  1. This isn't the first remix from a game I've completed, however it is one I am more confident with: https://www.bandlab.com/vodouqueenxiii/groove-of-the-ancients-jazz-funk-dance-mix I decided I might as well throw myself into the deep-end (hope I'm doing it right), but yeah. Any advice, pointers, or criticisms (good or bad) would be great. Hoping to get something into submission at some point... I realize Cakewalk / BandLab is not on the usual list of DAWs to work with, by the way, but it's all I have to work with at the moment. I am extremely new to composing, arranging, mixing and mastering music on my own, (with nothing but me learning from YouTube vids, what bit of information I still have on music theory from years ago in band, and other tidbits on the internet). I'm practically a tadpole in a pond. Don't want anyone to go easy on me despite all this, please. Look forward to the comments. o/ Cheers!
  2. I want to start out by saying how much I LOVE this site and HUGELY appreciate all the super awesome, talented remixxers who have given me my best driving tunes for years. There's nothing cooler than hearing hot new takes on game tracks that mean a lot to me. So, that said: Hi! I'm Rowena, from Cape Town, South Africa. My tiptop gaming franchise is LoZ, and I found this place after seeing some of the Link To The Past special album in a YouTube Let'splayer's video on Lynel fighting. I have a newb-o-rama question: if there's a game track that there's no remixes of -- specifically in this case, the Gerudo Desert theme from Twilight Princess (and I'm not sure *how* there's no remixes, but I guess it always gets overshadowed by the Gerudo Valley theme) -- apart from simply requesting it on the suggestions forum and waiting in hope... is it possible to set up kind of a call for commission or contest? I'm an illustrator, so I could offer game character art as a prize (http://faerthingpen.tumblr.com), if that appeals to anyone? Thanks again!!
  3. HI all I'm a long time OC Remix fan and I've decided to take the plunge and try some creating. I had an electric piano about 30 years ago that was MIDI compatible but never used MIDI. I think MIDI was new then. I've been reading Remixer profiles and the forums learning the lingo, etc. This led me to FL Studio. So let me ask, overall what percentage of the music here is 100% sampled? I don't know if sampled is the word. The other way to ask this is what percentage of music here uses outside instruments? And, of those, what part is digital (Keyboard) vs. say, electric guitar. We play violin, Casio keyboard, and electric Jazz guitar in my house. I'm laying the groundwork for investing and potentially mixing these instruments. When I listen to the music here I really can't tell which is digital vs non unless I'm listening to Audix (guitar) or music with voice. Any input would help, Thanks-
  4. So I just tried using samples in my music for the first time, only to find out I have zero clue how to use them. Whatever I make is garbage, I cant get a simple instrument out of the songs provided for the life of me. I want to take a muted trumpet sound from an old 1920's song I got with a sample pack, but it just isn't working. My second issue is that I cant figure out for the life of me how Reaper even works. Ive been using LMMS this whole time, and in Reaper I cant seem to find anywhere any means to even use a sf2 file. I need help with all of this, I expected to have a fun time learning today but now I just feel stressed and depressed.
  5. Hello! So I'm very new to the production scene, this is actually the third full track that I've ever created, so I'm still learning the ropes. That said, I'm looking for a lot of honest feedback on how to improve. I am getting a better feel for the tools available to me, and I've paid for very little beyond the basic ones offered in FL Studio. I have some honest self-feedback notes here that I'll post after a few others have evaluated it. Thanks.
  6. Hey guys, lil bit of background before I post the track. Background in a lil bit of music, my mom was a piano teacher, so got started on that at an early age. Tought myself guitar. Still kinda suck at that. Bought FL Studio about a year ago, dabbled in it, picked up a old Yamaha keyboard with MIDI out to try to make some tunes, as well as a Blue Yeti for the aforementioned terrible guitar playing. Finally decided earlier this week that I would suck it up and make use of the $200 I threw at FL Studio, and make something I would be proud of showing off, and possibly sell if people thought it would be worth it. That being said, I've been stalking OCR for years now, just never posted anything. Sixto was the entire reason why I wanted to learn guitar (The Passing of the Blue Crown was and still is one of the most-played tracks on my iTunes. :L), and Zircon was the reason I bought FL12 in the first place. Got a ton of respect for you guys, and the community here in general. So, for that reason, I'm asking anybody who's willing to take a listen to a track I'm re-starting work on that I originally slapped together in about a week 5 months ago. Loaded up the file earlier this week and made it a point to start trying to get it perfected, as this was one of the only tracks out of the 300-some I've made since the FL purchase that I've felt had some decent mixing/sound/balancing to it. Streamed/downloaded from Soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/isaac-doud/infectious Please blow the crap out of it. Anything that can help the mix, I'd greatly appreciate. Anything that stands out with progression, flow, overall mixing (I don't have a pair of studio headphones, using my HyperX Clouds for it, not the best, not the worst), please, if you could take a second of your time to let me know or explain the reasons behind it, I would greatly appreciate it. I know the vocals are sketchy. Probably going to remove them. Using all free stuff that came with FL Studio / can be aquired on teh interwebs so the strings are a bit off (YAY FREE VSTS, QUALITY FTW), working on those right now. Anywho - thanks in advance. Cheers!
