  1. well, I dig it but I have a feeling most listeners will just see it as a typical crazy techno song unless they appreciate the Vectorman soundtrack and they are critiquing this based on nostalgia.

Well isn't this the case for any remix? People who are fond of the song will have a better idea of what to expect or demand.

I like the middle the most [because that was my favorite theme from the game], but the transitions are kind of boring.

Yeah the part I dislike the most is the transition from the intro into Terraport. I just ran out of ideas so I am taking a break for a bit and ill hop back on it.

I hope some more seasoned people can give you some pointers because the only thing that really bothers me is the weak bass (I've got my subwoofers on max, mane, and I ain't gettin any punches at all:<).

I will work on the bass getting heavier. Did the mids and highs sound ok though? Nice seperation?

  2. If you have an older account, you can merge them by bringing it up in the username change thread and waiting for DarkeSword or Liontamer or someone to see it. If you wanna score some cool points by having an earlier join date or higher post count, thatis. ;)

My older account doesn't have many posts either and I don't really are about the join date much. Thanks for the info though. Honeslty a join date of mid-2000s with 20 posts looks worse than a recent join lol :)

  3. What software do you use to mix this? Are you using the source midi and then changing sounds to find what you like? Sometimes this can be helpful for a start but it is dangerous because you may find you dont "remix" enough after the fact.

I would say the choices of sounds are too harsh together. There is enough high end distortion that they blend together a little much. The synths just aren't interesting. I listened to the source and perhaps you are trying too hard to duplicate it? Maybe don't use guitar samples at all but something else? Just sayin.

  4. I love the Luigi's Mansion theme and I do like the direction this is going. I would first like to point out that yes you need to modify the drums. They are far too repetitive for too long a time.

This track overall is quite minimal. That is no problem I am just wish there were a few parts that..got excited for a few measures. Maybe get loud a few times ehh?

Off topic: Are you a Reason user as well? I detected some similar sounds in this...

  5. One of the first things that bugged me is the amount of reverb and delay you have over the whole mix. Way too bouncy and the overall sound doesn't have enough low end either. Perhaps the phrase I could use is "tinny sounding".

I wont complain about your choice of sounds as much because I never used fruity loops and don't know how limited it is in terms of sound design but it was an overall underwhelming mix. Not enough dynamic range of sound frequencies.

I would try and define a bass line more and lower the delay/echo.

  6. Ok so I need to test the waters with this song so far. I dont want to give my opinion on what I like and dont. Just tell me what you like and dont.

This is my first really serious attempt at remixing and since Vectorman hasn't got much love around here I figured I'd add to the collection should I be allowed :)

The soundtracks I am remixing in order are the Vectorman Story Intro, Terraport, Tidal Surge and End Game.

  7. Revenrend and Rozo have given you plenty to think about and it is all good advice so I don't need to add. I will give you encouragement though.

Sand Ocean is a hard thing to remix as the source is a little odd to begin with. As a huge fan of the F-Zero soundtracks (some of videogames' best) I really found your take on this remix interesting and cool! Props on the original design and good luck getting that mix balance right!

  8. Hello Im new here so I figured I'd post a few of my latest songs that I am working on so people get an idea of my style. I have huge dry spells so a few of these songs are over2 years old and Spazer isnt even a month old.

    Spazer WIP - Working Title

Let me know what you think of Spazer since I am still messing alot with it. The top 3 are pretty much finished though. I'll add more songs as I go.

  9. UPDATE: New version in place as of 1:56 am EST - Added more variation/effects and swapped some synth sounds, etc.

    http://www.gamermade.com/staff/toast/atmozpheryc/Terraportation.m4a

Based on Vectorman - Terraport & Tidal Surge (Ocean)

    Chiptune - http://ocremix.org/chip/2669

This has alot of areas I am still tweaking and undecided on the actual sound. I just wanted to get peoples reaction to it so far.

The main theme is Terraport but you warp into the Ocean level for a few beats so I titled it Terraportation... see what I did there ;)

Oh and this is my first remix submission under this name which I use for my original electronic music. 4 years ago I submitted a remix of FZero - Red Canyon but it sucked bad and got canned. Rightfully so. I always have found it super hard for me to remix video game music because I am in love with the original so much that I cannot come to alter it.
