  1. I have for the longest time wanted to make digital music and remixes. I have an Alesis QX49 keyboard, FL studio 11, a Launchpad and a Rode microphone, but I've never really produced anything with these tools. I get tons of ideas for remixes in my head all the time, yet I can't get them out so to speak. So that's why I'm here today. I'm going to post my remixes, but its going to be in a crude format......... me singing them....... yep! I don't mind if anyone thinks its silly nor do I care about embarrassment. All I care about is getting these songs out of my system. So here they are via drop box and its just me singing them into the micro phone. The first one is a remix of the Sonic 2 menu music. Original song here Since this song is only 6 seconds I decided to extend it. My version is here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/4757wx1335fttuz/sonic%202%20v4.wma?dl=0 The menu select song my version is supposed to be bold and punchy and have attitude. The next remix is from the Hill Top Zone Original song here My version is here. Near the end I kind of got a little goofy with it, but hopefully you get the idea. https://www.dropbox.com/s/n2q2iedttbyxc0d/hill%20zone.wma?dl=0 It's designed to be a very smooth relaxing calming remix. It's much different from the original, but that's what remixes are all about. But here is the problem, I don't yet have the skills to actually make real remixes out of these songs. So if anyone wants to collaborate and get them made that would be great because otherwise they aren't going to get made anytime soon. I also have more Sonic 2 levels remixes if anyone else wants to here me singing them. LOL Let me know what you think
  2. This would be my first remix I've posted here (not my first remix ever, but the first I've posted on OCR's forums). I tend to focus more on original material, personally, but due to writers' block I'm thinking of doing a videogame remix album or EP. Basically, this is a smooth jazz-borderline-new wave remix of Palmtree Panic from the US version of Sonic CD (the JP soundtrack is still my favourite). I replayed/reprogrammed the original drum loop, and updated the arrangement of the song... It's pretty much finished. I have some mixing things I have to work out still (due to my own personal perfectionism). Enjoy https://soundcloud.com/vanityangelfixx/palmtree-panic-14 EDIT: Since I'm not planning to mix the song any further at the current moment, trying the mod review... I'm pretty sure it's a familiar tune to a lot of people here, but here is the source:
  3. https://soundcloud.com/katherine-allen-12/slam-shuffle It's still a big WIP, but I've been seeing what I can pull off with the Ample Guitar M samples. I have to say I'm very happy with the quality, though I'm still learning the ins and outs.
  4. Long weekends for me typically mean a lot of boredom and sometimes with that boredom I decide to muck around with music. Though long weekends also typically have the side effect of me not feeling all that . . ., awesome. So, I decided to relive my youth a little bit and try to capture some of that . . ., awesome by remixing a track that always made me feel like a total badass. is the original track. Short and full of that . . ., awesome.A Stroll to a Run (WIP) download & listen link. I'm still working out a lot of things and I know the mix is kind of terrible but that is how it goes sometimes. It will most definitely be cleaned up when the composition is finished. The idea is just to get well the ideas down. Edit - All righty then folks got the composition finished. follow the link to listen & download. Edit no. 2 - Well I think this is going to be pretty close to the final version of the mix. However, it has yet to be mastered. Need to get on that I do, but also I need to sit on the mix for a day or two to really get a feel for whether I like it. Follow the link to listen & download. Edit no. 3 - Well okay folks this last link is to the final form of this track. Fully mastered and sounding as tight as it will ever. Link to listen & download.
  5. So, I wanted to test my new recording thingy, and arranged a little lost woods waltzy thing. It's pretty simple, but it makes me happy when I listen to it. Any feedback, good or bad, is very appreciated as I might want to improve it into something less simple and more awesome, and feedback tends to help people onto the right track. https://soundcloud.com/jorik-bergman/lost-woods
  6. I'm just hoping for some general feedback on the mixing. I transcribed Hal Canon's brilliant original theme and recorded several takes (I wrote more detail about it here if you're interested) using some orchestral software. My ears are quite burnt out on this as I've been working on it with every possible spare second over the past few weeks. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Here is my version Cheers! p.s. I also utilized part of the theme from stage 4 and had SO MUCH FUN orchestrating this.
  7. I created this as a bonus track for the Meat 'n Potatoes #21 compo, but since it turned out pretty good I thought I'd ask here for feedback and maybe increase the judges' queue a bit more It's a remix of the stage 1 song from the MSX shooter Aleste 2, made by Compile in 1989. It started out as an experiment with Realivox Blue, the instrument that does the vocals. I was playing around with it, it sounded quite nice and the rest of the song more or less took off all by itself. After the main part of the song was done, I added the intro and the break, giving it a bit of an ethereal, otherworldly touch. Not sure about the style, I'd like to dub it "Ethereal Italo". Original track: Remix: https://soundcloud.com/jorito/aleste-flying-high Due to limitations of the voice synth (and my lack of skill in writing) the lyrics aren't that great. If somebody wants to volunteer and sing (and rewrite) the lyrics, you are most welcome! The lyrics:
  8. -original upload- http://picosong.com/c76x -update 1- http://picosong.com/9nkZ I have another song I've been working on alongside the others I've been throwing out. This one is one I've wanted to play for years, just never had a mic. A Link Between Worlds used a lot of the same instruments that I've always wanted to use with this song, especially my doumbek, so I guess I'll try to keep it from sounding too similar in the long-run, but for now I'm just getting an idea of instrumentation, and just how to record these instruments in general, then I'll play around with melody variation and solos. In this piece I'm playing guitar, ukulele, the C major bamboo flute I made, ocarina, copper doumbek (with a brand new head, so its still a little rough sounding), and cajon. I also have some other percussion instruments I'm going to use here and there. There are a few places I'm going to through in Hilda's Theme from A Link Between Worlds, probably plucked on ukulele, and a few other themes, most likely including Song of Storms included. ANY feedback is more than welcome as I hardly know what I'm doing, and advice from someone who does would make the whole process a LOT easier on me! Thanks for listening!
  9. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S48yGfAksC8 Remix: https://soundcloud.com/mikededub/links-awakening-house-piano-rough-draft I could have easily been clever (aka not clever at all) and made a House-style remix of "House", but that's not how I wanted to treat this track. I was particularly inspired by the Final Fantasy VI Piano album and wanted to give the piano treatment to this tune I remember fondly from my childhood. Since the source tune is so short, I added a "B" section that hopefully didn't stray too far from the original music. I used Cinesamples Piano in Blue because I feel it best captures that intimate sound I was going for. I'd like to know if there is anything that sticks out to you. In particular: Does the sequencing sound human enough? Does the harmonic movement flow well? Is it too quiet in places? Any help is greatly appreciated.
  10. Original - Remix - https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1 Im really not sure whats going on. I just mixed this about 5 days ago, but I'm feeling like I hit a hard wall fast. I may edit this later with all the details about the inspirations, textures and ideas...but right now I'm just trying to see if it'll play in Peoria.
  11. https://soundcloud.com/katherine-allen-12/he-sang-of-feeling One I'd been working on and touching up for a bit. It's not too long yet(something I'd ammend before submitting it(If I even decide to) - it could certainly be expanded a bit). Right now I'm more or less interested in how it's sounding so far.
  12. Hi all, I'm working on a remix for a while now and I'm trying to figure out the balance between the heavier dance segments and the more melodic, conservative sections of the song. As far as the structure goes, it seems like the more things I add, the more the dance sections get lost in the rest of the piece. I'm considering adding a second part of each heavier section. Thoughts? https://soundcloud.com/kruai/wrapped-in-black-remix/s-eCuyO Oh, and of course I don't know how I want it to end yet. But I've done some heavy EQing before I finish the structure of the piece because why not (Source link: http://youtu.be/qeW0NnkoAU8)
  13. I'd like to share a couple tracks from an EP/album I've been working on called Careless Stories. It's nothing amazing or outlandish - just a collection of original guitar pieces(plus a cover or two). So take a look and enjoy, I suppose. I wouldn't call any of this finished yet - I'll likely refine and expand each piece eventually. https://soundcloud.com/katherine-allen-12/sets/careless-stories
  14. I know Gerudo Valley is a popular theme, but I guess there is a reason for that haha. I assume I don't need to link the original to this page right? The idea here was to mimic/reference the version of "Dont Let Me Be Misunderstood" somewhat that plays in Kill Bill. There will be a lot more percussion obviously, especially in the intro, but being a percussionist I realized I should probably work on everything else first, so there is mostly just bass quarter notes from my cajon for now. The intro is actually going to have the intro melody to the original LoZ theme on one of my homemade bamboo flutes I made, and I want the end to jump into the rest of that theme, which you can hear the chords for at the very end I plan on having more guitar melody, but I'm not exactly a guitarist, so its taking a while to be able to play melody at all. I don't even know my scales yet! http://picosong.com/cUbk/
  15. Hi everyone, I've been making this remake of the Dr. Wily Stage 1 theme from Mega Man 2 (yes, yet another Dr. Wily Stage remix) for quite a while, and it's near finished now. I'm not sure about the strings which are used as a bass line (in the 70 percent of the song), it still sounds monotone. Streamed on Soundcloud - Uncompressed download
  16. Hey! I'm new here. I heard this was a good place to get into the video game music industry. If anyone could look through some of my songs and give me some constructive criticism, I would really appreciate it! Please be nice! http://youtu.be/A7QdYa33Fz4?list=UU-8nYOfSFiBxtzzHEJ-hbIQ If you would like to share any of your connections, too, that would be amazing! Thanks! Brigid
  17. So, I just took my first ever stab at a video game remix: http://radiant-cadenza.tumblr.com/post/95145943917/so-as-a-little-warm-up-i-decided-to-try-my-hand It's an arrangement of the Stone Tower Temple BGM from Legend Of Zelda, Majora's Mask: http://ocremix.org/song/13297 I was going for a post-apocalyptic steampunk kind of vibe. I got a little stuck on it, so I thought I might post what I have so far and see if anyone has any suggestions while I work on some other things.

  19. So, I have wanted to do a remix of some of Outrun's music for some time and found some inspiration in Passing Breeze. The mix is still very rough around the edges, but the main composition is there. http://www.mediafire.com/listen/74cu8m8t73r0phj/Oceanic_Breeze_-_APZX_(WIP)_2.mp3 Edit - Bit of an update. Seeing as I was very bored today I did some mixing to the track. Much easier on the ears compared to original. http://www.mediafire.com/listen/kv6s9bn9ww3gmep/Oceanic_Breeze_-_APZX_(WIP)_3.mp3
  20. Well, I liked the guitar idea but it doesn't seem I'm picking up the guitar in a while, so I started with the EQ (and stereo!) fixes, plus a couple of other tweaks.. I think this is better: Final Candidate 3 ---- Newer: Final Candidate 2 Tiny update, such as doubling one lead with the organ. Mod review time! ---- New: Final Candidate 1 ----- Here's a kind of a shoegazing/post-rock take on from Cave Story (with references to at 2:11-2:26 & at 2:26-2:42). This debuted on the People's Remix Compo round 250 and I've since worked on the leads, bringing them up in the mix & layering them with some Commodore 64 sounds.
  21. Hi First time making a thread here, so excuse me if I have done something horribly wrong in the process. Anyway, I have been working on a remix of all the Classic Sonic boss tracks rammed into about 4 minutes, and by accident at first, they came out overly dramatic. Its closer to finished than not but there's probably room for improvement. Link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/78325270/Epic%20Bosses.mp3 Any feedback on how I can improve or fix things would be much appreciated!
  22. A folk theme. Wondering if there is too much low end... too muddy? https://soundcloud.com/ryanreilly/wellputfinalmastering
  23. Hi, I'm new and I'm new at making music. I have made some strange tunes this past month when I decided to start making music... Here are a two I feel has the most potential. I'm also a pixel artist that's why people recommended me a game related forum I'm looking for critique and tips. If I should start over with my songs just outright tell me I won't feel bad about it So yeah here you go: https://soundcloud.com/alexsander-olsen/work-in-progress-called-i-spent-150-on-booze-and-this-is-my-song https://soundcloud.com/alexsander-olsen/work-in-progress-called-lol-yeah-first-upload Thanks in advance!
