    Hey everyone!
Director of Arcadia Legends and the soon-to-be-released album for Jet Force Gemini: Mizar Attacks here!

I've been approached to potentially take over direction of this album, possibly co-directed with another. However, nothing is set in stone at all and I'm looking to see what all has been done, what is left to go, what the full scope of the project is and most importantly: Is there still interest for all involved currently and in the past to continue with this album to completion? I'm proceeding forward with Mizar Attacks album release and potential physical edition negotiations, but after that, I can turn my attention to this album - but I'm sending out feelers, if you will, to see if this is feasible to pick up and finish. Let me know!

Those pizzicatos! Loved them in the original, love them here - pretty cool idea to use them as a kind of glue for the entire track! Also enjoyed the usage of Vectorman sources, pretty cool! Especially the stuff going on at 3:10-3:37. The Emerald Hill outro caught me off guard, but not in a bad way for sure
    Very good work!

When I first saw this track, I thought "What is this title, dude", but then I clicked on video and was like "Aha, I see"
Very neat track. Super digging the slightly dark and tense atmosphere. It's classic WillRock goodness, so nothing to complain about. Pounding drums, some piano bits here and there, and, of course, top-notch synth work - really love those crazy solos towards the end. Nice one!

Everything pretty much works, just need to test it more. I'm also not happy with how it looks just yet.

Sup guys. Here's a new remix (or cover?) of 1st Stage Theme from "Journey to Silius" by me and Mirasol. This time - with original lyrics and original video! I hope you like it! Thanks and have a nice day!

Very sad news to share that ReMixer Justin Lassen passed away yesterday, Feb. 22nd, due to natural causes. He was 39 years old. There's a GoFundMe that's been established to help his family pay final expenses. If you're financially able to, please consider supporting it.

Along with being a multi-decade career musician, we just posted his debut ReMix from Earthworm Jim this past December, and he participated in two community albums from the BadAss series.
    Rest in Power, Justin.

Ah, another portion of synthwave-y goodness from Jorito - these can never hurt  Perfect soundscape as always, definitely has that "going into the sunset" kind of vibe to it. Really fun and engaging all the way thorugout - super strong groove overall, expressive synth solos, tight guitar work (good job on that, HeavenWraith!), and the vocoded bits worked really neatly as a sort of break. If I had to guess, they say "Wanderers from Ys" and "Sunset Heroes", but I'm not entirely sure. Anyways, love this track, amazing work!

Just beuatiful. Despite all the glitchiness going on, this piece feels really cozy and comforting. There's definitely something nostalgic about the atmosphere. It really feels like a little tale of the old days  The item jingle at around 1-minute mark is a nice touch and the piano at 1:43 nearly broke me... In a good way, haha. Once again, exceptional work, Michael!

Black_Doom reacted to horn1 in The Newbie Introduction Thread: Come on in and say hello!
    Hello!
I'm a long-time listener by association: my wife has been a huge fan of OCR for a long time. I've loved game music since my first NES back in 1989. Big fan of all things Zelda, Uematsu's Final Fantasy scores, and the earlier Castlevanias.
I'm a full time professional classical musician: I'm the assistant principal (french)horn player in the San Diego Symphony. We are mostly a classical music institution, but we're also the orchestra for San Diego Opera, and we do a huge outdoor summer pops season on the waterfront right next to the San Diego convention center. So, I've had some really fun opportunities to play things like Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, Video Games Live, and best of all, the Final Fantasy shows, Distant Worlds & Final Symphony.
Since my orchestra is mostly sidelined because of covid, I've been making "virtual performance" horn ensemble videos for the last several months. This week, I dusted off an old arrangement I did of the prelude from Castlevania III, so I figured it might be time to come introduce myself here... https://youtu.be/mU8aIW8unXk
    Cheers!

Wow, this is different! I mean, I've been listening to the original version of the track since the album release back in 2013 (!), so you can imagine how much I'm used to it  And listening to this one just messes up with my brain so much, haha. But I can't say the changes are for the worse here! In fact, I really love some of them quite a lot. The strings sound more clear, you've got a much more varied beat, and damn, that "swoosh" sound effects... I can't help but smile  All in all, very solid work!

    Hey, it's me again!
I've fiinally wrapped up the project with a nice bow on top. It's hard to stop yourself from editing and editing into infinity. One day you just have to let go.
The entire project has been documented into a (slightly) interactive case study, made in a design tool called Figma. It's basically a fancy powerpoint pres, but I figured it got the point across better this way. In other words, you can scroll and click around, particularly when you get to the page designs. If you're unsure what you can click, just click anywhere and blue boxes will highlight the interactive areas. I've never delivered a project in this fashion before, so let me know if you thought it was worthwhile or pointless :D
There are 12 pages, all pretty densely packed with stuff, so make sure you stay hydrated if you plan to read the whole thing:
    Open the case study →
When you're finished, I'd love to hear your feedback!
Thanks again to everyone who took part in the survey and helped out in other ways!

You know, when I saw in the project thread that Lashmush was doing a Doom ReMix, I got super excited, because, boy, his works on previous volumes is just superb to say the least. Imagine my reaction when this juggernaut was released into my ears for the first time. An epic, unapologetically brutal symphonic metal take on some of the best Doom music? Hell yeah, sign me up! Absolutely perfect shreddage combined with breathtaking orchestral parts is certainly what one may need when murdering a bunch of demons! Good stuff

This one took me by surprise, that's for sure. A funky metal ToeJam & Earl remix? I guess that's a thing now, haha. Seriously, this is such a fun track! Tight guitar performances? Yes! Groovy drums? Yes! Lively brass stabs? Yes! Hyperactive Genesis-ish bassline that's just poking your brain? Yes! And to top it all of, crazy synth soloing? YES! So what's not to like? And man, the second part when the track basically goes off the rails is sooooooo good! Very solid work, gentlemen!

It's been a long time. 4 years since BadAss 3, and 7 since the last time I had a hand in directing. It's about damn time, and I'm proud to present the newest in the BadAss line, Paragons & Renegades: A BadAss Heroes Album! It's finally here, you guyses! To commemorate this occasion, I'm gonna tell you a secret: I first started BadAss to have a different sound and tone when compared to what OCR had been putting out to that point, at least in overall style. Much as I loved all the albums to that point, I wanted something meaner and darker; I had just come off of The Dark Side of Phobos and wanted more of that while at the same time not being tied down to a single game, so we joined up with KNGI and made it so. The making of BadAss 1 and 2 were some of the most fun moments I've ever had making music & I look back fondly on those days. We made some kickass tunes, but I like to think it was the friends and memories we made along the way that make these albums good & I think that's pretty kickass!
When Pieter and I first started planning a hero-themed fourth album in the BadAss line in 2019, the only goal we really had was to have fun. I can't speak for Pieter, but I missed having fun making music. I'd been doing contract work composing & sound designing and I was getting burnt out by it all, but I remembered those days making BadAss 1 and 2 and how much fun it was. We were experimental & I think the tracks that come out of a BadAss album show that. So, we started BadAss Heroes if only to be experimental, to let the music guide us, and to just have fun. A lot has happened in the world since then, and so have my reasons for working on this album. This is a hero-themed album & maybe we can all use a reminder to better days when defeating evil and being a hero was as simple as loading up a game and pressing a few buttons. It's become harder to see the better days, and even harder to see the heroism in the world. My hope is that this album leaves you energized, feeling badass, and most importantly, with some good-ass memories. And, hell, if we can inspire a little bit of heroism in you hardcore style, well, that'd be awesome too!
    - David L. Puga

Welcome to Paragons & Renegades: A BadAss Heroes Album! A true spin-off from the main BadAss series focusing on heroes this time around and having two discs with their own feel. Why not a BadAss: Boss Themes: Volume 4? Well, as I wrote in the album write-up of BadAss 3, I had been working non-stop on BadAss since its never-released spiritual predecessor, Crescendo to Chaos. BadAss 1 was really an experiment for us (I was just an assistant director then) and so was the music. A genre-style album, not focusing on a certain soundtrack, born from the KNGI community almost more than from the OCR community… it was new in many ways. In BadAss 2, I think David really found his niche of genre and we made it even rawer and focused than the first one. With BadAss 3, I took over as director and had my own staff without David. It gave me the opportunity to grow more as a director and give it more my (genre) niche and vibe: more eerie and more bombastic - more like a movie soundtrack. After that, I felt like the trilogy was complete and I did everything I could with the BadAss formula. But David and I (and others in the project threads) always teased each other with "Well, one day there should be a GoodAss…"
And that day has come! We're going back to something new, something fresh. Bringing different genres to the mix, having a new focus, being able to welcome new and additional mixers to the BadAss family and trying to figure out how to make something work all over again... It was the fresh energy I needed to direct another album, this time with David beside me! It has been a difficult one-and-a-half years for me (i.e. medically speaking), so making the time to work on this album and make a mix for it was very challenging for me this time around. But it has been a great experience slowing down and picking up again with David picking up when I couldn't and vice versa. In the end, it was really fun doing this as it felt like two buddies making something new! And since GoodAss isn't a great name, and since we went for a separation of genres (bombastic and/or more peaceful on disc 1, and way more aggressive and raw on disc 2), this is: Paragons & Renegades! And who knows, perhaps there will be a Paragons & Renegades: Volume 2 in the future?

Hey folks, a quick update on the project status: sadly, there's now zero tracks from the Riders trilogy, so if you could help us to fill the gap, that would be very appreciated! Vocal tracks from these games are a little more prefered, since they would act nicely as an album opener. Here are some suggestions (note: some songs have multiple versions, it's fine to pick any of them):
Sonic Speed Riders (Sonic Riders) Catch Me If You Can (Sonic Riders) / (Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity) Un-gravitify (Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity) / (Crush 40 version) Free (Sonic Free Riders) / (Crush 40 version) However, if there's any other track from the Riders games you'd like to tackle, let me know!
I've also updated the list of available games! Chao races (both SA1 and SA2) are now valid options! SA2 also has a kart mini-game and 2P mode which I completly forgot about, so my apologies for ignoring the Adventure games the whole time They are optional, but would be nice to have too!

This is beyond any levels of incredible, holy cow! I just LOVE this. I mean, I downloaded the track and then just listened to it 10 times in a row  The intro is a little long in my opinion, but when it hits, it hits soooo hard. I... I don't even know where to begin. First of all, I'm not familiar with the original, but I can absolutely clearly feel the cartoon-ish evil/crazy/mad vibe going on, and it's simply adorable! The arrangement is top-notch too - there's plenty of variety, never becomes boring for even a second. The diverse instrumentation is also worth mentioning, I guess. I've always been a huge fan of drums/percussion in Rexy's stuff, and this remix is no less amazing in that regard - especially the breakbit at 4:25, that was really nice! And oh my, there's so many various leads - chips, piano, bells, all kinds of synths, wow! And there's even some guitar here and there... This is pure win. Definitely one of the best remixes of 2020!

First of all, the progress is being made. In fact, two tracks are nearly completed aside from a few final touches and mastering!  Second, a couple of tracks got dropped since the last post, but we've also got a new remixer to balance the things a bit - @Jamphibious grabbed Sonic 3 a few days ago! The project has finally got a sound engineer - @Chimpazilla was kind enough to handle the mastering, and I'm really thankful for that My good friend Flan agreed to draw all the art for us! She doesn't have any web page, but here are a few examples of her work! That's all for now!

I hate to double-post myself, but there is some big news regarding album development.

This album trilogy has had a history of collaborating with the Dwelling of Duels, and so, September 2020 is the OC ReMix Crossover FF3 Month!  If you main a live instrument, go check it out - if you take part and you decide to send it to OCR's submissions queue, the evaluation will get fast-tracked.  Any track from the game can be chosen, though there are still some uncovered spots on the OST (including some not even listed in the OP) that would be nice to have some representation.

Talking of which - during this past month, @bluelighterhas made claims on not one, but two tracks!  He has finished his take on "Crystal Tower" (with added usage for Tower of Owen), and is wrapping up an arrangement of "Ancient's Village" at this current moment.  I am delighted to have a talented classical-inspired arranger jump in!

If you're a potentially interested arranger, you're more than welcome to send a PM to me here on the forums or in the OCR Discord if you'd like to make a claim yourself outside of the DoD event.  I wish all participants there the best of luck, and hype for some great tunes! x)
