Musical Obscurities

I figured I'd make a thread about very obscure music, so that we can all hear some. I'm talking about the kind of music that there is good chance that you would likely never hear or have heard if you were somebody else. Oh yeah, and you should consider it be worth hearing as well, and, preferably, provide a link and/or description.

Anyhow, I'll start things off with some obscure music from the also obscure movie, "Killer Klowns from Outer Space."

This track is pretty good:

But I really wish there were more to this one:

Obscure is a very subjective word.. I can see people just posting their favorite stuff in here again.

"No, I swear, this isn't like normal hip hop, this guy is more g than any of those other posers"

That said, I'll post a track that a friend of mine made. Although it doesn't feel too different to me since I listen to similar stuff all the time, I think the majority here will find that it isn't what one would call normal.

Good stuff man, thanks for posting it. Tell you friend to keep it up.

I wouldn't call Ratatat obscure... they're pretty popular as indie electronic artists, constantly being mentioned/featured in magazines like Remix. I also think they're extremely overrated and could name 25 people on OCR that are more talented and interesting.

Yeah, I have to agree that they aren't very obscure, but they are worth listening too. Also, links to particular songs are always nice.

Also, if something isn't completely obscure that's OK, but it'd be good if most of us haven't heard it.

Here's a band I probably would have never heard of if the singer wasn't a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend: The Disengagement.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oruz2C7uSY (it's a live acoustic performance; the studio version's on their myspace.)

They're a 4-piece rock band from Newfoundland, currently based out of Antigonish, NS. To borrow a quote from their myspace: "Their music has been described as densely textured, lyrically surrealistic "intelligent rock" and encompasses several genres including hard rock, folk, progressive rock and 60s guitar pop."

Their debut self-titled album is out now, and their next album should be out early next year.

And if you enjoy that, check out a few of their side projects: Greg, the drummer, plays in a dnb / electronic / jam band, and Lanny, the vocalist / guitarist has done a fair bit of solo work, including a free ep. (He also contributed to a VGM compilation, NES Buzz, but nearly all evidence of that CD has vanished from the internet; all I can find are broken links to one of the songs.)

I would call ratatat obscure because there exist a large number of people who haven't heard their music

and I wholeheartedly disagree with your second opinion, except for the bit about ocremixers

everyone

plz

listen to more ratatat

for your health

My music taste doesn't really align with many others. I could probably post half of all the music I listen to and it would all be fitting.

that video reminded me of this band that you probably have never heard of: suicide commando

I guess the genre is...helltronica? Industrial? Eh, the effect on his voice makes me want to rofl and be terrified at the same time.

...you could say that of most industrial bands, though...

Also: go listen to VNV Nation. It's a futurepop band, has tons of albums, and was what got me into electronica in the first place.

They have a very distinct sound - it's not quite trance, not quite pop - it's very much a blend of everything.

I've heard of both, but I haven't listened to a whole lot of it. Of the Suicide Commando that I've listened to, it appears to be hit or miss for me. VNV Nation is about the same from what I've heard.

I listen to more Tactical Sekt, Aslan Faction, Psyclon Nine, Life Cried, and Dawn of Ashes because generally I like everything I hear.

The genre is called Dark EBM, Dark Electro, Hellektro, Aggrotech, and probably others. Imply darkness and electronica, and it's probably going to fit.

Here's what I'm listening to now. It probably fits both with those genres and with this thread.

The Brawl version has less boom. Makes me sad.

Lately I've considered obscure music as, "music that you would NEVER hear on the radio"...

halloween music.

That said the halloween one just made me want to bring out something a bit more lively, despite my love for classical stuff.

OR THIS, WHICH BOTH FRUSTRATES ME and sometimes saddens me how restrictive radio can be if actually paid attention to...

Sometimes find myself being thankful in finding the album...

---

Yes I'm quite aware that most posters may recognize the origins of the tracks, however considering who the performers are, gives the tracks a new flair to my ears that the originals are enjoyable enough as they are to begin with.

However rather than simply moan and groan I'd rather just spread the wealth of content. Already gave some coworkers who I managed to piqeu their interest some games. Now I just play the waiting game....

TL;DR... nothing is truly obscure these days, just either forgotten or smothered away by the easily accessable content... Unintentionally or not.
