  1. If you're cool/lucky/trustworthy/etc enough to be a facebook friend, you can follow the adventures of Nicolas Cage in Saints Row IV: Coming soon.

Nicolas Cage gets super powers and becomes the president of the United States.

It's like all my fan fiction has come true...

Makes sense, since 'robotic' is one way I would describe Nick Cages' acting ability.

Looks like there is mixed opinions over RAM so far, so I'm gunna have to dive in and see for myself whether it's my sorta thing or not. Have to say, I really did like Get Lucky, so if the rest of the album is anything to go by that track, I may be in for a treat rather than a trick.

    We'll see.

  3. In the spin-off thread I said:

Lets Play's are only worthwhile for me to watch if the person commentating enhances the gameplay. Do they have a lot of knowledge about the game? Is the game interesting or different every time it's played? (Such as FTL or Dwarf Fortress) or is the person simply funny?

Another big thing for me, thinking about it, is production value. I like watching let's plays with a lot of editing and post production. It makes 'generic' let's plays look lazy in comparison, and overall enhances the experience.

Therefore, my favourite Let's Player is TheAuzzieGamer. His Let's Plays are more like walkthroughs in my opinion, but they show a good knowledge of the game, are very well editted and are absolutely hilarious.

  5. which is why contests like these are so awesome. that gentle push you need. im in the same boat.

Especially when theres a deadline you have to hit, that helps a lot.

As for the competition; I'm sure it'll work if you could nail down a more direct definition of 'feel'. Other than that I think that anyway an artist can improve their skillsets is a good idea.

  6. I wanted to keep it with that one string and have it lead into hydrocity (thats the part of the game where sonic falls off of the bridge into the next zone and it could sound suspenseful)

It didn't sound too 'suspenseful' to me. I think you'll need to play about with it to get that feel, if that's what you're looking for. Trust your ears on that one. If you're going to end with the string on it's own, at least strip down parts of the track before you have that string on it's own or fade out the sounds. It sounded abrupt since you went from having multiple tracks playing to just the strings very suddenly, so try to rectify that!

    By saying you want to have it lead into 'Hydrocity' I presume you mean you want to continue the track into another? Would this be in one track as a medley? If so, be careful regarding OCR's submissions standards. Taken from the Submissions standards and submissions page on this website;

Medleys must sound like a single song, not multiple songs pasted together.
Keep that in mind if that's what your going for. Check out medleys other people on OCR have done to have an idea of what is acceptable.

If you mean that your going to do a separate ReMix for the Hydrocity level but have the two tracks merge into each other (like they're on an album), then I'd strongly advise you not to do that (at least not on OCR). The tracks you make should be like a radio edit, with a coherent introduction and ending (this is why I had a problem with the start and finish of your track). It makes sense for a single track on it's own to have closure and not end on a cliffhanger of sorts. It works in HBO TV series', but not in music I'm 'fraid

What do you mean by add some original arrangement? Should I start the song with what would be the chorus? Or do you mean add a different feel entirely?

I presume restructuring the track would count as adding original arrangement, but I mostly meant something along the lines of 'different feel'. Essentially, I believe it's a case of taking artistic license on the original midi of the track, such as changing parts (EDIT: Changing parts is a bit too vague, I mean using original drum beats, bass rhythms ect.), adding counter-melodies and putting in instrumental solo's. It's like putting your own personal stamp on the song.

What you need to do in order to make the track original is hard to nail down, and I'm not 100% sure on what is needed to strike the sweet balance between the track not being a cover and not being unrecognisable. Again, I'm going take the cheap way out and suggest looking at posted OCR tracks to see how similar/different they are to the original source. It is seriously the best way to find what OCR is looking for.

I hope I'm of some help here!

  7. This sounds waaaaaaay to similar to the original source as far as I can tell. You certainly need to add some original arrangement to the composition, in my opinion, if you want to satisfy OCR's posting regulations.

For a a two minute piece it sounds quite repetitive as well, almost like the second minute of the track is a repeat of the first. You certainly would need need to break it up somehow, for example, I would put a keyboard solo there. Something to change it up and keep it interesting.

The start and finish of the track needs attention also; It starts to suddenly and ends too abruptly. If your at a lost with how to start the track, try putting in an instrument in one at the time building up to start the main melody from the source. As for the ending, I'm not sure, I've struggled in the past with trying to end tracks. Listen to other songs (on OCR or otherwise) and see how other people start and end their tracks for ideas.

I think I'm almost done with this one

I'm not so sure, there is quite a lot of work to do here and hopefully you'll put in the time, effort and attention this track needs to take it to the next level. This is a good foothold to work with so far, and hopefully other people can give you better analysis and advice than I have!

Best of luck with this track, I'll be sure to keep an eye on it's progress

  8. Good evening lads and lasses, come sit on uncle Adge's knee for a while. Get comfortable, 'cause I feel a gurt ol' post coming on...

So, to introduce myself... I'm a college student living in a small town in rural England. I'll be hitting the age of 19 in a couple weeks, which is good, 'cause I will have a legitimate reason for hitting the town on that day other than "'Cause it's the weekend...".

One of the courses I'm taking at the moment is music technology. And I love it. I hopefully will be taking a degree in music/audio technology next year, and at some point I will hopefully work in the industry at some level or capacity.

Talking about things I love, I'm very much into gaming, which would surprise nobody considering the nature of this website. I grew up with the SEGA Megadrive (Genesis across the atlantic), N64 and Gameboy as a kid and have progressed as a gamer through the generations, with myself currently owning a 360 and shortly will be on the PC gaming scene, which is as much of a relief to my mates as it is to myself (since they shall not hear any more moaning about how laggy my Minecraft is on my poor old laptop).

In terms of music, I am adept at using CuBase as a music software, with me learning more and more about it from each subsequent college visit. I'm also learning the intriciticities of recording instruments day by day, but I don't intend to do any recording at home any time soon (...but that's why the collab subforum is there, right?). In terms of instruments, I can only play basic keyboard, which I'm sure many of you know is sufficient enough in music production.

My musical influences derive mainly from Massive Attack/Tricky-esque trip-hop (I actually live about an hour south from Bristol, the home of trip-hop, and I go there quite a lot and intend to study there next year. You know, for that degree I mentioned earlier? But I digress...) whilst also incorporating some Kraftwerk electronica in the mix and some cheesy synth-pop sounds. My musical influences actually differ substantially from my musical tastes, which is mostly alternative rock, like Kasabian, Kaiser chiefs, Oasis/Beady Eye/Noel Galagher's High-Flying Birds, The Stone Roses and even some of The Who, The Rolling Stones and The Kinks... plus a bit of ska/two-tone in the form of The Specials, Madness and Bad Manners (Wow, I want to incorporate more ska in my work now I've mentioned it) and some Massive Attack and, of course, some OverClocked ReMixes :)

"So Adge, what brings you to OCRemix, you sexy devil-of-a-man!" I hear absolutely nobody say because nobody ever speaks like that to anyone. (Except my parents to eachother, but less about that...) Plus this is a forum where we communicate via typed out words. But I'll give the benefit of a doubt that you would actually ask that question in that manner should we be talking in some type of high-class jazzy establishment. So I'll answer you anyway (and regardless I want to talk about this stuff in the first place!).

I come to OCR in order to get involved. Give and receive feedback, become part of a community, and most importantly of all, to hone my craft. In a couple of weeks I'll be getting a brand-spankin' new computer, a midi keyboard, ableton live software and a lovely pair of Sennheiser cans (About the same time I hit 19, theres no coincidence there...) and I intend to make some original music. It just makes sense to me to share my creations with you clever buggers so I can better improve myself in the practicalities of music production. Plus, creating a ReMix to the specifications that OCR adhere to gives me a solid aim to reach for when creating music whilst simultainiousy contributing to OCR's aim compiling high-quality remixes to celebrate VGM as a medium. Oh, and helping others is a pretty cool thing to do aswell!

Blimey, that took a awhile. You were paying attention, yes? I'll shall be taken quizzes later. Now run along kiddies, Uncle Adge needs a lie down...
