  1. Hey OCR!

I'm back with another mixtape for ya! Once again, I've checked the roolz to make sure I can post this here and I think I'm in the clear...Lemme know if I'm not!

To celebrate Halloween and all its twisted insanity, I've just polished up and released my newest CD - AMADEUS RORSCHACH. It's available for your streaming and downloading pleasure here:

    NAVI - AMADEUS RORSCHACH

I'd love to know what you think of it! Please share if you care!

Thanks! I now open the floor for questions, comments or snide remarks...

  2. Oh, hey. Look at that! :)

The samples were created for the mix, then run through some processing, chopped up, resampled and played out. So essentially, the original versions of all the loops I made (which sound a LOT more like the source material) were then remixed to give it that old school hip hop feel. And yes, I made this mix from scratch with the intention of it being a Parappa mix, not just throwing the label on a generic song I created.

    Hopefully, that'll answer some questions?

Glad you all enjoyed this! It's good to have a new mix back up on the site where I learned how to make music. Hopefully, more to follow!

PS: Sorry I haven't been around at all recently...Also, thanks to Larry for changling up the namesake! Much appreciated

  3. (Once again, using my alloted monthly site remixer music post)

Hullo OCR! How've you been? Long time no see.

Nine months after the release of my debut album GRAYSCALE, I present to you - fresh off the presses - my second digital mixtape Lo Fi Muey Thai!

    lofimueythaicoversm.png

Never one to stick to a defined style, I’ve begun branching out into new sounds and textures, expanding the limits of what I consider hip hop. Fear not! You will still find my traditional lyrical repertoire intact and the beats, as always, are home-brewed to the finest levels of quality. Be prepared, however, to hear strains of dance and industrial music, conceptual science fiction, and instrumental overtures added into the mix. Yup.

Oh, PS. There's a track on here that's actually soon to be posted on this site. Sorry for ruining the surprise a bit. :(

This mixtape features collaborations with OCR remixer SGX (Right Back Up), DC emcee Reemstarr (Sack This City), and producer Danny Fal (The Incredible Human Putty, Chewing up the Scenery). Furthermore, I tackle some remake/remixes with my own versions of Cee-Lo’s Fuck You (featuring Kurt ‘Fingerbang’ Canfield), Dutch’s California Cloaked in Wool, and Roisin Murphy’s Overpowered.

As always, this digital mixtape is free for your listening or downloading pleasure. All I ask is that if you like what you hear, spread the word to as many people as you can! Please link to my website on the facebook/myspace/twitter/social media black-hole of your choosing and pass the love on. If you don’t like it, hey I can’t fault you. Feel free to tell me why.

Go download it and I hope you enjoy!

  4. As much as I love this show, the amount of slow motion, emotion milking shots in the premiere was almost too much to handle. :P

That much being said, I didn't notice that Sun and Jin were not married...that was underplayed as all hell. Good ear, GT!

  5. Submitted to OCR as well. Hopefully it'll meet arrangement standards (it uses pieces of chop chop, cake, and toilet). If not, however, here's the track.

You like rap? I made this in that old school RZA/Wu Tang style. you might like this.

    lyrics and shit

at a young age cooking with kerosene

pan fried apple green, recipes in magazines

    top chef, before home ec

developed his own tech to keep the dough fresh

and keep the flow wet, keep the stove running

deliver hot wraps, had to preheat the oven

word got around, other chefs were summoned, but someone

stole the whole book and left the kid with nothing

    he got jaded fast,

first showcase might have be the last,

forecast icy, fire's not pretty if it

leads to meltdown in the chocolate city

but it's all in your mind,

chop that beat, make em hit rewind

fry those rhymes, sautee that spinach

it's all in your mind, souflee these critics

cause it's all in your mind,

chop that beat, make em hit rewind

fry those rhymes, sautee that spinach

it's all in your mind, souflee these critics

    rematch, they all went livid

back on the scene, no props or gimmicks or

    obnoxious microwaved toxic dinners

it's the wholefood certified slop apprentice

lines so sweet they could drop a dentist

homebrew king when he topped the guinness,

whoa, stop a minute, he's skipping through his life

in that old kitchen p-p-pushing to the limit

    he let that perculate,

made a new track, wasn't worth the plate

behind his back, new beef increased steaks

hotshot foes saw time to hate

caught him at a demo of a ginsu blade

    waylaid, assault and pepper sprayed

took the bread made, plus the grade A green

that he grew with his hands and the money he saved

but it's all in your mind,

chop that beat, make em hit rewind

fry those rhymes, sautee that spinach

it's all in your mind, souflee these critics

cause it's all in your mind,

chop that beat, make em hit rewind

fry those rhymes, sautee that spinach

it's all in your mind, souflee these critics

kick, punch, they found him bleeding

stewing in the kitchen, boiling pot steaming

hand on a whetstone, blade tip gleaming

hurt me, I'm gonna cold turkey these demons

    seething, not seeing clearly, nearly

poisoned a fan with his hands so filthy

bad boy of the culinary sciences went

    trashed all his appliances

it went south, lost all the hype

numbness and gout and the stove won't light

plus he can't taste now so he rots in waste

took his name off the menus top slot disgraced,

Moved for a change of pace, ditched the rhymebook

Didn't even try it as an amatuer line cook

Ten years drank beer sank into misery

    Bake out, takeout, shawshank imagery

Till one day when he's old and gray

scar on his tongue's long faded away

so he tries to spray, surprise when it sizzles

    Like kid I missed you

cause it's all in your mind, air out the fridge

and the light will shine, maybe one more time

he can spin those tables with another homebrew fable

but it's all in your mind,

chop that beat, make em hit rewind

fry those rhymes, sautee that spinach

it's all in your mind, souflee these critics

cause it's all in your mind,

chop that beat, make em hit rewind

fry those rhymes, sautee that spinach

it's all in your mind, souflee these critics

  6. I don't get it. Is this cool? Can't you just

    1.) download ACID

    2.) download accapellas

3.) put them together in ACID

    4.) put drum beat under

    ?

Can't disagree with you there. As far as mashups go, there's nothing too imaginative done with these ones, save for the (personal) glee I got upon hearing Ante Up on top of the battle theme. I've been listening to the Beatles vs Wu Tang mash up CD (I know, beatles mashups are played out) and if you want a better example of a GOOD mashup CD, I would recommend that one.

  7. Alright, I don't claim to be any sort of expert on dubstep (although it is a style of music that I do enjoy) but I'll try my hand at some constructive criticism here.

    Production

I like that billowing bass you use. Definitely heard that used in dubstep tracks before. The 'booting up' sequence at the beginning works for the most part although it seems a bit...sparse? For that matter, the entire A section of this track seems lacking. From what I've heard of dubstep, there's a lot of attention to atmosphere and your A section seems to be a bit too dry to really set the dark mood associated with the genre.

Furthermore, the drums don't really pack the punch necessary for a hard hitting dance track. This is something that can always be remedied in the mixing/mastering stage, but it's usually better to start off with strong samples rather than try and beef up weak ones later on. That snare crackle in particular has no pop to it, so it ends up sounding more like a splat. Especially at that fill and the following break, the drum samples don't hit as hard or as effectively as they should.

Now, in the B section (the arrangement section), everything sounds cluttered. You've got all these spacy sounds and samples just hitting constantly and continuously so there's no real point of attention for the listener (despite the lead playing the theme). Possibly building these layers of lasers and SFX up over a period of time behind the lead, so that the listener can discern what s/he is supposed to focus on. Also, that bass disappeared. You should incorporate that into the 'main' remix.

    Arrangement

Less on this end. I didn't hear the earlier WIP you posted, but it sounds to me like you just tacked the theme on to the B section so people can make it out as a Robo remix. Possibly build hints and riffs from the theme into your A section to give the song cohesion. Since the bass from the A section is gone once the remix comes in, it seems like that whole first part was...unnecessary? I realize this is a very short WIP but hopefully this'll help you flesh it out more.

    Good luck!

  8. No one song in particular, I was just wondering if you had the lyrics written down anywhere (or if you just memorized them).

I got the lyrics to most of the Grayscale tracks typed up. I've uploaded some (Soundcheck, Encore, Grayscale) to the bandcamp track pages. A few of the others need to be typed up.

    i can help you thurr

Yeah? Let's make this happen. Hit me up via PM or AIM or something. Even if I'm working, I'll try and check back.

  9. Didn't you get murdered?

    Yes

Long time no see man, you need to hit us up on IRC again. Haven't talked to you in forages.

I usually go undercover during forages.

    squirrel4.jpg

Of course I remember you, myf. We've done too much shit shooting in the past to not. You planning on sticking around, or is this just a brief visit (like what so many other regulars who left do periodically)?

A little bit of both? I definitely want to get some remixes back under my belt, but I have no idea what to do.

  10. hex's my room mate now. I'll bug him. It's the last week in June this year, fyi.

Hey, if we can make it happen I'd love to.

    F U MYF!

You think you can just appear out of nowhere after disappearing on me all those years ago? HELL NO! I hate your guts A HOLE!

*Goes and plays Suikoden II OST - Reminiscence to remember days past ;_; *

Thanks, weed! That means a lot. Glad you're enjoying it.

If anyone is interested in the production behind this album, I've written a bit about it here.

Edit: also, who can I talk to about updating the photo on my remixer page. I have no idea who that fat fucker is...:P
