  1. UPDATE 2: Latest version post feedback See this post for details. --- PREVIOUS UPDATE: Finished version ready for tweaking and fine tuning per your feedback https://soundcloud.com/user-227517766/trance-in-the-mines-life-in-the-mines-dkc-ready-for-feedback I added some more sounds (notably toms and some ambient pad), reverb and a somewhat proper ending. A section from the factory level makes a guest appearance. Kick and snare got a new sample, but the snare remains a bit of an issue I'm afraid. Overall I like it well enough. It started out as a bit of a joke remix, but gradually it grew on me. I'd like to submit it to the judges *lightning strikes* *wolf howls* - 0_0 - after I did all I could to add the finishing touches based on your feedback. Your input is much appreciated. The more specific you can be, the better (i.e. tell me at what point in the track something doesn't sound right or whatever). Thanks! --- Hello strangers I'd like to share with you a remix project that kind of materialized in my brain while I was supposed to be working on something else. This is a trance remix of Donkey Kong Country's mine level theme (Life in the mines). And by trance, I mean the kind of trance that I listened to growing up, mainly between the years 1999 and 2002. I just wanted to see if I could pull something like that off in FL Studio. I'm still learning to properly mix channels and all that good stuff, which no doubt will "show" through. I figured this would be a good exercise for that. Basically I'm going for that "old school" (European) trance feel. I'm not trying to be super original here. The track is still a work in progress. I plan on doing another breakdown/buildup thing at the end of it. I'm having serious trouble with volume. Somehow my own generated mp3's all sound really uhm, not loud. I'm not sure if its just my laptop, or my old PC speakers, or my crappy headphones. I'd like to invest in a good set of headphones for this kind of work soon enough. At this point I can at least tell the hi-hat is on the loud side, while the kick is possibly too soft. Anyway, what do you think? Am I on the right track producing that classic buildup/breakdown/buildup trance feel? Do these transitions work? Have I used a wide enough range of pitches (not sure if that's the right term there). PS: I made this from memory, and there is possibly a Halo influence in there which coincided with what I think the chords should be. PPS: for the title I have two options in mind: "Trance in the Mines" or "Frog Induced Trance" (a reference to Winky the frog, who appears in the first level this track plays in in the game). 2. An extremely rough first draft. I'm playing the flute...but I don't have a mic right now, so I recorded my playing with a cell phone, and it shows. Wow, it sure sounds different on SoundCloud, the EQ is even more harsh. Oh well, it's a work in progress, after all:-D Edit 4-29-18 Redid this with a cheap mic I found laying around the house. Sounds a little better, I think. I'm going to redo this at some point this coming week if I have the time, the performance here has some rough spots.
  3. Hello again Here is another WIP for a remix I'm working on. I'm trying to create a medley comprised of tracks that feature a certain pattern of notes and have similar chords. I had the following in mind: 1. Aerith's Theme (FF7) 2. Halo theme - bonus ending (see video at end of post) 3. Mermaid theme from Donkey Kong 64 4. A track from Xenoblade titled "Thoughts to a friend" The status of this track is that most of the FF7 part is done. There is a notable drop of instruments near 1:10, which is where I last quit. The Halo part is probably 50% done. I need to work on the ending/transition to the next part, which is tricky because I have to go from 3/4 time to 4/4 time. Part of the mermaid theme is already in there at the end, but I haven't done any original work on that yet. It just sits there as a placeholder. I could use some feedback on the transition parts and the overall composition. I've used MuseScore 2 with some fancy soundfonts, but it will probably need to move to FL Studio eventually for more control over channels and humanization. I'm also taking suggestions for a more fitting title Enjoy! https://soundcloud.com/user-227517766/the-day-gamers-lost-their-girlfriend-wip Sources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIqKWLkm2-g The bonus part starts at 3:20
  4. Hey, I'm currently working on a new mix and would like your feedback on what I have so far. My Remix: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1P0uffVk8ynQ1Yk58Sb2BIgIDu2I17FHD Original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5CnV7mnhbs Thanks for listening
  5. Hi, So I think the arrangement is close to done, but I need some advice on mixing. https://t.co/nbwZ1I6gc7 I'm kind of new to audio production, so I'm really open to any advice at all. I know there are places where I need to do something, but I'm not sure what. Thanks, I hope I'm doing this right. I'm kind of shy.
  6. 2018 UPDATE: It is still in Musescore 2, but I'm taking a decisive turn towards an orchestral version instead of EDM. I hope to be able to finish it one of these days because this is taking me forever. Most of the mix is done. I'm stuck at the end due to a thing with the soundfont, and I was hoping to do a new section in between somewhere. https://soundcloud.com/user-227517766/folly-fire-2018-orchestral-update-wip I'm unsure about the transitions. At first they didn't sound right, but after a while I got used to it and I started to think its okay. I could use someone's fresh perspective on it. Previous UPDATE: FL Studio Version Hello, I'm a new user here and I would like to share a remix that I am working on with you guys and ask some basic feedback about the project in its current stage of development. Before jumping in, please consider the follow comments, to get an idea of where I am coming from and what I'm trying to accomplish. I am looking for feedback on some specific points. Tracks Used So I tried to combine a number of BGM's from the classic Gameboy game 'Volley Fire'. During development I noticed some easy to make connections with snippets from Starfox's Corneria theme, so I put those in as well. That gets us the following list: Stage Select (VF) Stage A (VF) Stage B (VF) Corneria (SF) I wanted to at least give the old source tunes a sound update and create a progressively expanding scene, adding more instruments, driven by a nice beat. I initially started playing around on the piano, going on my memory of the original tracks, but soon found out my memory was slightly off. But this created some nice variation that makes it a more true remix. What I'd Like Feedback On You should know that I have only started making music since november 2014. I have made a number of private compositions since, and this would be my second "completed" video game remix. I do not have professional music making software, but rather am using MuseScore2, which is a notation program. For that reason, I am not looking for feedback on the quality of sounds and instrument samples. I know these are lacking. Mastering is not too much of a concern at this point either, because the program isn't made to do that. Until I can invest in something like Fruity Loops, I want to limit the scope to other areas: Does the overall composition work? Do you think the transitions between sections are alright, or are they too sudden or weird? What would be a good way to transition them nicely so that it feels like a whole? Is the total length alright? Does the track have enough variety, keeping it interesting enough to listen to from beginning to end? What do you think of my use of the source material? Is it 'remixy' enough? I realize that sound quality and mastering might effect how you answers some of these questions, but hopefully this will be useful enough anyway. Thanks for taking the time to listen and respond! Looking forward to learning from you guys and becoming a better musician in the process. Remix Link Find the track on SoundCloud here: https://soundcloud.com/user-227517766/folly-fire-volley-fired-feedback-ready I'm naming it either "Folly Fire" or "Volley Fire'd", probably preferring the first. 7. Hello ancestral Here is a job I do for the Tenma Faraway Promise of Xenogear. Echo in FL Studio 12. Remastered in LAND https://soundcloud.com/marlon-rodr-guez-colombiologo/xenoremaster
  8. Hiya! Well here it goes! I was recently playing this game again from childhood and out of all the tracks I chose this one to try to remix. (Death Stage) I don’t have a computer or even speakers at the moment just headphones and I used the Auxy Music Studio app to mix. If anything I hope it’s somewhat enjoyable to listen to and it would be great to receive some advice. : ) Heres the original : https://youtu.be/4tvCfyOoAII Heres the remix: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-whA2-6QyA2yA_IHU_FV2W_ZQbo6ke4D
  9. This track has literally sat for years, the original source file lost long ago between computer upgrades. I listen to the MP3 I managed to save every now and then, think it sounds good, and that I should probably get back around to it, someday. Well, that day might as well be today. Behold: Chrysalis, a remix of SaGa Frontier's Alone. I went for a Crystal Castles kind of feel for it, so it comes off a little discordant, especially the lead synth. Granted, that synth could probably use some equalizing, especially on the sustained notes. I feel like I it may be a little too close to the source material as it is. All feedback is welcome. Thank you for listening.
  10. I started this some years ago, and now im thinking about reentering the remix-scene and get some feedback. I was trying some more "movie like" approach, like a tense scene that is building up to a battle.
  11. Hi everyone; newest remix here. I've tried to make the strings sound a bit more natural in this one, hence the hiatus in trying to get it just right, but aside from the sound, I devoted this piece to exploring and developing only a couple of thematic ideals; primarily Zelda's Lullaby. It's a Fantasia for Full Orchestra and Chorus, which contains material from a few of the Game Soundtracks in the LoZ series. I explored the different ways the Lullaby could be orchestrated and manipulated in terms of mood, timbre and contrapuntal manipulation, not just on its own, but with other themes closely associated to Zelda, most plainly in the central part, focussing on the endless relationship between Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf/Ganon throughout the whole series, and finally culminating, through its triumphant ending, the ultimate victory of good.
  12. Hey guys! This is the first remix I've ever produced, and I would love to hear your feedback! I would especially love some on the production side, as I feel it's my deepest weakness as a beginner. Rough form aside, I hope you enjoy it! https://drive.google.com/open?id=156-_fa2bOLi7Tx5baFgX3XG5y3Is59TD
  13. Took me a while but here's another cover from me. As I had no intention to continue working on the Magus cover posted a few weeks ago, I moved on to other projects including this one. I think my mix has been cleaned up quite a bit, and progress is being made, but as always there is surely something to improve on. Let me know what you think!
  14. Hey OCRemix, This is a remix of the Cipher Syndicate's theme from Pokemon Colosseum. This has been a project for a month on and off as a friend suggested that I should remix this track and see where it goes as we both love Pokemon Colosseum! I'm still very much a greenhorn when it comes to composition and production, and I'm still very happy with what I made and can't wait for people to listen to it. I eventually want to be able to have remix up on OCR and would like feedback in terms of what I could do better on this remix, and others that will come after. I hope I can at least make someone's day with my music. Here is the source: .Here is my take on it. Thank you for listening to a newbie's remix.
  15. Hello there! Before I prepare to send in my "resubmit", I would like to seek some guidance from the folks here on the forums. I'll include a link to the judge's comments below this paragraph. The focus of the critique was the production side of things, as I had numerous issues with balance (EQ, volume, panning) that needed addressing. I'm happy to hear any ideas you all have about the composition itself and the instrument choices, but my main motivation for coming here is help with the production work - mixing, mastering, etc. Since reading their feedback, I've been hard at work reproducing my track to fix the issues they mentioned and a few of my own. I want to know what you guys think and if you have any other suggestions for improvement. Thanks for listening! 1. Here's a link to the current version of the track: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xb4td7ecvn93r6c/Rainbow Resort ReMix 2_22_2018.wav?dl=0 2. Here's the version of the track that the judges critiqued: EDIT: Link to the original source:
  16. So last year I submitted this track to the tender mercies of The Judges and it was summarily rejected (sob, wail etc). I've finally decided to revisit the track and would appreciate any help and suggestions on how to improve it. Source:
  17. Hi everyone ! I am currently redoing the soundtrack of the famous game "Mario & Luigi Partners In Time". I hope you will like the end result !!
  18. I apologise for the terrible title. I was (very slowly) working on an Apollo Justice follow-up to my Phoenix Wright vs Studio Ghibli orchestral theme, but found the orchestra just wasn't working. I kept hearing Kotos, Shamisens & Shakuhachis instead. Then when Logic Pro's terrible native library kicked up a few sample-related fusses, I had to use Ruan Moon Guitars, Erhu Violins, and the 'Asian' percussion kit. In other words, a terribly inaccurate range of traditional instruments! Think Kung Fu Panda meets N64 Ganbare Goemon. I'm generally pleased with how it's shaping up, but have lots of improvements in mind. Keen to get some feedback before I put too much more work into it. Here it is: And here are the sources: Thanks for listening!
  19. I started a remix of the Minish Village in a bluesier form. A little liberal in comparison to the original. Source: ReMix: Somebody Stole My Jabber Nuts
  20. I've been sitting on this one for a little over 2 years, but finally overhauled most of it December last year. So while I figure out how I want the next chunk of the song to actually go, I figured I would put this section out as it currently is. Might speed it up a little bit, might tweak the drums a bit, who knows.
  21. Hello OCRemix. Long time lurker first time 'account maker and subsequent forum poster'. Here is my remix for youuuu <3 From the first time I played Links Awakening this particular track always stuck in my head and I would find myself humming it for hours after playing. So naturally to torment myself further, I decided to use my production powers for evil and give it a remix. Thought I should tag this under Work in progress so as to not rock the boat with only just signing up to the forums to post this here. I worry its a little too derivative overall but its definitely a transformative remix in comparison to the chip tune original : Happy for any kind of feedback and criticism, let me know what you think!
  22. What's up people. This is my take on a great theme from a great game. I'm hoping somebody else's ears can help me specifically with the mixing, mastering, and audio quality. Please let me know what you think. Any critique and feedback is greatly appreciated. I'm not submitting this here but I did it to learn the style of my favorite composers. Peace Source Remix
  23. Hello everyone, New here! This is my first cover that I put on YouTube about a month ago. I want to clarify I do not plan on submitting this, I just wanted to get some feedback so I can improve my future remixes. I will welcome all the feedback I can get! I will say that I am not happy about how my leads sound in this, and that is an area I am struggling in for other projects as well. In particular, I feel they sound very thin. Does anyone have any tips? I have tried several things, more reverb, less delay, less reverb, EQing.. I am running out of ideas. Anyways like I said any feedback is appreciated, I'll take what I can get. I hope you all enjoy!
  24. Hey everyone! Made a new remix. I know Schala's theme has been done a million times but I feel like this is a different take on it. Definitely 80s inspired... Not sure if it fully qualifies as synthwave/outrun. Mix is pretty much done, and I'd like to submit this, but thought it would be prudent to pay a visit here first and get some feedback I start that process. Please share your thoughts! Original: Remix:
  25. I recorded the flute part using a relatively basic mic, and then mixed it in Logic. I only added a little bit of reverb; what else could I do to make it sound better/more interesting next time? (I'm aware my tone deteriorates a little near the end, but this is a playing problem and not a recording/mixing one.) Many thanks in advance~
