Are any of you guys doing National Novel Writing Month? (nanowrimo.org)

I'm afraid writing a 50,000 word book in a month will cost me all the spare time I have (and more) for November, so it looks like I'm out for this round. (Though I'm not much of a poet anyways...)

Oh, and congrats to SoulinEther. That was quite the work you did.

Two Sides to a Coin

Figuring that I am as good as dead,

Into my pocket this hand quickly sped.

The grip in my grasp is surprisingly cold,

Only one thing to myself have I told,

"I will not go down without a fight,

Not with death so close in sight."

I can hear the men getting excited all around,

Harder still my heart does pound,

But my thoughts shifted, it gave me the chills,

Fear transforms into a lust to kill.

I gaze unflinchingly upon my mark,

Now swifter than ever my body embarks.

Their fates sealed, the conclusion comes clear.

The tables had turned, evidenced through their fear.

Ecstasy scribbled all over my face,

Yet the words came at so calm of a pace,

"No mercy at all... I will enjoy your deaths,"

My prey stood frozen, holding their breaths.

This drive, this passion, it belongs not to me,

But the blade’s in my hand, it’s plain to see.

This body acts before the thoughts could flood,

And before I knew it, I was bathed in their blood.

He cackles now, as I gasp inside.

If that is me, I must decide.

He laughs at them with such frightful glee,

And so I refuse that that could be me.

The thrills of the night had taken their toll,

Unconscious my body; fragmented my soul.

Memories hazy, but not quite forgotten,

The stench of corpses, not yet rotten.

As I awaken, realized is my fear,

With the carnage surrounding me, making everything clear.

Now with nowhere to turn, my revenge I will take,

To repent for sins I must not again make.

here's my submission just a little one:

Poets

Someone once dared me to explain Poets and Poetry,

And I simply replied that it was a reflection of me-

For I think that people are blind to the very things they see

And in my words they can discover what I aspire to be-

I can take the time to craft them a picture,

Build them a city, experience an adventure -

For there's a certain power in trying to relate

my causal experiences in regards to my fate-

So-

They now know my thoughts, what I choose to pen

A carefully constructed facade, in a truthful, youthful blend

Open hearts given a start will break apart into words of art,

And all these beautiful things, will end.

However, the end doesn't mean that there won't be a beginning,

There's no falsehood in wonder, questioning isn't sinning.

Poets are the explorers, the builders with words,

They explore the condition, through adjectives and verbs-

They give chase to the worlds flights of fancy,

They are the ones who dream of romancing -

But why are we so often, not heard?

I wish I could take part in it. As it stands, my design project leaves me with barely enough time to sleep at night, let alone write. I hope to do some poetry for this month during Thanksgiving Break, though.

Wrote it for both a class and this. Not that it has to do with anything, it's about an ex of mine. Also, if you get the chance to read the memoir Loose Girl by Kerry Cohen, you'll understand what kind of person she is.

To be Broken

Love me. Love me, love completely.

Kiss me, kiss me. Kiss more deeply.

Attend! Will my hands assist?

Feel me, give me another kiss.

Interested? Then my shirt leaves too!

Want a go? First some rules for you:

Look into my eyes, call me by her name.

Say you love me, pretend no shame

comes from what you’re doing to me.

Pretend that you’re in ecstasy.

I’ll fake it if you do it wrong,

just fill me up, make me strong.

I’ll do all that you want me to,

just fuck me. FUCK ME! Like you do

that spoiled brat who has you all

to herself while I’m here on call.

No, wait. I’m on your cock. You like?

You can have this every night

as long as you say you love me

and pretend to care for me.

I’m just a silly selfish whore

inside my head. Just give me more

until I feel like you mean it.

Do it, more. Please help me forget.

Ah, I love senior design. It makes me forget the rest of the world exists, including this thread. :?

Well, now that I'm actually back again, time to get rolling on another voting phase! We have three entries this time around, so I'm hoping I get at least 6 votes from people! *glare*

Two Sides to a Coin by TCSyd

Poets by Random Hajile

To be Broken by TheHands

Voters, place your votes... now!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, you have until the end of the month to vote! But don't delay, or else you'll forget and I'll be very upset!

Well, I read the rules of this thing and perhaps its the slight amount of alcohol in my system, but I dont think I understood something fully...It mentioned every other month there being a competition, but there is still time left in the month of december, yet it seems you are not able to submit anymore. I dont get it, but im going to put up my poem anyway, and if its too late, then I will submit it again at a future time once I understand what is going on hehe. If nothing else, I hope its enjoyed all the same and hope to have it apart of a competition at one point or another if not this one. Adieu.

Hopeful Presence

When I look into your eyes,

I can feel a deep and lonely sorrow,

When I hold you in my arms,

I feel the wish for better tomorrows,

The situation doesnt matter,

In the end its up to you,

Will you stay and hold onto the past,

Or will you turn and start anew,

Every moment inbetween,

The heartaches and the tears,

Are precious moments to be had,

Live them peaceful, without fears,

Someday youll come to realize,

This moment is always here,

Why relive pains from yesterday,

When now you can find cheer.

Trieason, the competitions begin every other month; each one spans the better part of two months when you take into account both the submission and the voting stages. Submissions run during the first month, voting during the second. I'll let you submit that poem in the next Freeform/Poetry (Freeform starts in January, Poetry in May) competition if you'd like.

Speaking of voting, you've got the rest of today and tomorrow to vote! I'm NOT extending the voting period if I can help it, so I want to see more votes!

Ahh, that is perfectly fine. Thanks for the clarification, and I will do my part to be ready to submit during the appropriate time periods. Until then, adieu.

Edit: ummmm....is there an appropriate way to vote? or do I just say it here? Just incase, I vote for "poets". If there is a more discreet way of voting I apologize in advance.

Email your votes to HalcyonSpirit. You have 3 points to play with and distribute as you see fit, it's a pretty cool system. Check it out in the first two posts of the thread.
