to the over-compression comment, of course, any comment I take as a concern to help myself improve so don't worry about that Was just a genuine concern. Thank you very much for the help, once again!
  4. Hello! My name is Chris Geehan, I'm a music student for another week, before I finish my Honours Degree in Music and am set free into the world of self-employment. Good times! I hope. I'm one half of a music composing team called HyperDuck Music Studios (http://hyperduck.co.uk), the other half being Dan Byrne-McCullough. We wrote music for a game called Iji, we have since decided to learn how to produce, compose, mix, record, etc, whatever we do, and have managed to be the sound & music, behind last years Dream Build Play grand prize winner ($40,000 and a XBLA publishing deal), Dust: An Elysian Tail (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR7vE6l1MN0). We are also the music and sound behind this years Dream Build Play first prize winner ($20,000 and a XBLA publishing deal), A.R.E.S (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9XiG61lqpw old trailer). We're involved in lots of other fun projects with Indie Game Developers, so a fair bit of it can be tracked on our website. I have always wanted to join the community properly and get stuck in with trying remixes and learning from you lovely bunch about your own techniques and what not. Also just to have a bit of banter and good craic about the boards, since it seems lively from the outside . Anyway, I'm done lurking as of next week when I do my final exam, so I just wanted to drop a line and say i'll be staying for the long haul. Nice to be here! Chris.
  5. Haha, yes I meant June 2009. Sorry for my delayed reply on this, as I mentioned my exams are decaying my brain. Almost outta the slaughterhouse though. That's great feedback guys, I will change that synth at the start, do you think it would be worth considering putting the synth melody onto a lead guitar sound then? I think that the mix of the guitar riff and the guitar open chords between the build up in the first half of section 1 and the second half with strings sounds a bit weird, so I'll try balancing both out, so the kick in feels more.. kicking! I'm glad I could get some good insight into this, since a lot of people (whom I deeply appreciate their love and support for) just say sounds all great, at this point I am not wanting to be nitpicky but, since the synth thing has been voiced more than once, I want to focus on the shared views of some of the listeners, because I actually feel that way about it too. Also, Gario, you mention it takes your back to our over-compressed (shivers, ugh..) days. Does it feel over-compressed to you? I may do some more heavy tweaking in that area when I sit back down to it! Thanks guys, I will keep you updated with this. I thought I should also mention since you guys are Iji fans, we'll be redoing the entire Iji OST this fall 2010/early 2011. I want to leave a window of that size open so anything unforseen can be dealt with accordingly and still meet this estimated deadline. It'll have the OST in quality of A.R.E.S (One of the other games we've just finished writing music for, it actually won 1st place prize at Microsoft Dream Build Play 2010! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt2ghuWR_QU here is one of the early boss tracks, level 1 - 2). We will probably do it to an even higher degree of quality and arranging than the A.R.E.S OST, which cannot be described from this one track alone, so keep waiting for the OST release. We're going to do it in a few other styles as well So you'll get a bundle of styles. I won't say any more about that though, but if you want to suggest a style, I may consider trying it out! Thanks again guys, you're all stars.
  6. Hey guys, I'm Chris Geehan. I previously had an account on here under the title 'Akourah' but I am rather silly and cannot seem to find the details to get into that account. That said, this title seems more accurate to my presentation. I'm one half of HyperDuck Music Studios. We wrote most of the music for the Iji OST back in 2008. We're just a small new team of two, who are writing music for game soundtrack whenever the opportunity presents itself. We love it, we really do, and we were asked about doing a remix or medley for an iji level in a super smash brawl-esque game lately called "Indie Brawl" so, in the midst of University exams (we're in our final 3 weeks of exams, then we graduate! Yay!) we spat out a mix (not complete) of an Iji medley we've been doing now and then. If you played Iji, you might like it, hopefully you will! If not, check it out anyway. The mix is not great at the moment, I will aim to improve it in the summer after the exams are over, but I thought I would show it anyway and see if any Iji music fans who enjoyed the original can share their support & constructive feedback if necessary! http://www.hyperduck.co.uk/?p=87 That's the news article. http://www.hyperduck.co.uk/HyperDuck_Music_Studios_-_Iji_Medley_(Indie_Brawl_OST).mp3 That's the direct link. Anyways, I will go re-introduce myself on the boards (if I even did it before, quite rude of me to barge in without properly joining the community) and shall see you around more often come June 2009, (exam death date, yay!) Chris Geehan. EDIT: Before people begin bashing the mixing quality of it. I know it's not good at all at the moment, I think I just wanted to share it with whoever was up for listening at this point, I will properly mix and master the sound of this track after Uni has died! Promise!
