My break from DJing is over. You all should know the drill by now. But if not, here's some progressive and trance harmonically mixed for your listening pleasure. If it's not your thing, pass it along to someone who might like it! Just head over to my site, look around, and navigate yourself to the DJing section up top.

Edit: I'm now encoding all sets from this point on to v0 VBR settings which may or may not mess with time settings if you scour through the mp3 on media players such as Winamp. The below tracklists ARE correct... just your media player might not think so because of the VBR settings.

Just finished listening to all three. I'm now listening to the second again.

It is not suffice to say that this set is awesome. It's better than that. Now, I'm no expert music person, so what I say is as a casual listener, but this set is easily one of my favorites. The production sounds good, the transitions are smooth yet distinct, and the songs picked for each part mix with each other very, very well.

I think parts 1 and 2 are my favorites, but 3 is definitely right up there with them in quality. This set, for much of the second and third parts, feels very... well, chill. You can nod your head to the beat for them and just relax. This is more so with the third, but I was doing it with the second as well. The second also has parts that start off chill and then really make me want to get up and dance. Which is an urge I have no incentive to fight! Part 1 is more pumping that the other two, being the progressive mix. I was wanting to dance through most of it. It has some more chilled parts too inbetween to break things up a bit, and it works so well.

One of the things I love about G-T's mixes is that, despite being an hour long each, none ever feels like it's dragging on. I've listened to quite a few mixes with this kind of length and halfway through them I'm like "okay, when's it gonna end?" I never get like that with these, and the latest three do not disappoint.

Naturally, all three are great for driving. I'm going to be adding these to my iPod as soon as I can. The turntable is not enough, indeed.

EDIT: Also, I want to add that it seems like, in most of the mixes, including these, I love the opening songs the most.

I am booking you for MAGFest... Sending the email now.

Real quick: I was on this email thread, and to cut down on confusion / mis-communication / drama, it's worth noting that no acts have been confirmed for Magfest9 yet and won't be for a long while. Unless an act has received an email from me directly about playing Magfest, then it hasn't been confirmed. I'm always open for suggestions / feedback - dom at magfest dot org - but official communicaton about confirming music acts at Magfest comes from me via email, so there is no confusion about it.

I'm listening to the first set right now. Fucking awesome man.

Can you explain some terminology for me GT?

How do you classify Progressive, Trance, and Uplifting?

What do these terms mean?

I'm kinda loosely throwing out terms here but...

Progressive refers to a style of music that builds upon itself slowly over time... as a song plays, elements are slowly and subtly added over the ones currently playing... the song starts out sounding one way and comes out something very different by the end.

Trance refers to the the current trance genre which many don't really consider to be trance at all. However trance typically refers to electronic music often characterized by driving basslines, hypnotic and infectious melodies/hooks, sweeping filter effects, gating effects, sometimes ethereal vocals, etc. People often presume writing trance is easy but it's difficult to write an overly repeating melody that doesn't suck huge amounts of balls. Trance originated from house, techno, and minimalism (maybe a few other genres). Late 90s / very early 2000s trance often incorporated melodies that were inspired by classical music as well.

As for uplifting... that's just one of the subgenre's of trance. Uplifting trance is trance music with melodies generally aimed at making one feel good, often through melodic emotional and euphoric highs in the breakdown. Breakdowns are often long and drawn out and nowadays sound like it was sampled from an epic orchestral movie soundtrack. The overly epic uplifting trance tracks are often written in Major key. Most trance (and electronic dance music in general) is written in minor.

Maybe that clears things up?
