  1. Me and musician buddy Souperion recently started a pet project of creating a collection of original songs inspired by games we played on the SNES. As we've had a lot of fun doing it, I've been considering publishing the completed work, maybe on bandcamp or my youtube channel. Not with any hope of really making money (as I don't expect that to happen), but as a personal accomplishment for both of us. My interest is in a low-key thing. I'm aware that publishing commercially is a large, multifactored process and I'm only considering a small-scale option. And I have discussed this with Souperion and he's onboard if its something we can do. But before I try anything and put any of this stuff on the internet, I wanted to see if I could get any advice on posting original music like this. Anyone have any experience/suggestions/guidelines for doing stuff like this? I'm not committing to anything yet, wanted to learn something before deciding on a course of action.
  2. Hello! This song is from Joe Zieja's "Quest for Glory III: Wages of War - Part 1" around 1hr 10min in during his half time show. I believe Joe usually has an OC ReMix playing, but I have no idea where to start in searching for this song. Any help is appreciated!
  3. I'm new to this site and I wanted to download full albums. But I've never used BitTorrent and even after watching some tutorials nothing works. The file I get when I try to download a torrent from this site is a .torrent file which isn't recognized by BitTorrent. I tried another file from a different site and that one worked. Am I missing a step here or am I doing something wrong?
  4. Hello Everybody! So I finally was able to upgrade to a more decent laptop and I'm moving from garageband to Logic Pro X (choose logic because of similarities with garageband) My question here is, where to start regarding music samples and libraries??? Logic pro has some sounds that come with it, but they don't sound awesome except for the drum sets (in my opinion) I did some research on google and on the forum, and I'm overwhelmed with all the results and sounds, samples and stuff available, from free to expensive ones, I don't know what to do. Of course I'm looking for the free stuff because I don't have the money to spend and because I'm just starting to seriously try to produce my music. I would like to ask for help, if someone could point me to the best free sounds or samples available. What do YOU use? My music doesn't have a genre in specific, I have influences from classical, latin, electronic, rock, pop, and more, so I'm looking for sounds from all "popular" instruments like brass, woodwinds, strings, bass, guitars, and of course synth and electronic sounds too. If there's a thread or discussion with this information that I didn't see, please point me to it. All help is appreciated, thank you for your time and I hope to share my remixes soon. (also need to learn some equalization and masterization, so info on those topics is welcome too)
  5. Hello! I'm new to the forum, and I'm here now because I need help. Beginning June last year, I've been making music (video game remixes, but I bet you figured). I'm having a blast, and I've greatly improved since I started! But I've encountered a problem: I, for the life of me, cannot find brass sounds (in neither a symphonic or more jazz-oriented style) that sound at least okay, and do not cost money. In order to get better help, I'll explain my situation further. I'm 16 years old, and I'm in high school and college at the same time. Because of this, I don't have very much free time for music itself, let alone a job. I've gone to what I would consider great lengths to expand my collection of live instrument sounds--I've searched far and wide for soundfonts and VSTs, and I have the free Native Instruments products (I'm using FL Studio 12 in case the DAW matters). While I've managed to come across some nice strings, woodwinds, and percussion, brass (which happens to be my favorite section) has been seemingly impossible to find on a budget like mine. I've found that some of the reasons there aren't many good Brass VSTs are along the lines of the instrtuments being difficult to record in such a fashion and the nature of the sound is hard to synthsize. But there has to be something I can do. That's why I'm here: what are some of the best brass libraries that can be used for free or very close to it? Something that can hold me off until I can afford something better? Thanks for the help!
  6. This is gonna be a bit of a longshot, but I've been on the site since 2001 if I'm not mistaken. I haven't been on here in nearly ten years, but I've had a song from here stuck in my head and I can't find it ANYWHERE on the site or on my computer. I know that it came from here though, so I'll just post my "beatboxing" of what I remember, and hopefully someone out there knows what I'm going on about. So here it is, please help me if you happen to know what it is. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7z61fusyecz9xes/Random song I remembered.mp3?dl=0
  7. Here is the tune: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0HBVVMkO8NM It's the Classic Super Mario Theme remixed. I just can't find the full version nor the name of who remixed it. Any help?
  8. So I just tried using samples in my music for the first time, only to find out I have zero clue how to use them. Whatever I make is garbage, I cant get a simple instrument out of the songs provided for the life of me. I want to take a muted trumpet sound from an old 1920's song I got with a sample pack, but it just isn't working. My second issue is that I cant figure out for the life of me how Reaper even works. Ive been using LMMS this whole time, and in Reaper I cant seem to find anywhere any means to even use a sf2 file. I need help with all of this, I expected to have a fun time learning today but now I just feel stressed and depressed.
  9. When I was 16, I first discovered fruity loops, and I was completely enamored by the music writing process. Sure I didn't know anything about theory or what made a good song, but I threw myself into it full force, writing as many bad songs as I pleased. And now I'm 22, and I'm writing less and less full songs. I'll find myself wanting to write something and having no ideas, or having an idea but no way to continue it. I've been going to college for music now for a few years, and I don't know anything else I'd want to do with my life. I want to re-ignite my drive for music, I started playing guitar but I don't know if that'll help. Anyone else ever been in that spot before?
  10. Okay, so after I managed to find a way to play the lead melody of 'The Past' from 'Metal Gear: Ghost Babel' by ear, I started working on a remix. Unfortunately, the said melody is the only part of the song I was able to retranscribe and I'd like to add more elements of the original source to the mix. Since I couldn't find a MIDI anywhere, I was wondering if anyone here (with good ears) could help me sequence one I could use as reference for the mix. Source: Thankfully, it's neither a long piece nor a complicated track, so it shouldn't take too long... I guess ^^' Thanks in advance!
  11. Hello. So, life is interesting these days. I am making leaps and strides in my social life and mental health, but now my finances are pretty much falling apart. I'm both optimistic and stressed. I'm at the point where I need help. I hate asking for financial help, as it makes me feel a little less like a fully grown adult. But part of being an adult is learning when to suck up my pride and do what needs to be done. Here's what I've done. Feels really weird, but I created a GoFundMe campaign to help me out of this jam. If you can help, that's so appreciated. If not, then no worries and thank you for reading this. Perhaps you could share the link instead? Speaking of the link, here it is: https://www.gofundme.com/f6jd7pbg Thank you. (Under no circumstances should you feel any obligation to donate. Please don't put yourself into a financial bind in order to help me out of mine. I'd certainly appreciate your gift, but I'd feel a bit guilty.)
  12. I've been writing music since I was 16, to...middling results, I've never really made anything outstanding but I've always enjoyed doing it. Lately however I have no ideas what to write, and even worse I feel hardly inclined to even write anything. How do I fix this? I want to write again.
  13. Yes, I'm back again. So far, I'm batting 500 with this kind of thing over the last year. The first hunt was successful ("Jessica" by the Allman Brothers as Rexy said), and the second fell flat (no matches anywhere). I'm hoping to get bumped up to a .666 average with this one. So yeah, here's my third one. It's been in my head for a few days, and it is incredibly familiar... so much so that I'm certain I should know it well. So, here's a link to the music file... https://www.dropbox.com/s/g3s9mr4j2n1xb5i/unknown_song_3.mp3?dl=0 I'm 99% certain it's not a game tune, and that it's a published and well known song that features this little melody in it. A part of me wants to link it to a piece of some rockish song, where the melody is used before a verse or something, but I'm not sure. Either way, it's driving me nuts. I've tried Midomi (it can record the music playing from my DAW, which I didn't know) and Musipedia, but they came up empty (Musipedia had lots classical matches, but none of them seemed right). Can anyone identify this bit of music? Pweeeeeaaaaase?
