Hi @Bundeslang.  First, I want to sincerely thank you for keeping PRC going for as long as you did.  PRC was a huge part of my development as an artist in the early days of OCR along other older competitions like IMC and I made a lot of collabs and friends in these competitions.  I am no longer making music, nor I am around online much but when I saw the email about this PRC being the last I had to jump in to salute and thank you and the oher artists.
I would say the absolute best part of being part of the community by far were PRC and other compos.  The constraints of the competitions I felt really helped me break out of some walls, and some of the remixes I made here both as sir_nuts and as showroom dummy made the jump to the front page.
Again thank you and all of those who participated over the years.  Hope you are doing great and wish you nothing but the absolute best in the future.

The People's Remix Competition Final Round (PRC472)
    PRCv20-13

Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition!

    This round is located at:
    https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC472

Source: Free Round (Every source is allowed, including making originals)
This will be the last round of PRC. Since it's getting harder to get any songs in and I also lack time myself to be very active in it I decided to put it to an end. I don't feel anything for changing the setup of the contest or promoting it more. I'm happy that I kept it running this long. Many rounds got a good amount of songs and a voting stage but the last years it was hard to get any contributions. Still, PRC469 was the first round without an entry. I don't want this going with much rounds without entries, after 20 years it is good to end this contest. It's been a long time since I took over PRC from Rexy (after PRC130 back in October 2008, 15 years ago). The contest itself started back in late 2003. I want to thank everyone for this long, long time.
If someone really not wants to end PRC and wants to take over the organisation of PRC he/she is free to start season 21 next year. Send me a PM if you want this to happen.

Of course, PRC will not before there's a Final Round.
It's a Free Round. Feel free to remix whatever you like, also making an original mix is allowed. You can also submit multiple songs.
The remixing stage is the longest ever in the PRC history, over two months of time to make a good remix.

The deadline is Tuesday December 26th 2023 at 10:59 am ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT), check the link https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC472 for the exact time left. Make sure that the song is uploaded to ThaSauce or that there’s a download link posted in this thread. This is the longest remixing stage ever in PRC.
You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that if you use ThaSauce, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix if you use ThaSauce. Of course you can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread.
Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread.
Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score.
The winner of this round will be the last winner of a PRC round. No next round will happen so there's no need to pick a source for next round.

You can find the full rules list at this page as well.

    GOOD LUCK!

Sir_NutS got a reaction from Jorito in OCR04345 - *YES* Xenogears "Dancing in the Sky"
I've listened to this one already before.  As always, Jorrith brings a very interesting pop take, this time with an 80's edge.  The vocals by Fiddle are a bit dry and the singing isn't perfect, especially when trying to go to the edges of his range.  I think a bit of extra correction in those cases would've made it better, as you can almost feel the strain on some of the higher sustained notes.  Otherwise, the vocals work and so does the vocoding.  The backing arrangement is basic and it just drives the sax and vocal melodies, but there's nothing wrong with that and just works in the track's favor to make it sound more authentic.  I enjoyed the sax performance the most, very good stuff.

Sir_NutS and DKC! What a combo. I love everything about this remix, the synth work, the gating, the beat chops, and the overall energy level gets me so hyped! It's busy but really well mixed too which allows the detail to be heard. I think this'll be a fan favourite given how close it is to the source, which as a fellow Fear Factory remixer, I can confirm is superb.

I'm very happy with the development that Jorito keeps showing as a musician with each new song.  He's now able to tackle pretty much any genre and nail it on all fronts, and this mix is a good example of that.  Solid composition, attention to detail in the sequencing of the instruments and a lot of feeling injected into his interpretation of this song.  Very mellow feeling to this one, and pretty obviously over the bar.
I can only see even greater things coming from Jorito in the future.

Ah yeah I've listened to this quite a few times during its production.  This went through quite a few versions, Jorito is very dedicated to getting the mix just right and issue-free.  Needless to say I think production is fine, though I did warn about the cluttering of instruments in some sections, but that goes with Jorito's style and it doesn't get too bad to become chaotic, I do wish these sections lowered the harmonies a bit to bring the leads to the forefront a bit more.  Also: vocoding = auto YES (not really).
Guitar work is clean, and the arrangement is the shining point here, widely expanding what's on the original.

Hey folks, a quick update on the project status: sadly, there's now zero tracks from the Riders trilogy, so if you could help us to fill the gap, that would be very appreciated! Vocal tracks from these games are a little more prefered, since they would act nicely as an album opener. Here are some suggestions (note: some songs have multiple versions, it's fine to pick any of them):
Sonic Speed Riders (Sonic Riders) Catch Me If You Can (Sonic Riders) / (Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity) Un-gravitify (Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity) / (Crush 40 version) Free (Sonic Free Riders) / (Crush 40 version) However, if there's any other track from the Riders games you'd like to tackle, let me know!
I've also updated the list of available games! Chao races (both SA1 and SA2) are now valid options! SA2 also has a kart mini-game and 2P mode which I completly forgot about, so my apologies for ignoring the Adventure games the whole time They are optional, but would be nice to have too!

Sir_NutS got a reaction from timaeus222 in OCR04143 - *YES* Chrono Cross & Chrono Trigger "Serenity & Grace"
Unsurprisingly this is a very good, very well-crafted arrangement.  Tim does a very good job when he's mixing different sources (guess those Darkesword compos paid off!) and the source breakdown is always appreciated.  There are some sections that get a little too busy but it doesn't detract from the arrangement.  Production is very clean as always.  Really loved the piano on this one, it's very detailed but it doesn't try to take over the leads, and it's very fun to follow it.  I thought the segue into scars of time around the second minute was flawless too.
This track has a lot of Future Bass elements (and structure) too, just a bit on the mellower side.
Sorry I don't have that much else to say, it's just a very well produced and arranged track, and we're used to getting that from Tim.  I guess that's more of a compliment!

So I figured it's been a long time since I posted anything here, and I think it's a good time for some kind of update!
First of all, the progress is being made. In fact, two tracks are nearly completed aside from a few final touches and mastering!  Second, a couple of tracks got dropped since the last post, but we've also got a new remixer to balance the things a bit - @Jamphibious grabbed Sonic 3 a few days ago! The project has finally got a sound engineer - @Chimpazilla was kind enough to handle the mastering, and I'm really thankful for that My good friend Flan agreed to draw all the art for us! She doesn't have any web page, but here are a few examples of her work! That's all for now!

Sir_NutS got a reaction from Rexy in OCR04175 - *YES* Journey to Silius "Cyber Chrome"
    Synthwave and journey to silius?
    Do you read my diary?
I dig it.  It's not super expansive but imo the original is so good you don't really need to do a lot with it.  This remix relies a lot on arpeggios and filter automation to keep things moving and varied.  My main issue with this one is that it feels pretty static throughout.  I was hoping for a break but I don't feel like I ever got one, and that caused the buildup around 3:10 to have less impact for me.  I feel like the vocaloid is not meshing that well with the rest of the mix, feels like it's on top of everything else yet outside of the mix.  It's probably a bit too exposed and needed a bit more work to make it feel part of the mix as a whole.
Besides these gripes, production and arrangement are solid.  This is a solid mix.

Very good production here, with tons of details in the performances, and some very interesting tempo switches.  Now, the other Js are on the side of too little source usage here, but I'm going to disagree.  At first glance, Rexy's count looks damning, but there's a lot of silence and tension release in those sections that aren't counted as "source" that shouldn't be counted, in my opinion.  One example is right off the start when the intro hits, the tally doesn't count the first 6 seconds but that's not really fair since this is just a setup and the song really only starts in full after the initial percussion hits.  I found that there are other cases where not counting some sections as source is kinda pointless so for me, this is good on source usage.  The only section where the track clearly veers off the original is around the second minute, but this was a welcome change in my opinion, and also it's not long enough or feels disconnected enough from the source,  and it also expanded the track in quite interesting ways as well.
I am for seeing this on the front page, it think it evokes the originals throughout even in sections that are mostly new.

The track takes a more up tempo approach to Roxas's theme blending elements of both his calm and battle theme together while also introducing original brass and wind section arrangements where traditionally, the song was mostly comprised of strings and piano. Rhythm also has more of a D&B feel to it as well. Structure wise, theme C doesn't play till much later in the song (2:22 and then again at 3:45) rather than directly after the iconic theme B (0:32 aka F,A,E ...etc.). I only vaguely touch on theme A in the beginning. Interestingly enough, the arrangement also takes some inspiration from PSO2 and FF13.
    ENJOY!
