An mp3 with all the instruments can be found here, titled "AGES ~ Level 3, Moonlit Grotto (Shadow Hag)". However it downloads very slowly and is VERY LOUD for some reason, so turn your volume down to listen to it!

I already sent Rama an MP3 ripped from the .gbs. He'll update the first post at some point.

Also, what makes a challenge "challenging" (blue)? Is it just that there was no midi given?

Songs that have been requested that are generally less remixable by nature for one reason or another.

Depending on how this goes, would you consider doing this again in the summer?

Traditionally it's an annual thing, and I think I'd kind of like to keep it that way. Sort of like a ReMixer Olympics of sorts. We could do a another one more toward the middle of the year, but if we did it would be likely water down, and on a smaller scale, as not to steal too much spotlight from the main event.

Edit: However, a lot of people have said they wished it WERE in the summer. So if we do a summer thing this year, and it has a good turnout as well, then perhaps next year I'll just wait until Summer to do the next one.

Shrine of the Starry Night, Dragon Quest Monsters.

Oh cool larry found the GBS http://snesmusic.org/hoot/kingshriek/DragonQuestMonsters.7z

Seems to be track 14, though it also seems to be missing notes! (I think some of the notes fade quiet, and then another is supposed to strike; I'd have to find the game and play it to check though). :( Actually sometimes you can even hear it quiet! Might be that Meridian Advance can't understand wtf to do with stereo... (gameboy had stereo headphone output!)

Game: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project [NES, Konami 1991]

Song: 'Theme of Half Shell'

Composers: Yuichi Sakakura, Tomoya Tomita, Kouzou Nakamura

Links:

NSF; track 11

MP3

YouTube; starts at 5:25

As much as I searched, I couldn't find a single midi version of this track. Instead, here's a MIDI conversion of the NSF track. Apart from some of the nasty pitch bends, it's a half decent conversion. It's useless for anyone to directly 'rip' from, though; the tempo is set at 30.

The Legendary Beast from Final Fantasy VIII when you are fighting Griever in the final four battles at the end of disc 4. I've yet to hear a remix out of this song and there is so much potential for bombastic evil-ness from this song. I'd love to hear a wretched remix (in a good way) come out of this song!

Here are some source tunes. (not officially, but what I could find from vgmusic.com that are fairly close)

First one is a tad better. Again, I'd love to finally see a remix of this one, no one on earth (that I've seen) has tried this one yet.

I would have suggested Lockjaw's Locker from DKC2 as my second choice since no one has done that ever. However, I'm sticking to my guns with my above choice and I'd want Legendary Beast to be inserted into the running for the freshly baked challenge!
