  1. Dude, this is way impressive. The drumming in particular strikes me as very different from the usual electronically-produced track, mainly in it's complexity. The overall difficulty of this song, both in its making and its ability to be understood by the average layman, is to be respected. In two words: nice work. :nicework:

  2. Whoa, this is so Big Beat it hurts. But in a good way. The synths chosen fit perfectly for their assigned tasks, and mad kudos go for the nice use of digital aliasing.

One small note for the people questioning the judge's hesitation of posting this: The song may be awesome, but you have to ask yourself "How much awesomeness is the result of the remixer, and how much is the result of the original composer." And in this case, it was close. Although if the judges had refused this track it woulda been a damn shame.

Although Big Beat may have been absolutely hated by every pioneering electronica artist of the 90's, it's cool to see someone keeping the dream alive. Don't stop, tefnek. :nicework:

  3. Damn, this is great stuff. Something about the way the whole thing's been put together makes it just have a groove all its own. The one problem I have is a minor one. I think the organ actually gets a little annoying after a while, being mixed so far in the front and repeating over and over. Small gripe that noone else seems to have, so I must be crazy or something. Other than that, this is a great remix of one of my favorite songs from Double Dragon. One of my favorite childhood games. :nicework:

  4. A nice little mix with all the elements in the right place. It brings the funk, the NRG, and the grooviness, with Sakura samples thrown in for good measure. (Which I generally liked more than hated, actually) The end was awesome, except I think the laugh was a little much. I think it would've sounded better ending on her victory phrase alone. But overall this mix really has a lot goin on and keeps the interest well. :nicework:

  5. This has been on mah playlist for a good 6 months now, and I still love it. I know all the lyrics and when I rap along, I make sure to sound as white as possible, to capture the feel SGX has. In all seriousness though, I really do love this mix and while I used to think there was too much distortion on the vocals, I've become accustomed to it and wouldn't have it any other way now. Real glad to finally see this on OCR.

  6. This mix has got groove out the wazzoo. The fun just does not stop with this remix. The lo-fi samples combined with the smooth guitar combined with the catchiness of your typical NES song just makes this a total keeper. To me, it sounds like what would happen if DJ Shadow, Zamphir, Kraftwerk, and Santana decided to do a remix of an old Japanese themesong. But I'll just stop now, cuz I've had this song on repeat for a while now and I can't think straight with that infectious melody blaring in my head.

    :nicework: :nicework:

  7. Sweet! A remix of One Winged Angel! And it doesn't blow! <=O Kick me in the junk and call me a priest, I never thought I'd see the day. I'm impressed, there are a lot of ideas crammed into this remix. There's an oboe playing beside an electric guitar that's playing beside a choir beside cheesy synth bass. Now, combining this variety of sounds into one cohesive song would be a challenge enough, but this song manages to pack all this magic into a remix of One Winged Angel - the definitive "impossible to remix" song. I tip my hat to you, sir. This is damn fine work. :nicework:

EDIT: Oh man, I didn't even catch that small section of the main theme stuck in at 2:02. Crazy.

  8. I like this piece. The weak sampleset isn't as big a factor as it was in his orchestral remix, and I think it gives it a nostalgic feel. It sounds for the most part like an upgraded SNES song, which is what it is. And because it's a quirky little piece that touches my heart with it's over-the-top musical stylings in wondrously low-quality synth style. :nicework:

  9. I'm not so sure why DJP is so crazy about this mix. Everything is just fantastic, the guitar, the pads, everything. Then the flute comes in. If there's one way to make one part of a song destroy the rest, it's by making it too loud and MIDI-ish. Unfortunately, texxsound has done just that. I love everything in this song except that dad-blasted flute. Everytime it shows up, I cringe. So while I like parts of the song, I can't say I love the whole song. And that's pretty much solely thanks to the flute.

    =( 'Tis a shame.
