  1. I hope to have a bonus mix ready by the deadline, but I've got a lot going on this weekend, and progress has been slow. But I am curious to see if anyone takes any of the audio from Zelda CDI; you can mangle any audio nowadays and make it pretty much whatever you want.
  2. Thanks a lot, and great job everybody! It's really cool to listen to these free round mixes. I'll get the next source tune chosen soon. EDIT: And thank you, Esperado, for the link!
  3. I think you've got my username misspelled, Bundeslang. Good luck, everyone!
  4. On second thought, scratch the first part of my post. It's driving me crazy, but it's in 4/4.
  5. Just a quick tip, a 5/4 measure sneaks in at the fourth measure/there's an extra beat added to bar 4, which isn't reflected in the MIDI. And as dizzying as it sounds, I think everything else stays in 4/4. I have to give credit where it's due: my wife picked this source track. She really wanted something from Twilight Princess, so I gave her a list of what I should pick, and she said this one.
  6. Thanks, @Final Kingdom! I've found it an incredibly easy way to work on music, since the musical material and rules are already set up. It all comes down to artistic license and execution, which is great.
  7. Thank you for the votes! This was a really nice contest and I'm glad people were able to get mixes submitted. These contests are great, and I like listening to other people's takes on a track; it showcases different ideas so well while keeping the core of the sourcetune together.
  8. Here's the link to mine as well. I submitted it a while ago, but I don't know if it'll be up in time.
  9. Just add some sleigh bells to the mix and you're good. Hmm, now that I think of it, it does have the potential for a Christmas mix.
  10. OK, glad that's cleared up. Congrats, Starphoenix! EDIT: HoboKa, I've got an early Christmas present for you :
  11. You, too, Starphoenix! I really like your sound choices. What did you use for the lead at 1:00? Also: who's picking the source track?
  12. I hope you're able to get it uploaded in time. I submitted mine a moment ago, and I can't wait to hear your take on it. Did you play the game at all?
  13. Hmm, maybe I should try it out sometime. As I was telling you a couple of weeks ago, I grew up with an Amiga and a PC and only played video games at my friends' houses, until I bought a Wii when I was 16. It was actually at that point that my interest in music really spiked. Video game music, as well as film score, has been an incredible inspiration to me. Now to bring this back on track, this track is a great example of that inspiration. I can form a picture in my head of what the music is representing, and that's something I've really liked doing. In addition, the track sounded very familiar to me, and I know it couldn't have been from Bomberman because I never played the single player mode. However, while I was listening to it on YouTube, I was scrolling through the comments, and lo and behold, a few users mentioned it being used in the great mod Super Mario Star Road, and this is where I heard it from. I'm experimenting with the MIDI file right now, and there are two paths that I think I could take on it. I was initially going to do an orchestral cover, but I like the idea of a more jazzy arrangement. But that could be because I had that urge from the last round.
  14. Man, I haven't played Bomberman in years. I fondly remember playing multiplayer mode at a friend's house during sleepovers. I also remember trying to figure out all the different moves you could do with the bombs, kicking and growing them, it was a lot of fun.
  15. Yeah, I looked at the MIDI for Technology and was thinking "nope". XD I do really like the track though. Technology Revisted - I enjoyed the sound design choices you picked, Starphoenix. The hi hat sounds so chill, and combined with the string pad is sounds really smooth. The lead at :50 brings out the 90's feel in my ears. The Lazy Furniture - While Starphoenix's was more 90's based, yours sounds a lot like the 80's to me, HoboKa. The string pad with the sax and electric piano come together really well here. Additionally, I like how the drums are more on the dry side of things and more mellow. And thanks to both of you! I bought an Air Music bundle a few weeks ago and wanted to try out Strike 2. I really like it so far, and I think it'll be my go-to plugin for traditional drum sets; it has practically all I need for drums in one convenient plugin.
  16. I got it submitted and labeled properly... I think. I can't wait to hear any remaining entries!
  17. I will be submitting my bonus mix tonight, just have to touch up a couple things. I got distracted by Titanfall 2 and Dishonored 2, but I was able to get a lot of the mix done over the weekend.
  18. I've never heard of the Breath of Fire series before, but I really love the tone of the track. This could easily be arranged for a jazz ensemble. Now I'm torn on which one I should mix for a bonus track.
  19. Wow, the metal genre applied to the first Sonic soundtrack works surprisingly well! I really like what you did with the rhythm guitar throughout and how you kept it varied. I especially enjoyed the interpretation of Spring Yard Zone, Scrap Brain Zone, and Final Zone. Actually, I'd love to see what you could do with arranging just one of those themes, since there seems to be a lot of potential there with this genre. Some of the transitions are a little sudden (like between Star Light and Scrap Brain), but they work for the most part. I'd also love to see more variation in the guitar range and see what you can do; I bet you have more than a few tricks up your sleeve. On another note, what program do you use for drums? They sounded really crisp and it works really well here. Thanks for sharing!
  20. Hello - I've visited this site for several years, originally listening to remixes from The Legend of Zelda Series. I have downloaded quite a few albums over that time, some of which are from game I haven't even heard of prior, such as the Armored Core album (which is a favorite of mine). Video game music is such terrific inspiration for me, whither while I'm building with Lego Bionicle, reading, walking/biking, playing on the piano, sharing with family, and, more recently, aiding in writing my own music. I am a member of my church's choir, which has exposed me to even more genres and types of music. I've even been blessed in participating in a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with a 100+ choir and 70-piece orchestra! For a career, I wish to write for film and video games in any particular field, and have recently graduated with an Associates in Songwriting/Arranging at Sacramento City Community College, and will be working on a Bachelor of Arts in Music-starting in the Fall-at Sacramento State University. Right now, as I work on Night Crew at Smart and Final, I'm taking a class on Pro Tools, just so as to get more familiar with DAW's outside of Reaper. More and more each day, I am realizing that if I want to be a music maker, I will need to carve out my own path, whether it be in school and meeting new people, or in learning more about software and composition through tutorials and practice. This new realization is actually why I've finally decided to be more dedicated to this site: it really is a way to both learn the craft, share my own works, meet other members, and take notice of the fact that there are people who do enjoy building each other up and discuss music. I recently started up a new Soundcloud, and I wish to upload both remixes and explorations/experiments (which usually go hand in hand, as I'm finding out) in music. As I mentioned earlier, I build with Bionicle as one of my hobbies, and while I don't post nearly as much on my Deviantart, I have uploaded many models onto Brickshelf. I also attend an annual convention, Bricks by the Bay, where I am the Bionicle Theme Coordinator. Video games are another pastime of mine, and I've played a wide variety of games, from Nintendo's classics to Team Fortress 2 (the only shooter I like playing :P) to the Borderlands Series. Battleborn looks awesome, by the way, and you should pre-order it, I already did. Oh yes, one last thing: I'll be getting married to my lovely Fiancée Jo this June, and I cannot wait to share the rest of my life with her. Thank you Jesus for showing me someone who enjoys games like I do. I hope to see you around, and thank you for providing people with such wonderful music throughout the years.
  21. While I'm not familiar with the Prime: Hunters soundtrack, I liked the instrument choices, and especially the "cosmic whistling" and how well it reflects the line from the first game. I also like the choir pad and that it also evokes that same feeling. 1) While they do sound a little more up-front, I do like the sound design choices; personally, if they were brought down a bit, they'll be fine. Actually, I think the low ping is used a little too much, as it's played throughout the majority of the arrangement. It might help if it's on every other measure, if it's only used in a couple of different sections, or maybe making it more subdued. 2) I don't have experience with mixing -it's something I'm personally trying to work on- I'm not noticing anything that's standing out, other than what I wrote above. 3) It seems as though it's a little too long; maybe cutting down some of the middle bit (1:40-3:30) to avoid repetition. And as I said earlier, I'm not familiar with the soundtrack, so I don't know how referential it is, but I do like it. The percussion line does get a little repetitious after a while, and it might interesting to either simplify it in either that middle section, or in that last minute, as it sounded like that's what you were going for. Speaking of which, I was really really REALLY waiting for (and wanting) a drop right before the last minute of track, but it didn't happen. I don't know if that was intentional, but that, paired with a more simplified percussive line, I believe that it would add something to the arrangement. I don't listen to much electronic music, however as I was writing this, I recalled what Nero produced in their track "Doomsday", and I was reminded of the little bit right before and through the 2:44 mark. Still, I like the arrangement as a whole, and I like the FX used throughout the arrangement. Thanks for sharing!
  22. I'm curious, how're you missing a half of a trumpet? I really enjoy the arrangement. While it's not something I've written for, I remember liking the big bands at my local jazz festival years ago, and this brings back fond memories of those festivals. I really enjoy the combination of samba and big band, and it really does lend itself well for the source track. As I posted on Soundcloud, I love the buildup together with the percussion line. I was waiting for there to be more of an "oomph" right before the percussion dropped out, but I still like it. As for recording, are you planning on a studio/studio-esque recording, or more of a live recording? If it's the former, the book, Modern Music Recording by David Miles Huber and Robert E. Runstein may be helpful, especially for understanding recording placement. For brass, they recommend placing mics slightly off-center and a foot away from the bell, and trombones can often share a mic between two players, again a foot away and slightly off to the side to avoid picking up wind. If it is live, you might be able to get a hold of The Runaway Five, who arranged "Big-Band Battlefield", and see what they have to say, as their work was evaluated and passed by the judges. Again, I really enjoyed this arrangement of Angel Island, and while I didn't grow up with old-school Sonic like other members here, I'm glad you reminded me of the good times of going to the jazz festival with my family. Thanks for sharing!
  23. Hello - I've recently re-watched Attack on Titan in preparation for the second season, whenever it's coming out, and I've been really wanting to take some of those elements used throughout the soundtrack and apply to my own works, since there's so much power there. I've also been thinking about applying it to a Remix, to get a better feel on writing music, to work on arranging, to work on production/mixing/mastering, and to simply get the creative juices flowing. Finally, I decided on taking the Undersea Palace and Lavos themes and create an Attack on Titan-inspired Remix https://soundcloud.com/user-913553678/attack-on-mammon-wip-chrono-trigger-undersea-palace-lavos Of course, it's in the WiP stage at the moment, and I'm having one major difficulty: the arrangement is just too conservative for me at the moment, and while I would have some more wiggle room in transitioning to the theme of Lavos, I haven't gotten there yet, and I believe I should expand on the Undersea Palace theme somehow, but I'm not quite sure how to approach it. If you have any thoughts in that regards, or anything else in general, please let me know. Thank you for listening! 24. I have a question regarding the melody rule for remixes. I'm working on an organ remix and I want to have two separate pieces, each with a different source tune, that are paired together, just like how it was done in the Baroque Era with organ pieces (like Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor). While the two pieces technically would be separate under normal circumstances, would it be fine to have them under the same "Remix?" Thanks.
  25. SiriusBeatz: The problem is that there wouldn't be any transition between the two pieces because they would be two separate pieces; after the first one ends the next one starts. Nase: Yeah, that's what I was wondering. I'm not wanting to intentially break the rule to get away with something. I actually see it as more of a tradition than anything else, really, since the pairing of pieces (or, as in the case of symphonies, concertos, etc., grouping of pieces) goes back even as far as the Renaissance. Rozovian: That's exactly what I'm wondering. It technically wouldn't be called a medley, but it doesn't neccessarily mean it's has to be two completely separate remixes with different entries in the submission (if I even get that far ). Thanks for the advice, everyone. Would it be best to contact a judge via PM, or is there something else I should do to get an official answer?
