Today I got an email from god knows where saying that Daniel Barras has released the final version of Ocarina of Time 2d and it provided me with links. I downloaded off one of the mirrors I was supplied with and I cant play the game because of some gay error, but I did play the debug mode or something like that, it was pretty gay. Has this happened to anyone else, or does anyone have news?

EDIT: SHIT if any of you downloaded from that link plz dont open it. At least thats what the guy said for me to do.

This is all very confusing

I think rabid fanboys did research on him and found in police records that no such car crash or incident existed. People concluded that since he was a teenager he couldnt deal with the pressure of doing the project alone and faked the story so the rabid fanboys wouldn't tear him up and he could stop. They found out anyway though and I think they took pretty extreme measures into trying to get him to restart the project.

Well I suppose my guess about that file was correct. Glad I didn't download it.

I downloaded it... but I'm somewhat reluctant to run the exe. I just dont want to find out this is some virus or something.

Brilliant move man. NOBODY OPEN THAT CRAP!!!!!

I sent a reply from whoever sent the email and he sent one back saying that Dampe was using his account to send these links out and told me not to download it in all caps. The thing is retarded anyway.

I guess dampe wants revenge

I've scanned it with AVG, its running fine, its safe, I had your 'Gay' error but a new icon appeared, I clicked that, now I'm playing.

I would like to add:

And its not a full version, there's just a house you can't go in, and four walls, unless I need to cut the bushes..

Not much to do. You just walk around throwing boomerangs and planting bombs. If you kill yourself the game freezes. Like I said, very gay.

Well I pressed T and my Tunic changed. I was cutting the hedges but they regenerated, and was trying to work out how to read the sign.. then found out how to cut it down. >_<

Well this is obviously a videogame of monumental proportions.

Does anyone know how hard it is/was to try and remake this..

Because it seems one of those things that might not be impossible. Just takes ages.

Well Methuselah had started it in 2003, its not done, and its 2008. Say he made it up to when link becomes an adult, which is more than I have evidence to say in the first place.

If he kept working on this, which i believe he is no longer, it will take another 8 years or so.

:-P

I got the same email. I thought it had something to do with the fact that I'm trying to recreate it, but I guess not. I compared the files inside the folder to a previous demo of his and they are exactly the same. I had a feeling, considering if it was him, he spelled his own name wrong in both the email and the readme file.

If you're interested in how my version is coming along, go here.

This is from a post I made at the yoyogames forums, I did not send out an email for the game, I am not dead (that rumor was about Dampe, not myself).

Hello everyone, nice to see you all again. Yes, it's actually me.. Daniel Barras, TRM, TheRealMethuselah, etc... ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

For those of you who received an email about a release of OoT2D, that was not me, MY email address is dbarras@gmail.com and I would never release the game via email, I'd release it via a forum or website.

Second, I received a comment on my YouTube page http://youtube.com/user/TheRealMethuselah from Leonsbuddydave, and I decided that given the few minutes I do have here (Yes, I'm in Iraq) to post on it.

just wanted to let you know that I was inspired by you. From what I saw, you obviously have incredible game design skill that I envy. I am trying to remake Ocarina of Time in 2D, and if you wanted to critique it, I would be honored. I have a forum topic about it here:

I'm glad that I inspired you, it's been a LONG and hard journey from March of 2003 till now, and I constantly tweak and enhance my engine, sprites, etc. I would like to give you some advice... ignore the criticism. It's something I had to learn to take.

I would also like to allow you to use my Temple of Time sprites, here's the complete room in LTTP style that I use, some people will criticize you for using it and say it's not OoTish enough, but I believe it stays with the spirit of LTTP and OoT.

As far as Quest Status, Equipment, Map, etc screens, I would suggest using a pixel-by-pixel approach instead of Beveling and Embossing in Photoshop.

You'll notice that I meticulously created each and every pixel on my map, and made sure that it was LTTPish when complete.

map.png

As well as taking the extra time to get the other screens "just right".

I would also suggest to LBD, use the Link to the Past sprite-based font, instead of the one you are using.

Map out each area FIRST before trying to just place it in-game. Once you have it the way you feel it works, then and only then should you put it in-play.

Those who know me, know that I am a stickler for coding practices, indentation, naming conventions, my code is ALWAYS well commented so that I can go back to where I left off. And ALWAYS, make sure you have multiple backup locations (Thumb Drive, Online, etc).

For those who want to know, I'm not releasing it while I'm here; for one, I don't have my files with me, and two it "ain't" perfect yet.

Daniel

And one more thing, whoever said I faked my death was a moron, I believe it was Dampe who got in the car crash and then people were emailing me, asking me if I was ok.

DO NOT OPEN THIS FILE

Hello folks, I posted this over at the forums of the guy the email was supposedly sent from (it wasn't actually sent from him), but I will post this here as well. Yes, the file is full of nasties.

Basically this was sent out to people that had previously had accounts on Dampe's forums - Dampe being the guy who was supposedly making the OOT2D that faked his own death. Dampe's website used to be hosted by the people at MonkeyDog, and the owner of that site is the email address that it was supposedly sent from. Whoever REALLY sent this clearly has a grudge against Monkeydog for some reason - the theory is it's Dampe sending it out to try and get at his old host.

Oot2Dv1.029.exe is a compiled autoit script that

- extracts to C:\Windows:

- thegame.exe

- bwraep.exe

- udpflood.exe

- tcpflood.exe

- extracts to its own directory zeldarun.exe which is the test level of the game

it then sets a registry key to launch thegame.exe on boot, and runs thegame.exe and zeldarun.exe

Thegame.exe is a compiled autoit script that

- installs to C:\Windows the file "invi.dll" which it uses to hide itself so it doesn't appear in the task manager

- starts an IRC client - hidden, again, which connects to channel #autoit on irc.freenode.net (port 6667) and reports in

- downloads a config file from the net and saves it as C:\windows\enc.ini

- downloads a file that tells the DOS tool what urls to hit, this it saves as C:\windows\urls.txt As far as I can see these are

http://xplodemods.freehostia.com/logos/Xplode.jpg

http://xplodemods.freehostia.com/logos/xbox%20360.jpg

http://xplodemods.freehostia.com/logos/Blue%20ROL.jpg

http://xplodemods.freehostia.com/logos/xbo...60%20repair.jpg

http://xplodemods.freehostia.com/logos/Xbox%20Logo.jpg

http://xplodemods.freehostia.com/logos/Wii.jpg

http://xplodemods.freehostia.com/logos/Xplode.jpg

http://xplodemods.freehostia.com/logos/PS2%20Logo.jpg

So basically its a botnet. At some point the person in control can go into that channel and tell it to start any of the DOS tools, download a new list of targets etc. So the burning question is, who did it?

Sadly I don't have an answer to that, although I can tell you that the config files are downloaded from

http://a-cksdj7.110mb.com/enc.ini which may be his website. It says

teamluminax.net is under construction!

check back for updates!

advertising

All this sounds impressive but it looks like it was cobbled together from script kiddie components. So yeah, if you have any of these files on your machines, please delete them, you wouldn't want to inadvertently become a part of his botnet.

OTHERWISE, DO NOT RUN THIS FILE - IT'S NASTY.

Also just to repeat, despite what it says, this has nothing to do with the guys at Monkeydog, whoever's sending this out is just trying to get them in trouble.
