The most important part of this effect AFAIK is the 'robotic' non-smooth transition between the notes which you can achieve by quantizing them to a specific pitch. A lot of money. But he's trying to get a deliberate aliasing sound -- I'd think a cheap pitch corrector would be just fine for doing that. I think you can accomplish a similar effect using a vocoder.
