  1. Wooo Chi likey this concept~! (Of course.) I gotta try and get out an entry!

And yeah...sorry I haven't been around. Or like, participating. *headdesk* I've been busy with this other art contest on deviantART... In my defense though, there's a prize of ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. And I got announced now as a semi-finalist. >_> Am I allowed to pimp that to you guys here? If not, um, kick me in the shins.

It's the Design Battle 2010 on dA, to choose new t-shirt designs... I'm a contendaaa~ if you're so inspired, please vote for me by +fav and commenting. :3 The link: http://deviantwear.deviantart.com/art/Semi-Finalist-quot-dLICIOUS-quot-159715366

    ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS YOU GUYS.

    *pelted with fruit into oblivion*

Right, FAC, I'm gonna go come up with an idea now.

  2. Giant pic of Aya Brea

    This x1000!

Honestly, to me the most important thing about any character is whether they are well-developed and interesting. If they're a little sexualized, but the focus is on the character's personality and goals, I don't mind at all. The great thing about Aya from Parasite Eve is that the whole story is her story; it's not about her appearance or her being some dude's love interest. She pretty much saves the world by being a good cop. She's pretty but practically dressed (at least in the first one) and I really appreciated that. Even in PE2 (with its shower scene) she's still a strong character with a lot of development and personal motivation, and that's what makes her so appealing to me.

In a game where there's not much character development, I like the females to be at least as powerful as the males :/ Kinda tired of the healer woman stereotype. Yeah, Lady from DMC3 wasn't as tough as Dante, but she was still a badass, and I liked her. X3 That game's totally ridiculous anyway (but fun as hell.)

As a female, I don't think game developers really have any clue what makes a game appeal to us as a gender (if there even is single thing that could do so.)

  3. I strongly recommend Anamu & Maki! I'm not honestly sure if you'd call them just "pop" though. Almost kind of folk?

...After much searching as I type this post, I can't find tracks from the album I was going to recommend anywhere online and apparently the album itself is out of print -_- Fail. The one song by them on Youtube isn't very representative. But! if you feel like a hunt, here's the album info.

  4. fucking yes part II!!!

I remember playing that game with only a boost button, no break/stop button on my joystick, if I recall Easydizzy was beatened'd, Spindizzy was a little more then impossible... oh and I never used the camera rotation option... lol didn't' know what keyboard key that was.

All right! *high five* Finally, someone who appreciates this game. Fortunately, I had the ability to brake, but I played the SNES port, which is kinda broken, so...

Also, apparently ZAMN is available as a Wii Virtual Console game? Why was I not informed!?

  5. Little Nemo: The Dream Master (NES) - Also had a movie that I liked when I was young.

    YES

I loved that game. Surreal and beautiful. It was also hard.

I submit the side-scrolling space shooter/RPG Sigma Star Saga for GBA. It had some flaws, but a compelling story and I thought it was a really novel idea. Also, the isometric puzzler Spindizzy Worlds (Amiga/SNES) was really hopelessly addicting, but hardly anyone seems to have played it.

  6. Let it be known that I suck at this. I can't get past 24 lines in this game. I'm not sure whether to blame the rotating screen or my own ineptitude.

EDIT: Ok, just made it to 32. Still, I need MORE!

You can do it! Eventually it barely makes you dizzy at all. The best I've been able to do so far is 93 lines (but I usually fail out around stage 6.) After a while, though, it seems like it's moving too fast to possibly keep up. Yet, I can't stop playing :/

  7. Interesting clip there. Thanks for the post, Chiral. It's got me interested in this upcoming album or sure...

Glad you liked it dude :D I'll post more info if I run across any.

Also, as an aside...It's not okay to post links to songs on YouTube, right? I've never posted links to music here before and it seems like it's not allowed if it's not an official account for the band. I want to make sure, since I figure more people would check this band out if I posted such a link.

    ...Maybe.

  8. Ever since I stumbled across their 2007 album Crossroads, I fell in love with these guys. It's sort of a mix between ebm/futurepop and progressive trance... And most of their albums tell a connected and surreal dark scifi story. Whee!

But anyway, their NEXT album, due out in February (thank you mailing list!), is, well, here's what their website says:

"This February will see the release of a new album called "R.E.T.R.O."

An homage to the era of the Commodore 64 and 1980s video games, the album will even include a few cover versions of cult classics.

    Stay tuned."

Accompanied by a clip on their homepage with a nice cut from the new album.

So yeah, needless to say, I'm (probably excessively) excited!

Does anyone else know or like this band? I know I haven't seen a whole lot of discussion of futurepop/EBM/industrial/dark electro (etc., etc.) music here, but I thought I'd bring them up... I'm really curious to see how the new album presents the "retro" theme (chiptuney synths like Code64?) and what classic tunes they're going to cover.

If you haven't heard their stuff, I recommend damn near all of Crossroads, especially "Into the Night," "Amnesia," and "Redefined." "Unicorn" from the Certainty single and "The Dream" from Dreamweb are also favorites. You can hear a lot of these at their last.fm page here.

(P.S. Code64's 'Starchaser' opens with "The last metroid is in captivity...")

  9. I think I'm just going to let November's competition spill over into December. Rambo's right, I highly doubt things are going to get less busy for people this month.

Would you guys like me to set a formal deadline with a voting period and a winner, or would you just prefer to post entries to the thread throughout the month and we'll have a spanking new theme (like maybe some that The Coop suggested) come January 2010? The latter would be more chill, no pressure, just submit whatever, whenever.

Hahaha, I don't think this is your fault as a theme picker, Chiral (nice sig btw). I enjoy the open themes too, as opposed to the game specific themes.

That works for me. If people wanna do the steampunk thing they can or just submit whatever, whenever as The Coop says, that's cool as long as it motivates people to draw I guess XD

But I'll love you more if you draw me steampunk. :(

(Thanks bonzai! <3 I had made a similar sig for an ffxi forum that's not active anymore, so I figured it was going to waste not being used somewhere!)

  10. I don't think we were going to have the FAC in December as it was, (what with final exams/holiday commitments) so we could just leave December as an open invitation to start, improve, or finish current steampunk entries. And either way start the competition fresh in the new year?

I think this is a good idea. :o I mean, it seems like people had ideas, but not enough time to do them, and December is just gonna get busier.

I'd be kinda sad to just do a challenge that's like, "Draw this game!" That's boring to me...I dunno, I like the idea of working within a theme that lets you choose the game but has to meet other criteria. Also, that way people who haven't played certain games can still participate, you know?

    (Also testing my sig~)

  11. A friend linked me to this game and after trying the demo, I had to buy it. Love it! Some of the puzzles are actually pretty tricky. And I love how the little robot digs music and dances whenever he hears some, haha.
