  1. yeah yeah, this is embarrassing. apologies to my teammates for not even being in touch, I really meant to try and put something together on thursday/friday but some stuff ended up happening and I just wasn't able to do it. really, really didn't care much for the source tune either (also regretting the one I picked :P), so anything I could've come up with would have been really forced, if not a glorified midi-rip.

    anyway, yeah. sorry, fellow Beats.

    Time Limit...FAIL?

  2. When there is less to choose from, the race between competitors becomes much closer.

With fewer participants, an individual song has less to compete against, so votes are distributed more narrowly since there are fewer choices.

That isn't more competitive. That's just a closer competition.

You could get an even closer competition by only having two teams compete. It still wouldn't be more competitive, though.

  3. It will be a long while before I do another compo in this format, but the next time I do, I'm going to limit the number of teams to five or six. Twelve teams is just a lot.

I gotta say, I disagree that this compo hasn't been a huge success. There's always some adjustment in a new process, and just because we've had some hiccups doesn't mean that this format isn't working. Yeah, people have been complaining an awful lot, but that's to be expected when you've got this many people participating, and just because that's how people get on OC Remix.

Sometimes it makes it hard to vote, but we really should be encouraging participation, not limiting it. I have to agree with orlouge here that this shouldn't turn elitist, which will happen if participation is limited. There's gotta be a better way.

  4. EDIT2: Lesson learned? Do you think we'd change our number one votes based on who's in the lead?

No, I was talking about the need to vote. It has caused several teams to incur lower round rankings because they didn't vote and get their free 3 points per member who votes.

Blue Bomber Brotherhood was also missing two voters. It didn't affect their placement this time, but it did in past rounds, I think.

Also, Neblix didn't vote, but I think that's a first. FOR SHAME!

  5. Kirby did not invent chiptune sounds. Nor did the NES, really. It's just barebone synth oscillators (because the sound chip in the NES wasn't powerful, it only used basic oscillators).

I guess my sarcasm was lost over the medium.

Notice the singular "song" in every instance that it is used. I was calling attention to the fact that "sounding like it's from a Kirby game" and "chip tunes" are not synonymous, and that only one song so far actually sounds like it's using Kirby chips

  6. It helps that this was neither 80's synth-pop nor Kirby-esque, which helped it stand out. Easily my #1 choice.

Personally, I am also sick of how many song are using Kirby chip tunes. Really, so many song are using it that it's like a fad. I mean, with the huge number of song that are doing it, this should be called the "Kirby Castle Remix Gauntlet".

    Srly.

  7. Lol. And once again we are reminded that the sole purpose of these compos is to create Mega Man mixes for Darke's listening pleasure

Um, yeah, about that. I'm not quite clear on your whole master plan, Darke...

Step 1. Collect Mega Man remixes.

    Step 2. ?????????

Step 3. Take over the world.

When will Step 2 be revealed?

  8. Unlurking to give an example (which I hope is right), because I would not want to see any of the excellent artists here disqualified or otherwise discouraged because of a misinterpretation.

Team Metool has remixers A, B, and C.

First week: A, B, and C are all available to be primary remixers. Team Metool chooses B. Remixer A and C can also help out B, but not by doing the majority of the work.

Second week: A and C are available to be primary remixers. B is not allowed to be the primary remixer again until the fourth week, but he can help out the others until then. Team Metool chooses A. Remixers B and C can still help out.

Third week: Only C is available to be the primary remixer. Both A and B have taken a turn, but they can help out C this week.

Fourth week: A, B, and C are all available to be primary remixers again, since everyone on the team has gone once so far. Team Metool chooses C for the second week in a row. This is fine and dandy, but C won't be able to again be the primary remixer until the seventh week. A and B are, as always, welcome to help every week.

    etc...

Okay, wait, so now each mixer has to choose a letter of the alphabet?

Does everyone have to pick either A, B, or C, or can someone pick J or Q?

Does the selected letter need to be unique among all other participants in the competition, or just among other team members?

Does it need to be from the Latin alphabet? What about a letter in the Greek alphabet? Or a Kanji character?

Can it be a number instead? If so, does it need to be a whole number or can they use fractions? What about negative numbers? Is there a limit to how high or low the number can be?

I guess I'm just really confused by this whole thing. Why'd you have to make everything so complicated, Darke? :?

  9. Is this just Wily Castle themes, or is it also pseudo-Wily Castle themes?

    i.e. Dr. Cossack's Citadel, ProtoMan's Castle, King's Fortress, Mr. X's Castle

That last one technically is a Wily Stage, since, well, if you've played the game you know why.

I hope at least Mr. X's Castle counts because its Stage 1 music is awesome.
