Instrumental & Vocal Skills (Other)

  1. This is my recreation of the Save Room Theme (Rest) from Resident Evil 0. In this i made 3 different "scenarios" of the melody.
  2. My new album is out now on spotify and all platforms! Never Ending Journey is a mix of modern piano, orchestral arrangements, retrostyled synths and a little bit of world instruments & voices. A collection of tracks that I have composed over the last few years. I hope you enjoy the journey!
  3. So I've been away from the site for a while (see this post) and now I'm here to share a short piece I recently managed to finish to satisfaction. It is called Theme from a Dream and features the piano, cello, viola and two flutes for a brief but beautiful run through a theme that I came up with after waking up from a dream a long time ago. Many, many years ago I had this dream with a very moving, adventure game-esque quality to it. Think Zelda. When I woke up from it I was sad that the story was over. As I tried to re-play the dream and add to the story in my head I came up with this theme that has stuck with me ever since. I am thrilled to have finally put it to music after maybe two decades! A second part is still in the making. That'll be more epic, movie-soundtrack like in 6/8 time. Find the finished version here: https://metapop.com/blooming-late/tracks/theme-from-a-dream-part-i/269406 I've also used it as background music in this recent video, featuring my latest Fall/Autumn pictures. The video is dedicated to the memory of my late grandfather, who died last month after a long battle against cancer. Unfortunately I was not able to show him the pictures before his death... Enjoy the music and the pictures! --René
  4. Inspired by the many obstacles we have to face and have to overcome and in the end balance it out and learn and fly.
  5. This was on my todo list for a long time. Finally I made a cover/remix of one of the greatest videogame soundtracks of all time: Parasite Eve! It is the stunning main theme of the game, featuring my favorite parts of the short and orchestral theme. I added some deeper tones and dramatic voices. Hope you enjoy it!
  6. The classic Tomb Raider series and Lara Croft were a big part of my childhood and I still love to play the classics this day. I tried to make a different approach on the main theme of the first game solo on the piano :).
  7. Here is a piano arrangement of Underwater Ruins (composed by J. Nakano) and No Hopes, No Dreams (composed by N. Uematsu) Enjoy !
  8. This is my piano cover of the Hero Quest Ingame Music from the Amiga version. I made a cover of this 14 (!) years ago and it was very well received so I revisited it and recorded a new version. Hope you can feel the heroic fantasy mood with this. Thank you for listening!
  9. Here is my new music track "Alone". :)
  10. I always loved the Resident Evil soundtracks, especially the save room themes from the older games. This is one of many themes I composed for a hypothetical mystery adventure game and it turned out very inspired by Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
  11. My piano remix cover of the ecco: the tides of time title theme. I recorded the different voices all with the piano and combined them later, so it has a similar feeling to the original version. I only played the first few minutes of this game but I played through the first one and was very impressed by it’s dark and mysterious tone, even after so many years. But man, I guess it’s the hardest game ever made, even with cheats I barely got through it - but it was worth it!
  12. This is one of many themes I composed for a hypothetical mystery adventure game. (This song is also a loop, that's why the ending seems a little sudden.)
  13. This is my cover and tribute to one of my favorite games of all time, Resident Evil 2 (1998). Inspried by the Resident Evil Orchestra Album and with a few new things added.
  14. Here is my new composition called "Dream". It's very chill instrumental electronic music. I'm not sure where the inspiration comes, maybe some anime movie
  15. Hi, Here is a piano arrangement of "If you open your heart" from ff7. This is not a major theme of the game. But I find this music interesting to work on. About the inspiration, there are a lot of Asian harmonies. I was also influenced by some pieces of Debussy, an author that I like a lot. Any feedback is welcome!
  16. Hey folks, having some trouble mixing a piano duo. Especially when it comes to panning. Normally a piano is panned corresponding with where the higher and lower keys on the keyboard are, so you hear everything from the players perspective. But how to do it with two pianos? Leaving them both centered is weird, bc it basically feels like the 2 pianos are in the same spot. Simply Panning them a bit L and R is also weird bc then it is some kind of unnatural overlap and basically the same as leaving them centered. Should I put them in 2 Mono channels and pan the a bit L and R? Would that be a realistic thing to do, if we imagine the listener sitting in front of a stage with the 2 pianos on? Or are there any other solutions you can think of? Thanks for your help!
  17. For everyone feeling a little sad today: Sorry for poor video editing skills
  18. Hi, Here is a piano arrangement of Final Fantasy 8 - Spy. Style a little jazzy, with rhythm more marked than my usual works. And a lot a dissonances. NEW VERSION : Original here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txs-MnMiP2w I was in difficulty to keep the tempo. I've for this corrected some mistakes. I think it can't be heard, I hope so Any feedbacks is welcome !
  19. Hi there folks. Just finished my Touhou - U.N. Owen Was Her? arrangement. Hard to describe, so it's just better to see for yourself :D. The original:
  20. Hello! I just finished new arrangement for Dark Cloud - Main Theme. Guitar is in the main role, but piano and synth also plays key parts in this. The original: What are your thoughts? I have been struggling with drum programming a little bit recently. If anyone knows or has some helpful tutorials concerning that, I'm very interested to check those out!
  21. Hello I'd like to share a piece I first created in 2016 and just finished polishing up. I vaguely recall posting the first MIDI version but couldn't find the post, so I'm making a new one. This time I'm using recorded piano bits so you no longer have to suffer through MIDI hammering! Here's part of the description from the Sound Cloud page: I envisioned this piece to go with a short story involving a young woman and her soldier boyfriend. Part 1: A train arrives at a train station where the young lady is waiting. She's hoping to find her boyfriend on the train, seeing how rumor has it that he was wounded and is on his way to another station. Part 2-3: The crowd is making it difficult for the woman to find the man, but finally their eyes meet and a hasty conversation takes place. There is exchanging of gifts, but the man can hardly utter a word to his chatty girl. The train is only there for a brief moment before it starts moving again. She has to step aside to make room for new passengers, abruptly ending the conversation. As the train leaves off, she chases it down the platform as best she can, until it is out of reach and out of sight. Part 4: Saddened, she holds onto a letter that her boyfriend managed to give her before departure. Upon reading it she learns that he will soon return home to her. His time to serve is over. Then they can start planning their future together at last. https://soundcloud.com/user-227517766/04-arrivaldeparture-rene-mulder I recently invested in a new Strings library but for the life of me I cannot get it to NOT sound lame (yet). For this piece I resorted back to the initial free sample thing I used in 2016 which actually captures the mood I'm looking for perfectly. What do you think? Can you see the story unfolding as you're listening?
  22. Yo, check this out: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Q-uTroA69zAma3ERpEFG4BF9WyIaydi1/view?usp=sharing So, I tried to make something with synths and piano. Feedback is appreciated!
  23. Hey there, I made this some time ago, thought I might also share it. I basically took the well known Pallet Town Theme and made some Piano Variations in the Style of 18th century composer Joseph Haydn. Enjoy! Feedback is always appreciated. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1eSQgQKNg0pqf8r6OG0JXMxHPwR9x4N28
  24. Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but this is a bit of an "art" project to me. I've been making a VGM "Fake Book" (it's like a compilation of charts with rhythm notation, chord charts, and two monophonic voices harmonized in a typical jazz arrangement style), and I wanted to share the progress with OCR in case anyone could get some use out of it. I suppose, in some sense, this is my "visual art project" relating to game music. It is a labor of love, so it is incomplete but entries are always being added to it. I'm in the phase of adding the finalized products to the book (many pieces are already transcribed/reharmonized and just lacking final draft) and would love some feedback from the community. I'm not making the whole book available to the public, but I'd like to share some excerpts and see what you think! Table of contents: I've included a .pdf file of "Dark World" from A Link to the Past. You'll notice that my sheets are made into two main sections: "Head" Think of the top line as the main melody, second line as optional harmony/counterpoint. "Vamp" The top line is what most of the accompaniment is providing in the source recordings, but re-voiced/re-harmonized in some instances that I found necessary. I didn't just sit with these pieces and add "7"s to every chord to make it "jazz". The basslines are an attempt to make a 1-1 transference of some bass lines if I find them particularly iconic (it may not be up to me to judge), but may be simplified in some places for "ease of use". The notes are written with an "X" instead of a traditional note-head because I wanted these to indicate rhythm as well, not just pitch. There are chords notated above the top line of the "Vamp". I believe them all to be accurate and have taken some liberties (but nothing too out there) where I heard implied harmony. I was mostly looking out for improvisers and guitarists. The idea was to have the pieces as informative as possible, while also making a clean and comprehensive chart that is easy to sight read. You can take this info and rearrange it for so many mixed groups! I am looking for feedback in the following areas: Ease of Use Accuracy of Melody Harmonic Interpretation Legibility/Comprehension Anyone taking the time to review and critique would have my personal thanks and I'd be happy to provide them more sheets for their time (if interested). Thank you! VGM Fake Book - Dark World.pdf
