EDIT: FINAL VERSION SUBMITTED

So there it is. Finalized (until it gets rejected... ). I've eliminated clipping (that I could find), and rebalanced/remixed the orchestral sections (new instruments). I love the dual cello's that replaced the general string section, they sound much more sincere.

Also added a guitar related bits and pieces, more subtle than anything else. Rerecorded the clean Schala part with a better-blending tone.

We'll find out in a few months. Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions!

EDIT: SECOND COMPLETE DRAFT

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. I think this is it. I think it's done. Just need to manage a few clipping issues and BAMMO. I think it is rocking.

EDIT: FIRST COMPLETE DRAFT

http://metalfrog.org/music/chronotrigger/ctbatt-firstdraft.mp3 Not happy with how it turned out. Loved how it began, but during its development it kind of became hindered by its own simplicity... probably going to restart it at some point.

EDIT:

NEW VERSION

http://metalfrog.org/music/chronotrigger/ctbattle-33.mp3

Minor tweaking done - extended it a bit (however the transfer near the end back into the main riff is absent, so overlook that). For some reason that I hadn't noticed before, the orchestral strings didn't mix down in the old version. They're here now.

Old:

This started out as a non-OC Remix, just a straight cover, but I've decided that I'll eventually work it so that it's not a straight cover.

First minute and twenty seconds is almost virtually complete, I don't think it can be much improved. After 1:20 is where the WIP-ness of it kicks in, as I will eventually extend it and get into the real meat of things.

Any opinions?

Wow. Pretty nice. I remember that last time I played Chrono Trigger I was wondering when would someone remix the battle music. I can't give you any technical advice because, well, I know near to naught about it, but I like it. It is has a strong, firm feeling, and it is pretty intense, something I love about music. I'll be looking forward to it.

Wow I'm glad someone is working on this mix, I'd always sop the battle just to listen to the song...

I always wondered why there were not a mix dedicated to this track, it's going really well, so far I like it. Looking foward to listen when it's complete!

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Yeah.. you caught me with the first 4 bars.

Sound really good man. Lovely mixing.

Really enjoyed at 0.58 when that part comes in. Feels so right.

The break at 1.20 feels fine. Was time for something breaking so to speak.

Dual guitars at 1.38 - love.

Can't wait for this to be posted.

Youre almost there mate!

I'm not much of a composer, so chances are you can ignore my opinion entirely, but I'll offer it nonetheless as that of a keen listener.

Listened through your first draft throughly (Roughly about 5 times), and honestly it sounded solid to me. I noticed a couple things, though, that either just didn't seem natural to me or bothered me:

The intro. The first few seconds are awesome, but when the song transitions at 0:06, it feels like it should be longer. Not by much, but perhaps to allow for a bit more build up.

Your transition at 1:44 was great, but then changing again at 1:48 it doesn't "feel" right. What you play during those four seconds just ends abruptly with no real change made. It just cuts into what's next in the middle of it, making it feel displaced to me.

At 2:46 when you cut into the song's ending, you abruptly end the guitar. This feels like what you did at 1:48, only not as bad. Perhaps let the guitar just fade out over time. Sure, this may extend the guitar along, but letting it fade into the background from, say, 2:46 to 2:49 may fix that. Your call, really. :)

Otherwise, this is a solid remix. I love it.

Sweet, hope this gets finished and submitted to OCRemix, cuz this is pretty cool. I'm biased though, cuz I love the original battle song, but this mix is really cool. I like the introduction of the Schala song in there, it fits in well.

9.8/10 :)
