A number of changes to the UI, but those pale in comparison to implementations of CSS3 and HTML5. CSS3 has the interesting property of allowing objects to move across the screen, uprooting Flash as the pretty much undisputed web technology for doing so. If you download the beta yourself, you can see it in action here. HTML5 also offers native support for multimedia (video, audio) while finally deprecating old useless tags (<b>, <i>, <frame>, etc.). I can't wait to delve into crafting some new pages with some of this stuff. Perhaps some of the crazy new CSS stylings will eventually make their way into OCR... any ideas, Dave? Avolii Posted March 1, 2009 Share Posted March 1, 2009 Just installed it. Oddly, it imported the few IE bookmarks, but not the FF ones. There's a bite in the ass. Also, looking over the plugins, seriously.... there's ones you have to pay for? No thanks. I also have my Start bar to auto hide, which Safari likes to not show by being on top all the time in fullscreen. Other then that, I do enjoy it. Will it replace FF? Not yet for me. From what I understand the algorithm for throwing up pages is slightly different. IIRC, Chrome will browse your recent history, which Safari 4 does as well, but the latter also takes page visit frequency into account. Use Safari! Show your visiting friends your favorite porn sites every time you open a new tab, without even telling Safari you want to! "Every time you open a new tab, you'll see a visual sampling of your most visited sites, most used search engines, and recently bookmarked pages and closed tabs." SoulinEther Posted March 3, 2009 Share Posted March 3, 2009 What I mean is.. if they've implemented the support of CSS3 into Webkit, which is LGPL'd, it's likely to be seen in other browsers that are based off webkit - Chrome and Konqueror, namely. but i'm sadly too lazy to google to find out more info edit: wait, webkit was forked off KHTML, so it's unlikely konqueror will see css3 unless the developers decide to switch to webkit or somethin. I'm looking forward to testing CSS3 stuff. I won't be using it in my developing though, since cross-browser compliance is still a virtue of mine. But maybe I'll add some user agent checks, and give safari 4-users some easter eggs... That's why this is still a beta. None of the stuff Apple's implemented is guaranteed to see the light of day, though personally I think it has a very good shot. You may've already known, but Firefox 3.1 is going to include support for much of these standards. Just gotta wait for it to get past the beta stage...
