Sample Request

Recommended Posts

I need a good jingle bell sound found and any Christmasy soundfonts anyone can dredge up if you all don't mind... Thanks in advance.

Scroll down a bit for the christmas sounds ('Celtic/Folk Sounds For Christmas' and 'Church Sounds for Xmas').

I'm searching for a pitch curving bass drum sound. Allot of Drum and Bass music seems to use it, some RNB aswell.

It has a "Bmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" like sound but the pitch changes (something like C2 to C1 in 4/4.)

Anyone know where/how I can obtain this sample or how its possibly done? I'm not using FL so thats out of the question.

Just create a sine bass with slow sine LFO.

Or, if your using FL, try the FL kick plugin. Personally, it annoys me because I can never get it to sound right, but maybe you will have some luck. I know it does that pitch shifting kick action, though.

I'm not using FL, to much of a hassle for me. Leave me to doing MOD/IT work in MPT, atleast I can abuse all its mighty powers without to many fiddling around. :)

EDIT

After being told to use a Sine Bass sound, I actually went searching for it in Google and it came up in the first link with many D&B soundfonts. Thanks for the help atleast. :)

Ok, it took me long enough to read through all of these posts and I have compiled a list of VSTi's, Soundfont websites and some sample sites mainly from this forum. I excluded drums and pads mainly bc everyone has their own taste. Pads are so easy to make and are EVERYWHERE anyway; drums are best found on P2P or from certain drum machines(sorry guys). For strings, check out orchestra links. If you want a sound that is really really really rediculously good sounding, chances are you'll be paying however, w/ some tweaking, all of this list can sound stellar. Some of the list items are simply progs or publisher names to google and research. Feel free to add to this list. It should cut down on some excessive questions by lazies as well as bickering which takes up some uneeded space. Please note, I have not seen all of these sites and some might not work. whooo.

uhhhhh... "Bass forum"? As in, a place where bass is discussed? We don't have anything like that as such, but if you want to ask a question about basses, go right ahead.

If you just want a nice bass, there are heaps around, and you can often make your own using a synth. I think you mentioned somewhere else that you are using FL, in which case I reccomend BooBass. Its a nice, solid bass, that rarely sounds out of place, and is great if you just want something to be there while you sort your other sounds out. Then you can come back and replace it later with another Bass if you want. Or layer with another, it's great for that too.

Yes, I usually do use the BooBass in FL, but I'm getting kinda tired of the same old thing and I'm looking for something else. So if you have any tips....

thanks

not gonna lie but boobass is terrible. TERRIBLE. get the natural studios Fender Jazz Bass (google natural studios, it's a british site), and then rape kvraudio for your synthbasses and stuff. personally, i like the sound of a good distorted rhodes down really low for my synth bass sounds, but that's preference. i use the fender jazz bass on everything, though - if you use a lot of velocity work with your music, then you'll find that the ns bass has so much touch and feel. it's nice. it's big, though - just to warn you if you're on a dialup like me.

I've never managed to find an orchestral percussion kit that quite manages the sound I'm looking for. I love listening to the percussion in scores by Harry Gregson-William, Steve Jablonsky, Klaus Badelt ... pretty much any composer who fits in the "Hans Zimmer"-style catagory. The driving bass drums/taikos/timpanis/etc are the real appeal to me (although the supplementary sticks/cymbals/electronic/etc sounds are great as well).

Does anyone know of a sample kit or something that provides this sort of sound?

http://www.sephfire.com/sector6.mp3

Here's a sample from Steve Jablonsky's work for "The Island." Note ...

-the snare-like hits around 0:18

-the beat the kicks in at 1:47

These are the kinds of sounds I've tried hardest to emulate but had little luck with. Any suggestions?

Erm... Does anyone know where I can find samples of Metroids?

Any other creatures from the Metroid series (especially from Metroid Prime) would help with the ambience of the song, too.

Anyone?

PS: I know, I'm a n00b. [insert flames against me here]

I've been messing with FL for a while, though, and I think it's about time I actually try to accomplish something,

so can anyone help me get started?

Google "roland orchestral percussion". That's the one I use. Hopefully you will find what you are looking for.

Distorted guitars are reaaly hard to sample. As such, there is nothing free out there (at least, that I am aware of) that will sound good for more than 2 notes.

Synth guitars faire a little better, but you will have to lay out some cash for a good one. I only know Slayer, which, under certain very specific circumstances, sometimes doesn't sound horrible. I believe Compyfox would be the person to ask about this. But you will have to shell out some cash.

  • 2 weeks later...
I'm having trouble locating isolated drumset sounds, such as a bass drum or hi-hat. I have found drumkit sample sets, but I can't seem to sequence those well in FL Studio. Is there a place where I can aquire free samples of these percussion sounds?

If you need individual drum soundfonts, you're out of luck. Although, locating individual drum samples (meaning in .wav or .mp3 format), Fruity Loops have some samples in Packs > RealDrumKits. Good luck!
