Hey all. I host and produce a weekly radio show at the University of Maryland's radio station WMUC. The show (8-Bit Radio) is dedicated to playing video game music.

What I'm asking for are games to feature on my show. What are your favorite video game soundtracks? They can be mainstream or obscure, as long as they have good music! Just let me know what some of your favorite game soundtracks are and, if I find them and play them, I'll give you a shout out on the air. Please help me out by giving me the names of some games to play music from!

If you're limiting it to 8-bit, then the only soundtracks I can come up with are:

Mega Man 2

Mega Man 3

Zelda II (game wasn't great, but the Temple theme was)

Cheetahmen II

If you're expanding it to anything, then I have a few other ideas:

Albert Odyssey (Saturn) - really great; all live instruments

Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD) - mostly short themes, all good

Lunar: Eternal Blue (Sega CD, preferably) - favorite soundtrack in general

Tales of Phantasia (Super Famicom, Playstation, GBA)

Sonic CD (Sega CD, of course)

A few that a lot of other folks will probably mention anyway:

Chrono Trigger

Radical Dreamers

Final Fantasy X

Xenogears

Wild Arms 1-3

PS2 Shadows of the Colossus

PS2 Soul Nomad

PS2 Xenosaga 2 Movie Scenes only

PSX Final Fantasy Tactics

PSX Saga Frontier 2

NDS Subarashiki Kono Sekai

DC Shenmue

DC Soul Calibur 1

SNES Super Mario RPG

PC Civilization 4 (Baba Yetu is a must...)

Some games I haven't seen mentioned yet...

Master of Monsters (Genesis)

Alisia Dragoon (Genesis)

Thunder Force IV (Genesis)

Thunder Force III (Genesis)

Phantasy Star IV (Genesis)

Gauntlet IV (Genesis)

Castlevania: Bloodlines (Genesis)

Streets of Rage (Genesis)

The Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis)

Stellar Fire (Sega CD)

Soul Star (Sega CD)

Lords of Thunder (Sega CD)

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Saturn or PS1)

I could name a bunch of other soundtracks that have some great tunes in them, but those are the ones that came immediately to mind where most of the soundtrack is a great listen from start to finish.

It occurs to me that no one yet has mentioned:

Ecco the Dolphin (both Genesis and Sega CD--different soundtracks)

Ecco 2: Tides of Time (both Genesis and Sega CD--again, different soundtracks)

To me, these two games had the best soundtrack of any Sega CD game. It's all incredibly great ambient music that really got you into the scenery of each of the levels. And yeah, the Genesis and Sega CD soundtracks are completely different, since they were really trying to take advantage of the SCD's sound capabilities when they released it. KF

Omega Five and any of its arranged versions.

Metal Slug 2 and 3

Gradius 5

Eternal Sonata has some nice songs in there too.

Kirbys Dreamland 3 and Superstar.

Super Smash Bros Brawl. ( really large amount of songs from a broad selection of games in many genres. Bound to be something recognisable to most people listening, and if not they just plain rock)

Sonic1~Adventure, include Sonic Rush (1st one, second was gash music wise)

Deus Ex

Marvel Vs Capcom 2

Other than that things in Coops list cos he mentioned Thunder Force 4,Castlevania: Bloodlines and Shinobi 3. So the rest is bound to be good.
