Video Games Live Band Arrangement

They sound pretty typical of a lot of pieces for band, but that's actually a good thing in this case. I guess my expectations weren't very high to begin with, and they have a first-class arranger doing these. I like them better than the VGL versions.

edit: oh yeah, using a harp in a band arrangement is cheating, I mean, come on!

Hey guys look at this cool arrangement.

Okay, admittedly, it's for marching band so you're probably not interested. But I have to whore it out every chance I get, so maybe one day someone will actually play it. :-P

PS: I started redesigning my site and stopped halfway through. That's why it looks so crappy right now. So, uh, don't judge me too harshly! D: I'll get around to fixing it up all pretty once I'm done designing a couple other sites I'm working on.

I think it's cool that vgmusic is making its way into band, but what worries me is that, to be honest, there are so many more educational things that could be done with students.

At the same time, it could bring people into music from games...I don't know how I feel about this in general, really.

I wonder how much profit Video Games Live is making off of each copy sold.

Yeah, Alfred Music has been cashing in on VGL - it's true, I'm I talked to Tommy Tallarico about it during "Video Games Live" in Calgary and he said that he opened up the scores to Alfred Publishing for Junior and High School Music Programs and he said that VGL is getting no profit from it... just a note.

This arrangement is pretty good, it's a little bit "bandy", but not too bad at all! I think that 10 minutes is waaaaaaaaay too long, though, there isn't enough content to fill that much time.

The Level 2 "Halo Suite" released by Belwin Music is quite good for younger bands (probably 9 and 10) and a link is here: http://www.windbandmusic.com/?site=article&id=3vEW2zgJPBQ%3D

I did it earlier this year and my students really dug it.

Alfred also has a much more difficult version of Halo and it's pretty notey, but quite cool. The link for that is here: http://www.alfred-music.com/product_info.php?products_id=3274&osCsid=037e5cbf6ef968a3d03f3f5792794a28

I'm a music teacher, this is what I've learned... Also makes for a very teachable unit on video game music AND ESPECIALLY the History of Video Game Music... students dig the 8-bit era ;)
