There's a lot of generic crap in there but there are some really unique ones that haven't been mentioned yet: Stormwarrior- They seem very typical at first, but these damn songs will get stuck in your head! Sabaton- Really good arrangements and plenty of skill mixed with a very unique almost growling type singer. Serenity- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQp0q4jASZw Straight up generic singer, but the arrangements are excellent. Plus they do sometimes switch up vocal between standard singing and growling/screaming. Liquid Tension Experiment- Not really power metal, but it's pretty much Dream Theater without the whiny singing. Easily some of the most enjoyable truly progressive metal out right now. I should have known better than to fudge on the band names in a Metal thread. Metal fans never let that shit slide Helloween's I want out was good stuff, but Gamma Ray's live cover was more to my liking. Hammerfall also covered it with Kai and Joacim trading off vocals, and it too is quite good. I also prefer Gamma Ray's live cover of Victim of Fate to the Helloween Original. Just sayin'. Also, if you're looking for great musical skills, try Eagle Fly Free, there's some pretty damn solos in this one, especially Markus Gosskopf's bass tapping solo. They are a bit like Nightwish, but in my opinion better. I saw them a few years ago in Charlotte when they opened for Symphony X and they were pretty awesome. They remind me of Slipknot in that they mash up heavy songs with screaming lyrics with melodic songs with clear and interesting lyrics. Demon Hunter has more melodic aspects than Slipknot does though. Three Days Grace: not completely metal but pretty heavy 10 Years: good lyrics and even better melodies Disturbed: can't remember if anyone mentioned them yet Breaking Benjamin: not really metal but good Nightwish: someone mentioned Epica earlier and both bands are goth rock/metal Scars of Life: only one album was released but great stuff Seether: another rock/metal borderline group Drowning Pool: haven't listened to all that much lately Fear Factory: a few good songs Roadrunner United: on the heavy side, "The End" is a good track Sanctity: starting to really get into these guys Saliva: lighter, more melodic metal/rock I think everyone else mentioned most of the good bands (Kamelot, Iced Earth, etc) Cronos. Jester Race Medley For those who haven't heard older In Flames, either listen to this, or go youtube some Jester Race tracks. So good. I also did one for Children of Bodom, with an intro by Arch Enemy (I think). I had a limited selection of CoB songs for this, wish I had Needled 24/7 in there too.
