  1. Instrumental interlude to the album I'm doing did. Touhou vocal emo forever Reina is a better trumpet player than Kaori-senpai mp3: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8406298/lastremote.mp3 wav: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8406298/lastremote.wav So I guess the source is kind of dark but I shifted it to a major key but tried to keep a melancholic feeling before shifting to 4/4 time, where it gets kind of fun? I tried. Also tried not to overstay the song's welcome so it's a short song. I like short songs. Just now realizing I didn't use the melody at 2:20 of the original... oh well source: More songs like this one (they all have vocals though): find your way Or check out this other song I tried posting. touhou post-metal Thanks for your time.
  2. Hi! I did about month ago a cover that is concerning old classic SNES game called Pinocchio. It's very underrated game that has a couple of very memorable soundtracks. I did a cover for this one "Escape From Pleasure Island" which is awesome and very dark theme for Pinocchio i think . Tried to arrange it towards some more heavier and haunting atmosphere. Here is my cover: Pinocchio SNES - Escape From Pleasure Island Cover And here is the original:
  3. Hey guys, a while back we made an 8/16Bit SEGA era remix album (http://opussciencecollective.bandcamp.com/album/the-magical-sound-shower-project). Well, here's our SNES effort, so people can have playground wars arguing over which album is better . Have a listen, if you like it, download it (it's free obviously), and tell your retrogaming friends . http://opussciencecollective.bandcamp.com/album/opus-science-entertainment-system In other news, there's a new show starting on Monday (31st Aug 2015) on RadioSEGA at 8pm GMT. We teamed up with Dr. halc to make the intro theme for the show, so make sure you tune in and check it out. Much love and keep gaming and making cool music fellow remixers.
  4. And here's another Castlevania Jazz remix, i can't help doing it Source: https://youtu.be/9sX3fjpkFwk Remix: https://app.box.com/s/djlqeph9ipufvvsjtt448s8n0zpdo9cb Feedback is welcome.
  5. Took a while mixing this one, bounced it off a lot of knoweldgeable folks for advice. I'm still nowhere near 100% happy with my final mixes, but I'm a bit more confident in them these days. Lemme know what y'all think
  6. I made this some time ago to celebrate the first anniversary of Club Needlemouse. The Planet Wisp Act 1 from Sonic Colors in the style of Giorgio By Moroder. Pretty weird right? Check it out and tell me what you think about it! https://soundcloud.com/robkta/planet-by-wisp
  7. Hey there! Lots of firsts for me with this thread: first post on OCR, first game remix, first track that I take the time to actually polish. Anyway, here's my take on the main theme of Panzer Dragoon Zwei, one of my cherished games back in the Saturn days. I took the main melody (about 30-40 seconds) and for good or bad turned it into some 5min+ prog metal/rock number. I'm afraid it's quite liberal, but hopefully it doesn't cross the line. Source: ReMix: current version 31/07/2015 version (ending a bit on the loud side) older version from october 2011 (different mix and libraries) Source breakdown: 0:00 - 0:45 | Theme on bagpipes 0:45 - 1:22 | Theme variations played by the two lead guitars 1:22 - 1:40 | Original part (melody is actually borrowed from a folk song) 1:40 - 2:17 | Further variations on lead guitar and bagpipes (more loosely connected) 2:17 - 2:35 | Original part 2:35 - 3:49 | Variations on clean guitar 3:49 - 4:07 | Theme played by bass 4:07 - 4:27 | Loose variation on lead clean guitar 4:27 - 4:45 | Guitar solo loosely based on theme 4:45 - 5:04 | Theme on bagpipes, harmonized theme on lead guitar 5:04 - 5:13 | More variations on lead guitar and bagpipes 5:13 - 5:45 | Theme ending repeated Some interesting and not-so-interesting trivia about the track: - The Sky Boat in the title stands for the airship Shelcoof, which Lundi and his dragon Lagi chase throughout the whole game. But it also refers to a Scottish folk song called The Skye Boat Song, which is not an uncommon tune to play on bagpipe. I actually used the melody from this song at 1:22. - I'm pretty sure Grandia's Farewell To Sue was an inspiration for the part beginning at 3:49. This song had quite an impact on me when I was young. On an unrelated note: the soundtrack had some bagpipes in it. - The trailing melody starting on the left guitar at 5:22 is a small nod to the Witcher menu theme (see 0:55 and 1:35). Unrelated note: bagpipes in there too! - Apart from the source, I listened to the on the Alternative Elements album quite a lot. It's a bit of a stretch, but I think the strings starting at 0:35 in that song have somehow resulted in what's happening near 1:59 in my remix. - I was trying to go for a "journey" feel, so there are few parts repeated, the whole track is more like a linear progression instead of something with verses / choruses. Exceptions are 0:46 - 1:40 and 1:40 - 2:35, which are constructed identically (and alternate between 3/4 and 4/4). Many thanks in advance for your feedback!

Sending this off soon. --- Resub final candidate 1 cut out the weird section towards the end a bit more melodic now beefed up the snare sample --- Working on a resub based on the panel feedback. Done a bunch of smoothing out the mix, plus a bunch of work on the structure. Not quite sure if it's quite there yet. Some sanity checking of background elements and harmony also left. WIP 2015/03/23 ----- edit: submitted final candidate 6 Tried to make the overall mix a little less noisy: turned snares, hihat & crash down just a little, EQ'd the saw lead - additionally, adjusted lead balance a little more so it's more even across the piece. Source use starts at 0:25. The basic building block from the source is the figure that plays at . I've offset it a bit relative to the beat, and used it as the bassline. The blop-blip that starts at 00:39 and evolves to a more proper melody at 0:54 is also based on that figure. The faster figure that plays in the background at 1:26 (and elsewhere) is also based on this figure, and in spirit to the faster figure that plays at the very start of the source (but I think just the first four notes are the same). I think that's all I've used from the source, there's lots of cool material that I skipped/replaced. The bassline plays throughout and much of the melodic material is derived from the same figure. The riff that plays in the breakdown starting at 1:27 is the same thing as the bassline, only now placed on the beat, instead of offbeat like the bassline. Final candidate 1 changes: * more attention to mixing the leads * added a subtle pad and fx'd percussion to fill things out --Eino -- old: WIP: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o534cpxz6flqry1/motion%20sickness%2020120726.mp3 As per sggod89's suggestion, cut put a low pass on the square lead. Maybe should do the same on (most of) the saw too.. I also adjusted the background hums, and put a little reverb on the bass line. All in all pretty small tweaks in the update. I should mix/master this properly and mark it Finished. So I should start learning about proper mixing mastering. (: I do notice that the waveform gets a lot louder in the end where there's tons of leads going all over the place, so that'd probably need some special (levels, eq?) attention. --Eino -- old: WIP: https://www.dropbox.com/s/llhr2cxj3g67cog/motion%20sickness%2020120707.mp3 This is a tweaked version of my PRC220 entry. (In case you have heard that version, I've tweaked the structure a little and improved mixing). Arrangement-wise I've taken the basic 8-note melody/figure and based the bassline on it (I've "shifted" it to the offbeat, rhythmically) and built from there. The title is a bitter one, I would love to play Portal 2 (co-op!!!), but I get motion sickness from the game. I don't have any big ideas how to develop this further, I'm thinking I'll just need to mix/master this properly. I'm aiming to get this posted on OCR. I appreciate any comments on the track in general the recognizability of the source if the sounds sound good enough if there's anything (too) strange going on with the melodies (which are a maybe little wild at times) if the structure feels like a complete piece Thanks in advance & hope you enjoy --Eino
  9. Here's a jazz remix of the the Wily Stages 3/4 from Mega Man 3. I originally made this for the DoD Contest last month and it actually received some good feedback, so i thought why not submit it to OCR Source: https://youtu.be/iNM7ydpIysE ReMix: https://app.box.com/s/juozaj9qdbvqqqmckzce98z5ookxibyl
  10. or as I call it, "House on Haunted Bill" causing Furilas to scowl so hard his face hurts. Anyway, here's a remix I composed/arranged etc. and got Furilas to play bass on. It's a take on the Transylvania theme inspired by The Misfits, 50s and 60s rock and classic spooky cartoons! Maximum cheesiness and nostalgia! Also, %#$@ the moon! It's over-rated! https://soundcloud.com/angelcityoutlaw/ducktales-transyvlania-remix-feat-furilas Here's the source.
  11. So this went up through the JP and got mixed reviews, so I've revamped the worked considerably and now want to work on it alongside of any input the Workshop can offer. The track is intended to be an island/salsa/easy listening jam. There are some elements of tango in there as well. This is still rough of course. I feel like I have a solid foundation down. There will be acoustic guitar worked in as the final instrumentation is completed. Mixing has only been done to the extent of making things generally sit in the mix. Nothing creative yet. Nonetheless I thought, "It's ready for the workshop!" I'd love to get some feedback on direction, overall feel, and if anyone is diggin' the concept thus far. All criticism is totally welcome. 12. Hi people! I have finished my newest Street Fighter arrangement. This is actually my first cover that includes two themes in one. Here is the cover: And here are the original ones: Super Street Fighter IV - Theme of Akuma Super Street Fighter IV - Theme of Gouken It was very fun to arrange this because i love the intensity in both themes. Akumas theme is a bit more furious, while Goukens theme is more peaceful. So i wanted to bring those elements in my cover too. DAW: Mixcraft 7 Electric Guitar: Ibanez RG370 lefthanded. Bass: Mixcraft 7 Drums: EZDrummer What do you think about it? Is there something that is too loud, or too low? Every feedback is important to me .
  13. Hello all! I made a game in 3 days for the afalive game jam on the theme of disease. The objective was to make a game as accessible as possible. You can give it a try here: https://www.scirra.com/arcade/action-games/2157-health-center-1355 I would be interested by any advice or feedback on the game, and of course on the musics I made. The playlist is here: https://soundcloud.com/messire_cookie/sets/2157-health-center-ost Thanks for your time
  14. Hi! I wanted to share with you my pieces of work for a Minecraft based series called Oly and The Forest (it will be uploaded this year on this channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/GamesMoviesSTUDIOS). Except for my ongoing game, these are my first original scores. I was asking to make the opening and ending with an anxious feeling. Also, I wanted the 2 tracks to share a same them. I hope you like it and could give me some advices if needed! Opening --> https://soundcloud.com/messire_cookie/1-opening-oly-and-the-forest Ending --> https://soundcloud.com/messire_cookie/2-ending-oly-and-the-forest PS: All was made using Ableton Live. And sorry if my english has burned your eyes! PS2: Does someone know if it is possible to insert Soundcloud links directly in the post?
  15. Hey everyone. My band would like to get feedback about this track, specifically with regards to production. Thanks! Soundcloud (higher quality): https://soundcloud.com/longboxofchocolate/cool-cool-mountain-frosty-britches music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEgRZd05JrQ
  16. It's been a while since I last posted but now that school's out of the way I've had time to make more music. This time it's a pretty straightforward cover of Mega Man 7 Intro Stage. Drums are made with Logic X's Drum Kit Designer and Superior Drummer, bass and rhythm guitars are recorded with a Kemper profiler, synth lead and organ are Logic plugins. Guitar solo was played by a friend of mine. Mixing and mastering is done ITB in Logic using only stock plugins. Enjoy! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90363377/MM7_1.3.wav Here's a link to the original:
  17. Hi Everyone, I thought I'd share something simple that is not film or VGM related. For my 4 film projects I've completed thus far, reference this thread: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=42680&highlight=Paul+Levasseur My friend plays in a piano duo with his girlfriend and he strongly encouraged me to write something for them. So, I thought about what 2 pianos can do that one can't aside from more notes. This is kind of a musical solution to that. It is a very simply and open sort of a piece which is quite a contrast from other stuff I write but I think it is cool nonetheless. Of course, the antiphonal effect cannot be heard on this recording but it would be greatly enhanced with a proper stereo recording. For the performance the two pianos were beside eachother, one in front of the other. If they were panned right and left, you'd hear all the repeated notes bouncing back and forth. Hopefully I can record this some day! https://soundcloud.com/paul-levasseur-2/meadows-of-silence-performance (Check it out on soundcloud now. Same performance / recording) Maybe you can tell me what this music reminds me of or if you think it would fit in a videogame somewhere. I'm curious what you think.
  18. Hey everyone. I recently finished my remix of the casino music from one of the Skullgirls maps. I'd submit it officially but often times I'm told I don't vary my second drops enough for the site, and this time I really struggled with that since the original itself loops round and I was struggling to fit something else in. I looked at chords a bit but it just didn't feel right. Anyways I hope you enjoy, let me know what you think. Thanks, Tom
  19. This was a tune for Meat n Potatoes compo round 37. Source: https://youtu.be/lCNMufnJCuk Rearrangement: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zb25g7c2xb715vd/eino_keskitalo-hajonta-20150710-fc1.mp3?dl=0 Approach: Drum break samples, liveish guitar+bass, a sample of the original piece, 1 synth preset & arbitrary time signature trickery. I like the garage-y feel of the result. Looking to sub this to OCR, so comments to help with that appreciated. I'd like this to be a low-effort endeavor, so I'd rather not redo much if it can pass as it is.
  20. Hello everyone, this is a remix I started a few years ago, kind of forgot about it until recently, so I decided to keep working on it. It is an oriental ReMix of the "choose your character" theme from mario bros 2. Any feedback is appreciated! Source : WIP 1 --Edit-- - Added better and smoother transitions - Removed a few pitch bends and mordents - Hard panned a few parts - More varied Drums WIP 2 --Edit-- tagged as Mod-Review --Edit-- Got a lot of feedback so gonna revert to WIP and keep working on it --Edit-- CURRENT VERSION back to Mod Review, here are a list of things I did: - More varied and dynamic bass line - Relaxed the timing and velocities of plucked instruments, more strumming - Added small variations to melody - More cohesive reverb - EQed piano and brought volume up so it sticks out more - Added Pizzicato to one part - More humanized flute and erhu through volume automation - Brought bass up a couple dbs. - More realistic pitch bends done with pitch automation instead of samples I always feel like my arrangements come out quieter than other people's. Probably because I don't compress as much as I should..
  21. Hi Everyone, I'm FINALLY finished studying composition in university right now. I'd like to quickly share a couple of few film scores I did as part of the composition program there. The course is called 'composing for film' and we partner with animators at Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario. The first one is called Scrap Metal and it is set in post apocalyptic New York. http://vimeo.com/23246965 The second is called Night Light and you may have seen it already. http://vimeo.com/41219207 Ragen https://vimeo.com/63661616 Ballin' http://vimeo.com/64788018 I am also working on a research project as part of my degree requirements. I am specifically soliciting for gamers to send me their original compositions for academic purposes only. I posted a recruitment thread in the appropriate forum but I do not know that I articulated myself clearly. Anyway, have a look and see if you are interested. The more the merrier!!! If interested, read that thread for specific instructions on how to proceed. http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=42600
  22. Remix: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/zd91uqw4abrty6s/Footprints%20on%20Zebes.mp3?dl=0 (Old: https://soundcloud.com/slimy-4/footprints-on-zebes-update https://soundcloud.com/slimy-4/footprints-on-zebes) Source: Since "Adventure Through Lavender Town" went on for over 7 minutes, I decided to make this one 7 minutes exactly. 6:33 now At 1:22, I tried to capture the mood of the original, which I love and don't think is done by many remixes. (including the Metroid Zero Mission one, which bombards you with loud, unsubtle chords) I also used the item room theme in this remix, and bits of the opening theme from Super Metroid. Feedback would be appreciated!
  23. Game: Chrono Trigger Original Track: Corridors of Time Link to Remix: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/628213 A couple of days ago i was messing with my guitar, and found an interesting chord progression that i liked. I then randomly noticed that with some adjustments i could make Corridors of Time work in that chord progression, so i made this arrangement. What do you think?
  24. Hey all, my most recent cover. Doom 64 is next. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VntCh7i5fvA
  25. I have never played Skyward Sword in my life, but i think Fi's Theme is the most beautiful piece ever made for this saga. So i felt like making a remix of it: Source: Fi's Farewell - Game: The Legend of Zelda - Skyward Sword Link to Remix: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/93823550/%5BFinished%5D%20Goodbye%20Fi.mp3 For the first time in my life i tried to be not conservative with a remix (Well, the first half is still conservative), but the the second half is basically my own take on the motif. I hope you enjoy it.
