OCR00985 - Super Street Fighter II "Cammy by Night"

Everytime I listen to this song, I am at a loss for words because this song is just that good, in my opinion. As was previously mentioned, this seems like a more laid back version of "London Drizzle," which is, by NO means, a bad thing. I can never get enough Cammy ReMixes, and this just adds to the collection of great ones. Good job mv.

heh picked this one out of the WIP boards a while ago =P its a real solid mix, i thought, i havent given it a second listen yet, but will do that soon. just had to mention that this is actually our THIRD cammy mix, ryu7x "dancing in the sky" is of cammy's theme. (i cant believe u guys havent picked that out yet =P) heh ;)

ahhh i remember this now.. i guess this is mostly distinguished by that sax in the background with some nice improv runs. this is one of those chillll pieces that i love. just lay back and relax =)

Mh... I prefer McV's version better then this one... It sounded too... I dunno.. Bad?

That 'sax' sound, was extremely annoying first and foremost.. And just all together it wasn't what I was looking for. Sorry.

thanks for the mindblowing, elaborated criticism. i will work more on my tracks so that they don't sound "too... i dunno.. bad?". i will refrain to use the "sax sound, which is extremely annoying".

however i can understand that it's not what you were looking for, but i'm not really gonna complain about that :) happy browsing.

Hate to be the naysayer here. I guess it's just me but I couldn't listen to this for very long. I found the lead electronic sound clashed painfully in my ears with the sax a lot. I could have done completely without the synth sound.

conflicting opinions here, now someone doesn't like the synth but likes the sax.

i don't know what to tell you, but i'm glad this doesn't really affect the validity of the track. it's a matter of preference and samplekwak. thanks for commenting though, and i hope that my later remixes will convince you more.

im sick of whiners. this mix is awesome bro, good work. Its so good i forgot it was on...its like looped over in winamp like 5 times. Anyway the mixing is very clean, i hear good dsp and a balanced sound. Besides that the arrangement is very tight and keeps me interested. Ive always like street fighter music, but u made this cammy track come out in a different light, well done -bLiNd

"London Drizzle" has long been a favorite of mine and I must say that this track does an even better job of soothing my mind after a tough week(although London Drizzle is excellent listening when it rains and you're on a bus or tram going around the city). . . Thank you mv for making my day :D

I've looped it several times now and I can't seem to move on from it(that's a good thing. . .I'll have it on for a couple of hours at this rate). . .It has that nice little 'just chill' feel to it that I can't seem to describe accurately right now. . . granted, there are rare instances such as in the 1:40s or so that the synth and sax seem to clash rather than complement each other, but in any case, I think that's only 'cuz both of them are both trying to get your attention at the same time. . . Excellent work mv, and keep those mixes coming!!!

woo, i love that mix! only criticism is that maybe the beat is too quantized, its most noticable when there are two hits to a beat. but love the kind of 'weaving' of the chords and the sax. i love that legato synth sound!

and the sax is bloody fantastic! the way the little runs and riffs kind of are 'thrown off' - fantastic. and the little semitone trills, classic. what is the sax sound? is it a real sax? its absolutely fantastic - the variable 'breathiness' and the nice squeak in the high register - mmmm. what did you use to make this piece?

I've always like cammy music on the super street fighters. It was one of my favorites of all time. I'm glad people are doing remixes of it.

And for the song. It sounds like porno music. Yet it's still a well remix. And, i enjoyed it alot. Along with the other 2 that uses cammy's music.

Keep up the good work. Hopefully, more people will do more cammy music. heh.

This ones great. I personally prefer it to McV's version.

The overall Remix is great, however, I think the leading line should of been done with a saxaphone, rather than something synthesised.

I like it a lot though. Its not the first kinda thing you'd think of when you see Cammy's stage, so I think its made even better because of this :)

I like this remix. I'm not too familiar with Cammy's theme, COnsidering the last time I played this game was when I was still in Elementary or Jr. High-School. I like this style, nice and relaxed. OverClocked could use a few more mixes like this one. Nice job. I really like the Sax and Bass you used in this mix. I'm quite partial to the Saxophone. And the other wind instrument you used, I can't really determine what it is, but it's the first one that comes into play, I like it. All in all, I'd give this mix a 9/10 rating. Oh! Nevermind, I hear Piano. ^_^ 10/10 Man.

I don't see actually cammy's theme in this... Sort of. I see some of the harmony used in it, but that's about it. On the other hand, if you ignore that it has almost nothing to do with Cammy's theme, it's actually a great song.

Actually, man, I think you could easily pass this off as a Streets Of Rage based song, since it's in more that style than Street Fighter. At least that's what it reminded me of.

In fact, it'd probably be better passed of as a 'Vaguely based on' song... Hell, actually, I'd say that it sounds like a completely original song, vaguely inspired on cammy's song!

Anyhow, great work, and that sax upscaling thing reminds me of a stage in Alex Kidd in Shinobi world. Excellent stuff.

I will agree with you that it is excellent work, and I especially love the sax. It's got so many elements that I just love all thrown in together.

But I'll have to disagree with you on the "only vaguely sounding like cammy's theme" thing... it being one of my favorites from the street fighter series, I recognize the theme immediately (right in the baseline..). and then the melody comes in on that synth at around 00:50, I don't see how one could mistake it for anything other than Cammy's theme.

Porno music? I don't know of a single porn I've seen with music this nice. :)

Excellent, just excellent. Has a very thorough feeling without seeming "overworked" or forced. Cammy's theme adapts very well to this sort of lite jazz/pop arrangement ( I always liked this theme anyway). The tenor sax is astounding - if it's not real, I'd have to say that it's one of the most convincing synths I've heard. I would also like to know what you used to make this mix, mv.

OT: I also enjoyed your remix of Laura's Theme from SH2 (sorry, "Theme of Laura" is to awkward and Engrish-y for me ;) ).

thanks for all the comments.

i've used reason for this mix, as i have before for my parasite eve, final fantasy 11 and silent hill 2 remixes (not on this site). for those wondering about the sax, those are fills and thrills i got from a refill called "260dB : the drum and bass interface", i've spent a consequent amount of time trying to have most fit in and not conflicting with the tune too much.

protricity had me know that i should refrain from using such samples in the future so my other mixes won't likely have any sax in them, except if i buy a sax and actually learn how to play that ;) (since saxophones are some of those intruments that are hardly emu-able on comps)

well, i think the sax sounded very natural (this coming from someone who was in a jazz big band for 4 years). as long as it's not the main attraction (and so you're not completely focussed on it) it seeps in to your mind naturally. the squeaks on that sax and the way it was done made the 'breathing' sound very natural.

reason, eh? i shall have to check it out now that you can rewire it into logic. it wouldnt be stupid to use it simply as some intsruments to be controlled in logic, would it?

that would rather be extremely right specially if you're comfortable with logic, because reason's sequencer is a catastrophe. however, from what i heard you could only rewire 16 reason 'machines' into sonar, and much more in cubase, i do not know about logic though. it's ok anyway, since reason's reverb isn't so hot anyway.. you're better off treating your channels with VST reverbs or logic reverbs.

thanks about the comments :)
