  1. This turned out incredibly well. It feels great to see the thing in it's complete form. There are so many great tracks and talented composers on here. Congratulations to everyone involved on the release! You've all earned it.
  2. Shadowgate Nightmare Version 2: http://soundcloud.com/jonah-b/shadowgate-nightmare Alternate link: http://tindeck.com/listen/dgjb I chopped out the Subterranean Caverns part and improved on some small stuff. The piece is now 7:40, which is a bit more of a reasonable length. I haven't gotten much feedback on this piece in any of the places I've shared it so I think I'll just go ahead and submit it and hope for the best. -Thanks to anyone that gave my mix a listen!
  3. I'm thinking about cutting the entire Subterranean Caverns section out for the OCR submission. The length of the piece is stopping some people from listening to the whole thing. Removing this section would reduce the length by about two and a half minutes. I feel this is the weakest part of the mix anyway so cutting it out will probably improve it's chances on the judges panel.
  4. Link to Shadowgate Nightmare: http://soundcloud.com/jonah-b/shadowgate-nightmare-v2 Alternate link: http://tindeck.com/listen/nbne This is a remix of songs from the NES classic "Shadowgate." I've been wanting to remix this game for quiet awhile. I've been putting it off because I wasn't sure if I was capable of pulling off what I wanted to do with it. I finally took a stab at it and I'm pretty happy with the result. At ten minutes long this is the longest mix I've ever done. It uses five tracks from the game to retell the story of Shadowgate. Though the game's composer was never credited, fans often assume the composer was Kouji Nishikawa, so credit for this piece goes to him as well. I'm going to submit this to OCRemix for review, but first I would like to hear some feedback from you guys so I can decide rather or not this is the final version. Here are some links to the original tracks that I remixed if you're interested in comparing: Title Screen: Castle Halls: Subterranean Cavern: Hero of Stormhaven (Ending) Game Over ... Thanks to anyone that listens!
  5. Glad to see this project is underway. I hope there is enough interest in it to see it through to completion. So are you gonna start adding completed tracks to the site soon, or are you going to wait until the project is closer to completion? I'm interested in hearing what other people have to contribute to it. For anyone else that's interested, here is the Town of Maniba track that I contributed. http://jonahsmusicpage.yolasite.com/resources/music/mix/townofmaniba.mp3
  6. I agree with Watarimono. It sounds really nice. I like the ambient feeling you've achieved here. If I were to give a constructive criticism it would be varying up the drums a little. They got a tad bit repetitive for me. Maybe also toning down their volume a bit. That might just be a matter of personal taste though, because I think I would have focused more on the ambient strengths the piece had and made the percussion more of a background thing, but you chose to make them a focus point. Overall though I really enjoyed it. Great work!
  7. Thank you both for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have version three right here. I took both of your comments into consideration. The arpeggio moves a little less now and the guitar is slightly louder. I also eq'ed it a little higher to make it sound a little less boomy. As for the crunchy drums, I guess I didn't really achieve the sound I was going for. I made some changes to it and made it a little less prominent, but I didn't take it out completely. Again, thank you both for your feedback. I think I'm about ready to submit this to the judges. I'll give it another listen later before I decide though. If anyone else has any suggestions I'm still open to hearing them. Thanks!
  8. Ok, made some changes to this. Most of the changes were recommended to me by Anthony Morgan of the VGmusic.com message boards. I altered the acoustic sounds a bit, rerecorded some sections, blended an acoustic guitar into the electric guitar solo in the second half of the song, and made some other minor changes. I think it really helped. If anyone has any other suggestions for improvement I would love to hear them. Tropical Wheel V2
  9. About two weeks ago my first game remix, Dark Shores of Hyrule, made it onto OCR. Several people gave me some wonderfully encouraging and positive feedback on it, but regardless the mix did have a lot of flaws. It just barely made it past the judges final decision. I wanted my second remix submission to do a little better than that, so I'm posting it here to get feedback before I send the submission email. The song is called Topical Wheel. It's a remix of the Frosty Wheel piece from Kirby's Epic Yarn. The piece is basically finished, but I could use some suggestions to improve it before I send in the final copy. Here's the link. [Edit] Here is Tropical Wheel Version 3. You can still find version 1 here and version 2 here if you're interested.
  10. Wow! I just now realized that my mix got accepted! What a pleasant surprise! I know the mix is far from perfect so I was expecting it to be rejected. I can't thank everyone enough for their encouraging words. I'll try working on some new game mixes soon. Thanks everyone!
  11. Hello OCR! I'm new the message boards, but I've been coming to the site for a long time. I haven't had any home internet access for two years now so I haven't been able to post my music online! Well that finally changed. I've written a ton of original music over this past year and I uploaded it all here: http://jonahsmusic.leadhoster.com/index.html My newest works are under Avoiding Analog Reality. Its inspired by video game music composers of the past. I really hope you guys enjoy it!
