Well, this is my setup, as soon as i graduate and work profesionally, i'll be able to upgrade everything (right know i'm a half time worker/college student).

I am just starting, i haven't made anything serious yet (shameful, i know), i'm just waiting to finish college. On the mean time, i'm studying music theory, Fl Studio stuff, and getting practice on the instruments you see there.

It's basically:

'91 Ibanez RG550 MIJ guitar

'92 Fender Jazz MIJ

Focusrite Scarlett 2i4

Yamaha HS50M

Samson Carbon 49

AKG K240 cans (bought them because everyone recommened them here)

Alot of people seem to be digging those Yamaha HS monitors.

Since i'm a noob, i know my opinion won't matter a lot, but yes, imho, they're great. I bought them because of the good reviews on the net, and because many friends on this kind of stuff only say wonders 'bout 'em. Of course there are a lot more better monitors, but much more expensive. These ones i think are pretty hard to beat in terms of value.

Guess I'll break the mystery and join the festivities. I cant resist good studio porn.

Nice and clean :)

also, i would say that the entry level yamaha monitors are probably the best you could get for the price point, of course i didnt buy them because i got a stupid good deal on KRK monitors.

I'm looking into some different monitors currently. I've been using wharfdales, but they are too coloured, not "reference" monitors.

The yamahas I hear good things about, but they are designed after the famous NS-10's, which from what I've read have never made great main monitors, only for checking for translation. I'm looking at Mackie, KRK, JBL...a whole bunch of different kinds.

Currently my nice pair of speakers are my JBL L112s. They arent "Reference monitors" but they are very transparent, and make a good second set for checking mixes.

I moved from the Rokit 6's to the Yamaha HS80m monitors and found it to be a good upgrade. They've very flat and are pretty easy to mix with. I liked the KRK monitors but I had a series of build quality issues that made me want to move over to Yamaha.

Flexstyle, I do have quite a bit of stuff in this little room. You're not even seeing the wall that's behind me in that picture. I have another desk with an iMac that I use for doing graphic design stuff. There's also a little CRT and a stack of classic consoles for gaming. It's a good room to spend hours in.

Just upgraded my monitors from a set of E-Mu PM5s to a set of Yamaha HS8s. SO PSYCHED.

Also been using a lil' iMac alongside everything to do things like multitracking and take-editing.

Current space. Really cramped, uncomfortable, and I have a roommate (really bad for personal reasons), and honestly, being able to fit my piano in here was a miracle. But the important part is I have everything.

Everything:

-Focusrite Scarlett 18i8

-Bose Companion 2 Series III Speakers (Don't have room for real ones)

-AKG k240 Headphones

-MXL-990 Condenser Microphone

-Casio Privia Pro PX-5S 88 key Digital Stage Piano

-Killer desktop (2011):

  • Core i7-2600
  • 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM
  • 240GB Kingston HyperX SATA III SSD
  • 640GB WD Caviar Black HDD
  • EVGA GTX 460 1GB

-Software:

  • FL Studio 11
  • Native Instruments Komplete 8
  • EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Gold Edition
  • Miroslav Philharmonik
  • ISW Celestia, Juggarnaut, Forest Frame Drums, Resonance: Emotional Mallets
  • MusicLab RealGuitar 3
  • 8Dio Steinway 1969 Legacy Grand, Orange Tree Samples CoreBass Pear
  • Miscellaneous Kontakt Libraries
  • Alchemy: Planet Earth Library
  • Various Free or Demo Synthesizers
  • Lots of oneshots, drumloops, soundscapes, etc.

I remember when I was a little kid (circa 2005) and I didn't own zilch. I borrowed Shariq's laptop and used the installed FruityLoops 6 to make really bad sound. I didn't even know what notes were at the time! How the sucky have risen. C:

Why so many inputs and outputs for such a small room? Could be real useful if you decide to do any drum mic stuff I guess. Seems like overkill for general production though.
