  1. I just finished this middle-eastern progressive dubstep ReMix of Dungeonmans' " Enmired Herpetology" by @zircon ! Hope you enjoy (Note: Soundcloud does make the treble have some aliasing issues so don't worry about that.) Here's the original: A writeup about it below: --- Hiya! It's been a while since you guys have had a Dungeonmans ReMix, eh? This time I arranged "Enmired Herpetology" in a progressive middle-eastern dubstep style, featuring the Turkish Oud (Impact Soundworks), Santoor (East West Quantum Leap Ra), and Sitar (my Zebra2 preset collection). This takes inspiration from Mervin Matthew's "PetiStep" Bollywood Harmonium demo, and has some scattered influence from zircon's stuff (the sine wave bells in particular). I had so much fun writing this; it only took about 10 hours to compose, and then another 12 hours to polish the details, overall spanning 3 weeks, and I think that that tells you how this is one of my more "patient" pieces---it takes its sweet time to evolve, but doesn't necessarily try to be too flashy. Even at the climaxes, there isn't a ton of stuff going on at once, just big harmonies. Nonetheless, there some cool things to mention here: - The distorted lead sound (such as at 1:02 - 1:12) is actually one of my electro house basses that I pitched up a few octaves. - I tried some new, FREE effects plugins from kiloHearts Essentials, using their Transient Shaper, Filter, and/or Ring Modulator on the drums! - There is a LOT of sine wave bell action going on, which was the backbone for the entire ReMix. It outlined the chord progressions for me and became an apt way to end things as well! I really liked it because since it's only a single harmonic, it's almost always audible no matter the context. It's been over 5 years since the release of Dungeonmans, but it seems to be going strong, and I hope that that continues to be the case! ...By the way, see if you can spot where I put the key change.   2. https://youtu.be/q3skfM-cH9Y A game I almost forgot until a couple of years was Little Nemo Dream Master. The first stage, Mushroom Forest, had such an unforgetable theme and it brings back both feelings and memories I also think it has this melancholic amtosphere which I believe comes from the harmony in the chords that's used. Another thing I loved with this stage was the big mushrooms and enemies lurking around in that dark forest. It really fits into what is supposed to mimic the dreams of Nemo. Of course I remember one more thing, this game was dead hard. I didn't manage to get through many stages, but I really wish I had because I heard the ending is great. Did you guys beat this game? As you can hear I made some difference in the chord progression in the first section, starting with minor chords instead of major. It gave a bit of a new atmosphere with just a little distance to the original. The bass line is very influenced by one of my favourite synthwave artists/producers - Mitch Murder. Listen to the song Assembly Line and you hear nothing but perfection in sense of production, mixing and quality. The perfect reference music if you're looking for a clean sound. I hope that I could come close to that some day! I was fooling around with a distorted lead sound during the creation of this remix, and at the same time was a bit inspired by metal (which I listened to a lot in the past). This resulted in the section starting at 1:11 (right after a heavy metal inspired solo) with double bass drums following what sounds like down tuned distorted guitars/basses in a not so common but hot rhythm. The forest ambience sound is found on freesound.org and contributes to the total atmosphere of forestness. I hope you enjoy this one!   3. 2018 UPDATE: It is still in Musescore 2, but I'm taking a decisive turn towards an orchestral version instead of EDM. I hope to be able to finish it one of these days because this is taking me forever. Most of the mix is done. Previous UPDATE: FL Studio Version Hello, I'm a new user here and I would like to share a remix that I am working on with you guys and ask some basic feedback about the project in its current stage of development. Before jumping in, please consider the follow comments, to get an idea of where I am coming from and what I'm trying to accomplish. I am looking for feedback on some specific points. Tracks Used So I tried to combine a number of BGM's from the classic Gameboy game 'Volley Fire'. During development I noticed some easy to make connections with snippets from Starfox's Corneria theme, so I put those in as well. That gets us the following list: Stage Select (VF) Stage A (VF) Stage B (VF) Corneria (SF) I wanted to at least give the old source tunes a sound update and create a progressively expanding scene, adding more instruments, driven by a nice beat. I initially started playing around on the piano, going on my memory of the original tracks, but soon found out my memory was slightly off. But this created some nice variation that makes it a more true remix. What I'd Like Feedback On You should know that I have only started making music since november 2014. I have made a number of private compositions since, and this would be my second "completed" video game remix. I do not have professional music making software, but rather am using MuseScore2, which is a notation program. For that reason, I am not looking for feedback on the quality of sounds and instrument samples. I know these are lacking. Mastering is not too much of a concern at this point either, because the program isn't made to do that. Until I can invest in something like Fruity Loops, I want to limit the scope to other areas: Does the overall composition work? Do you think the transitions between sections are alright, or are they too sudden or weird? What would be a good way to transition them nicely so that it feels like a whole? Is the total length alright? Does the track have enough variety, keeping it interesting enough to listen to from beginning to end? What do you think of my use of the source material? Is it 'remixy' enough? I realize that sound quality and mastering might effect how you answers some of these questions, but hopefully this will be useful enough anyway.   5. Ahh, Secret of Mana, the game that made me want to become a musician at the tender age of seven... it was my introduction to prog-rock. This one's not done, but is far enough along that I felt comfortable sharing. I was going for some mildly-psychedelic jazz-rock, to set the mood for chasing rabites after dark (and maybe a few cocktails). I haven't made an intro or outro, and the middle part is kind of lacking at the moment. Also, the mix was done on some low-end headphones while my nicer ones sit atop the ever-growing fix-it pile. I'm sure my complete lack of jazz background is apparent with that horn arrangement, but I'm learning as I go. I need a break from this one for a couple days, but I hope to finish it up and mix it by this time next week. In the meantime, please enjoy, and don't hesitate to leave some constructive criticism (or just be brutal if that's your thing, it's all appreciated). Thanks! Follow the white rabite

  7. This is a little ambitious project I've been working on lately for Halloween. The song is supposed to portray a man waking up in a mysterious forest after a night of binge drinking out of depression. As the man wanders through this forest looking for a way out, he has inner battles with himself about who he his as a person. At night this causes him to hallucinate his fears. It actually gets pretty crazy and ends with him running into a small alien scout group. The man eventually escapes them at the end. From this moment the main realizes what he needed in life: Inspiration. Enjoy and don't be afraid to leave feedback. Happy October!

It's somewhere in the middle of Dream Theater, Opeth, more extreme metal like Gorguts, Martyr, and a serious dose of VG influences. Live violin and viola (and cello) on the album are courtesy of Jeff Ball, another OCRemixer you might've heard of!
